Happens all the time, quite a few shops I’ve been in have been like that. Still, it only makes the good shops stand out even more.

none are anything but excellent but depends on so many things. Go and demo them and see how you get on, it’s the only way you’ll truly be able to make your mind up

^ this, there isn’t a bad bike amoungst those. I test rode some of those before I got my Blur LTc, I just prefered the ride of mine over the others, there wasn’t anything wrong wiht the ones I rode, just personal preference

Raleigh Apex in 1993. Girven flex stem and 400LX gears :) then I got a paper round and steadily replaced with XT, thumb shifters and all. took a year but god I was proud of myself (and bike) when I’d done it.

A nice set of wheels and tubeless set up will make a massive difference, as will changing towards a Rockshox Sector/Pike fork. Depends what you want to archieve as it’ll never be a lightweight (or anywhere near) but until you can afford something sufficently lighter upgrading the parts I and other people have suggested will have a profound effect on the bike

Don’t leave them out of sight, simples. They are no where near strong enough to to be left. Fitting a lock maybe an answer but is it really worth the risk? It pisses me off when I go somewhere and the car park isn’t in sight of the cafe but its not as pissed off as I’d be if I can back to my bike missing.

    another one http://www.purplebikeshed.com/mountain_bike_tuition.htm

I mean with both of these it’s be worth asking them what they can offer, they may not specialise in the skills you want to brush up on but they got to be worth a try?

I’d like someone to come and fix my front wall – it’s not in great condition, but the reputable brickies & builders near me are having trouble fitting it in.

Should I just give the work out to a potential cowboy who can do it straight away?

What a ridiculous thing to say  you mean to tell me there are no other good/professional/worth while skills course providors in the SE? Taking nothing away from Jedi, his reputation speaks for itself but there must also be an alternative

    Obsessive about strava

constantly bickering over new bike technology

wants to put disc brakes on a cyclocross bike

    only eats low GI food

only drinks red wine due to the anti oxidants

thinks jokes about push bikes are funny

can’t decide whether to go tubeless/29er/650b/fixed/ss

    thinks fat bikes are good

debates how effective a helmet is at protecting you

    likes cotic bikes

    likes/loaths orange

asks what tyre/tyre pressure for non specific bike situation

Really? I’m not yet convinced having a girlfriend into all this would be good for me. I like going out on my bike with my mates partly because its ‘my’ time. I know some people like it, just not sure it’d be for me

    I especially like this quote

We have someone in Taiwan working on this,” he said. Brewster stressed that this issue would fall under crankbrothers’ two-year warranty, without question

How can they release something when its blatantly not ready and wait for journo’s to find fault with it…..

Sorry, but this had made my mind up. Reverb it is. I know they’re not perfect, but they are obviously far closer than the CB one!

I’m going to have to test ride one to compare it to my standard 26 LTc. What people think is economically worth while is subjective, I use mine alot and get a lot of enjoyment from it. Just the main foscus for most of my money :)

Superstar sintered for me. Tried the kevlar ones but the life was very poor and the stopping power wasn’t noticably higher than the sintered pads.

I genuinely enjoy the servicing side of it. I don’t do things obsessively but I’ll spend a couple of hours cleaning it afterwards. Regular maintenance includes seatpost servicing, fork servicing etc but this isn’t done religously. I hate riding my bike when I haven’t cleaned and checked it over, just like to know that its ‘just right’

really quick tyres but I will echo what someone else has said in that as a front they’re not perfect. I’ve teamed a rear up with an advanatge front.

Typical flippant advice from a load of keyboard warriors. No way you’d be this blunt face to face with a friend. Its sounds like my day job, and sometimes its difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel but you do have to console yourself that things will get better.

Having something outside of work to deal with the stress is really helpful, doesn’t have to be cycling (although lets be honest its a good one). Anything that you find relaxing. To help me deal with the stress I started running. I’d get home stressed to f@ck wanting to give my directors a good hiding, only to go for a run and get back almost completely relaxed. What it also did was calm me down so that I could think of solutions and not the problem, and thats what you need to do.

Remember you got to be a manager because you were seen to be able to do that job competently, take confidence from that and try to think through a way of developing the staff skills to lessen your work load.

But I will echo what some have said in that its the weekend shortly, try and enjoy it :)

I don’t mind admitting, I can’t pump UST tyres up with a track pump. I use CO2 canisters.

As far as I can tell from recent events, if she times it right and dies while doing it, she’ll easy hit her target

What truely awful thing to say

i think that folk see it as brave that the young lady died trying to raise money to help others.
she died helping a good cause didn’t she?
i dont see a problem with wanting to donate to a cause that someone died trying to help.
and i reckon anyone who does is a bit of a toss pot to be honest

This pretty much hits the nail on the head.

In response comment about donating to just any charity, I’ve both donated to friends that done specific challenges for charity and I’ve done a few myself, what people chose to support should be encouraged not questioned. In this case it was tragic that she died trying to raise money for people less fortunate than herself, people are just recognising the sacrifice that she ultimately made.

Maybe we should set up a justgiving page so that we can donate when we see a poorly thought out trolling attempt.

I’m hoping ^ this is the case

I really like mine, I had an Edge 305 before that but I just couldn;t be arsed with the mapping features. I just wanted a toy basically that I could look/play with when I got back home. As a posh computer (basically what I wanted) its great.

And in any case, from a theft perspective, it’s much harder to nick a bike locked inside a car than locked to the outside of a car

Yeah, like its hard to break a window, open the door and steal the stuff……

How often do you hear of a bike falling off a rack or colliding with a car park sign? Or being stolen off a rack?

How often do you hear of a bike falling out of the boot of a car?

To be honest, hardly ever. And the only reason they do is human error. I had rood mounted carriers for around three years covering litterally thousands of miles, never had an issue. I have a tow bar mounted rack now which IMO is not as easy to use as the roof mounted. Either way, unless you have some sort of people carrier or van, I couldn’t be bothered with the hassel of disassembling my bike especially while dirty.

Horses for courses but I’m willing accept the fuel side (although lets face it if you’re carrying three bikes there’s three peoplet to share the cost) for the convinience.

I’d love to get the train but i’ve looked quite a bit and just can’t get it to work financially. As you say, prices are around £300 which is four times (approx) it would cost you to drive (four in a diesel car).

I do like the idea of just getting on a couple of trains though

EXO is a reinforced sidewall, seems to work really tubless and are a dcent weight for such a big tyre. I’m really pleased with mine. I’ve combined it with a 2.25 LUST Ardent on the rear meaning its a quick but relatively agressive set up

by far the quickest service from everyone I use. Never had a problem yet.
