I ordered a cassette extender with no issues.

Yeah the uber ones are good, I’ve had the sintered in for about three or so winter months and they’re still fine. As good as anything else I’ve used. Plus you don’t have to contribute towards any superstar profits

A local shop said a test bike is available from next weekend, think I’ll give one a try

Yeah I’ve felt the weight of a frame and it was a bit porky but that doesn’t really bother me. Its going to be a bike for races and uplift day (holidays). I know beauty is in the eye of the beholder but I don’t think its the beat looking bike in the world…… Every review I’ve read has been glowing though! Other one I was looking at was the new transition patrol.

Stinkyboy, did you get the frame and forks? Where from?

I’ve got an Astra with the same engine, 80k miles had it since it had 30k. All I’ve had to do to it is one egr valve that I got for £80 and fitted myself. Needs a timing belt now but that’s only £200 from the Vauxhall dealer. Been loads cheaper to run than the Octavia I had before that needed clutch, flywheel etc at £900 after only 30k miles. Make of this what you will

Yep, going to give some more Enduro races a go this year so getting the associated parts together as we speak, just need the frame now, whenever it turns up….

Just out of interest how much was it?

I think your right to discount ss. I’ve had a few products from some have failed, inc a rear hub and some have not. The reason not to buy ss is that if anything goes wrong there is zero back up. FWIW I had AC on my 29er and thought them to be excellent, I only changed for some carbon rim bling

Had an awesome year too, hope everyone has too, and if not next year is everything they hope for :)

I’ve ordered a frame of this, delivery was Oct. Shouldn’t be too steep angle wise, or at least I’m hoping not as its not what the stats suggested…..

Specialized butcher/purgatory for me, and to give a quick analogy of grip 26 vs 29 I used to hate ardents in 26, found them lethal at best but the 29er I got came with them and I was amazed at the difference.

Absolutely lovely that, if I didnt have my fireline a sherpa would be very high on the list. Ive got some 350’s for my new enduro bike, straight pull ones on lightbycle rims, stunningly light very impressed with them.

I’m going to be going out with soon, based in Sunderland and looking for more convenient riding. Went out with them a couple of times years ago before moving to north west, memory of the local stuff is that it was decent

Its not just route advice I was after, also looking for people to ride with. Not one for going out on my own, no one to talk too

Not particularly looking for extreme tech (luckily) more a way of getting out conveniently during the week

Matt mate I’ll be in touch, I’ve been in Sunderland about 10 months now but I’m getting sick of mid week night ride to hamsterley, too much faff and back too late for mid week

Bringing this thread back from the dead, my shift patterns have changed so I now finish at normal times (5pm). Anyone fancy showing me some local routes around Sunderland?

    neil853

Well I’ve just put an order in too, shifting was woeful with cassette extender on to the extent I took it off after one ride. Hope this solves the issue

I must admit I’ve just gone for the Spesh butcher/purgatory combo in 650b

You can stew but its a bit of a ball ache, could you get a couple of rack second hand maybe? Be easier having two racks than swapping out adaptors all the time

There are better/more tech areas to ride but with the requirements you have I really think les gets and morzine would be ideal. You’ve also got Chamonix not too far away too if you have the car.

For the record I really like my Fireline, in fact that’s a massive understatement as it blew me away the first time I rode it. I cant compare to the other bikes named mind. I had every intention of putting a 140mm pike on, and a friend on here Gee76 has one on his but after 6/8 months of riding a 120mm pike and the fact I’ve sunk cash into a 650b Enduro bike has meant I’m happy to keep them on.

I’ve gone for a KTM Lycan 271 LT . 160mm travel 650b Enduro frame, all the bits are here just waiting for the rims and frame

I think that looks really nice, if my KTM doesn’t work out, I’ll look at one of these!

I have a Titus Fireline that suits that type of bill, but out of the ones you’ve mentioned I’d pick the sherpa. Really does look a nice bike and I like the guys behind the co

I’ve got 3k Matt 35mm 29er version, and a 650b pair on the way in 3k gloss, went for the gloss to try and make them a bit more scratch resistant. Love mine, really pleased with them.

This is good advice ^ I know the area well too, used to live in Preston and coppull and most of us used to ride hard tails when we rode there during the week, however some of the lads did ride 140/150mm travel bikes too. What I would say is there’s lots of riding fairly local (lakes/peaks/dales) that a bike like you’ve mentioned would be great for. My bit of advice would be don’t get something too similar to what you’ve already got (unless you’re selling it?) as you want to have genuinely different options. I’ve got a 29er trail hardtail, which I love and I’ve now plumbed for a 160mm travel KTM so I have different bikes for different jobs.

Lots of good shops nearby, pick one and get them ridden. I used to ride gisburn a lot too, so when i borrowed one I’d use it as a test track and compare like with like.

I built my 29er wheelset with some pro2’s and dt revolution for less than £500. You’ve just got to be smart buying the bits and pieces

I’ve been running my LB 29er 35mm for around four months, couple of marks but nothing major. Rimmed the back rim a few times and nothing. However I ran crests for 12 months so I’m not exactly hard on rims. But mine worked out less than £140 inc everything. Like nortwind said though, plenty of people have used the crash replacement thing, even when it wasn’t really justified. Just ordered some 650b ones for my new KTM Enduro bike

They’re not bad, the mounting system is brilliant and the button on the back is fiddly but in all honesty the quality really isn’t bad. I liked mine but didn’t in equal measures

They can be temperamental when you have three bikes on, you really have to pay attention when fitting three on. Kind of luckily I have a 29er now which means mines out of sync. I used some cut up pipe insulation and a zip tie. Not ideal but work brilliantly. Otherwise I really like the rack, doesn’t smash the fuel economy to bits like my 591’s did and means I can go a bit quicker on motorways (was always too tight to travel at 80 as the car was ready 28mpg

I would consider Chinese, I’ve got two sets of light bicycle ones and the quality is superb. You get to chose a hub of your choice, I’ve got a set of pro II’s and a set of DT and both I got for reasonable money off ebay and off here. I haven’t ever totted them up but I would say both sets cost me less than £500 a pair, although I do have a brother in law I owe a favour to for building them…..

I’ve tried it and found it rubbish, doesn’t last long at all. Tried all sorts but always got back to finish line wet and dry with regular cleaning
