I had the same choice and went for the race, but then again I hardly ever clip out. I don’t notice any lack of support.

The Ransom is a relatively plush bike, I would think it’ll be fine for the smaller/lighter rider. I rode mine for the MM 24 hr events, the alps and other xc events. Depends on price though, they don’t command a lot……

is it the carbon one? If it is then it’ll be a much more usable weight. The alloy one is far from light.

I had a carbon one for three years, only reason I changed it as I wante a lighter/shorter travel bike. Very capable bike IMO

You’ll be fine, the slight disadvantage when climbing will be more than made up for with all the decending. I’ll be looking for a cheap pair of 36/lyrics when I head to the Alps this summer with my LTc

Seriously, stuff like that is for the experts. These shocks run at huge pressure’s and they’re running essentially, between your legs, do you really want it exploding?????

I must admit it took me about one ride to get used to the SRAM on my CX bike, but bearing in mind i’ve done thousands of miles with it now I have to say I think it’s fantastic. It isn’t as smooth as say 105 or the Ultegra equivilent but It’s massively reliable, even in muddy conditions (hence CX bike). Very quick downshift and light upshift. I wouldn’t say it’s better than shimano, but its at least as good, surely that’s enough?!

here’s a post I made to get info.

    http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/blur-ltnomad-help-chain-guide

I didn’t mess about with just a top guide I wanted a chain guide which I knew the chain would never come off with. I went for a MRP Mini G2 SL. Awesome little thing and the chain has always stayed on, no noise, no filing just fit straight on.

I’ll post a pic up of mine in a sec

probably because the subject quite clearly states TOWNS

sorry, I thought manchester was made up a collection of small towns ;)

Can’t believe nobody has said Manchester. You can live on the outskirts and still be able to get the tram in for nights out, then you’ve got North Wales, the Lakes, the Peak, the Pennines and the Yorkshire Dales within easy reach.

I love mine to bits, it’s my go to bike most of the time, especially during the week when it’s shitty. Only now after a couple of years am I using it more off road.

Its quite a mad topic this. in the two places I lived in recently the first one, a two bed flat was £35 a month which I thought was ridiculous, I then moved to a two bed terraced house with a HUGE bath and it was only £16 a month, don’t get it. I realise they work on average meter readings for flats but surely that can’t be right? In a shared house now so no idea.

I run 4-5 times a week now and mountain bike once. Running is far harder for me but then again I’m still getting to grips with how to moderate my heart rate and effort while running, in other words when I run I run flat out.

But what I do know is that when I run 10k it feels like i’ve done a 50k on the bike!

    ditch the pedals,
    the double ring
    the horrid red hoses
    the horrid red lock on
the lack of front/rear wheel consistancy
    the cheap seatpost
    the cheap cassette

unless you’re going for the anti pimp look then you’re all good

Unbelieveable, your bike must be amazing……

I sent back a Gobi saddle because (in my eyes) it was drastically over the stated weight, but then i’m quite anal about these things :)

by the way that new ‘blue’ decent is unbelievably good. In fact the blue is a good/fun trail full stop.

I like Glentress, it was the first trail centre I visited all those years ago and still may favourite. I prefer the black to the red, but they’re both good. The inners one is really good too and a step up technically. The inners one is effectively one climb one decent, but a good climb and an excellent decent.

Did the red in the dark a couple of months ago that was amazing!

Good facilities (here we go…..) friendly local people who are very ‘switched on’ to mountain bike tourism and to top it off its even a decent night out in Peebles on a weekend!

They do look a bit stupid, though

This is true however, don’t look so bad on a road bike/CX ride but do look a bit weird on an mtb…

I have both, some shimano winter boots and a pair of MT500 over shoes. The overshoes keep my feet much warmer and probably drier, but they are a bit of a faff getting them on and off. I too don’t do much/any walking so the walking comment doesn’t affect me much, only time will be infrequent bits in the Lakes.

Definite (overshoe) plus point is keeping shoes clean/dry on multi-day rides.
