Give the guy a break man  , mudguards (majority) will come off when he goes off road I presume. With the different wheels and tyres I bet it looks very night

I was faced with the same issue, I have a full 9 speed XTR drivetrain which is only 6 months or so old. As much as I would love to go for the new clutch mech its just not worth spending £300-£400 on replacing the bits yet.

I’m happy with the 1×9 right now, i’ll replace the 9spd bits maybe next spring/summer.

Can recomend the MRP mini G2, very good, quiet, very little rubbing.

A very interesting and encouraging thread. I have been thinking this for some time. The bottom line is that xc racing is not seen as ‘cool’. People want to go out and buy ‘enduro’ bikes, body armour and full face helmets and cycle around a trail centre. All this withgout being competitive ofcourse

Racing breeds inovation, without it the boundaries just wouldn’t be pushed. Training for an event is IMO a very noble thing as it pushes you to be better than you were, and for me that splills into my life outside of cycling, it becomes an attitude thing. Maybe its the fear of failure, but as dissappointing as that is, when thigs go well, and you get a positive result, there’s nothing like it.

A mate of mine has a bike shop in Knaphill, switchback bikes, might be worth a look :)

They do Giant and to be honest I’d be looking at an Anthem or Trance, probably Anthem.

I’ve lost just shy of two stone. But this has gone hand in hand with a diest change of avoiding eating so much pasta and bread. I still eat them but only once or twice a week (instead of five or six like it was before).

I didn’t jump into running the distance or the amount i’m running now. I started off running three times a week fior 10 minutes, because that’s all I could physically do.

It’s got to the stage now where I feel odd if I don’t get out for a run, anybody think thats a bit weird/sad?

I started running four or five months ago now as a way of filling time in during the week. Never ran before, always been overweight and found it extremely hard. But through increasing the duration of the run steadily I’ve now got to a stage where I run four to five times a week of which I run 10k three times! I never thought i’d be doing this. But now I enjoy it, the job has been quite stressful recently and running has been a great way of dealing with it. My time for 10k is now 42:02 which I was pretty pleased with. It will never replace weekend mountain biking but its been a great way to loose weight.

I’ve had the same issue with my Blur LTc, I tried shortening the chain and fitting a short cage mech, didn’t help at all. Luckily I can fit a BB mount chain guide (fitting a MRP G2 this weekend).

Take a look at the new XTR trail mech, I looked at one up close at the Dalby WC and looks like it would work, bounced it around and chain slap was definately reduced. Not cheap though…..

I’m intereste in this as I too want to take some weight off my bike. I’m currently running ProII’s on 819’s and when I take the wheels off they feel heavy, not sure of exact weight.

I went for 819’s as they were tubeless ready and would stand up to abuse, but my riding has changed over the last couple of years and I just don’t ride as aggressively as I used too. But I need a 15mm compatible wheels set, do the A2z’s come in 15mm, if not what else for a sub 1500g wheelset?

    I’ll add my two-peneth worth.

For the record I used to have roof mounted carriers and now I have a thule tow bar mounted rack.

The roof mounted carriers were quicker to put on and off, just lift them up and a couple of clicks and they’re on and out of the way. The tow bar mounted one takes a little more care and attention.

There’s also the boot thing. My tow bar rack does have the tilt facility but its still not as easy as not having them there at all.

The fuel economy thing is a problem with roof mounted carriers though, well I say problem more of an issue. At the end of the day if you’re going out with a few mates then you share the fuel costs anyway. My last car (diesel Skoda Oct) did approx 50mpg combined, with the roof mounted carriers the car did 40mpg, still not bad. Tpw bar rack I haven’t noticed any difference.

With my tow bar rack i’ve noticed that the bikes get covered in road muck, something which the roof racks didn’t suffer from, not good if you don’t rinse or wash them when you get back.

In summation I probably prefer roof mounted carriers, but to be honest they’re both good and have there plus and bad points.

litterally tears in my eyes over this story. Really puts things into perspective reading how someone/people can display all the positive attributes of the human race.

I echo what many have said, well done to you and all who have contributed, well done.

Has anybody seen kill bill 2? awesome dialoge at the end of that on this very subject, however I disagree. I think its batman, he’s a human trying to be a super hero, the rest are genetically different, whether thats from being genetically modified (spiderman) of being like that from birth (superman). Yeah we’ve not had this discussion in the office before………

In my experience no, in fact for a little while (until they bedded in) they were really quite sticky and needed fork juice) once they were bedded in they seemed good though
