Base of valve stem ? Submerge the stem and give a wiggle

Agree, they can hold air fine until you wiggle them about a bit.

I ran nobby nics after having speed kings for a year, massively better (in 2.25 evo form). Just swapping one after I sliced it though, and am going to a Fat Albert EVO Snakeskin from on one for £23. I’ll see how I get on with it.

I assume that’s the Hamperly end in the forestry area?

I came up the fire road there, looked to be quite a few interesting routes in and out of the trees, but was too knackered to investigate at the time! I’ll probably have a look when I’m next back there.

Further to corvette’s post, I’ve been running the IFP with no pressure for the past month and like how the forks riding. I’m getting better small bump sensitivity, and I’m using the travel more effectively for the same amount of static sag.

Thanks, must have misheard – seemed to good to be true! Not too much more than my current 685mm supercross though…..

What about the 810mm El Guapo Ancho bars from On one? I phoned them to find out the weight and was told 273g, however having just looked at the weight of other alloy bars I’m now wondering if I misheard, and they are 373g!

    Has anyone bought these yet?

I’ve only ridden two of the Stanes, GT and Inners, and I preferred Inners too, and that was with a fairly serious hangover for the climb. Cleared the hangover as I came out of the trees, the descent was ace!

Was out around Cannock this morning, rolling really fast on the frozen ground. Not too slippy either, only one crash and that was a bar/tree interface issue!

What about the Rase Black Mamba post, that comes in 9″ drop and looks pretty good. Price was a bit toppy for me though.

I’m happy with my Hilo TBH, the only time I want more than 4″ is on downhill tracks, and I just drop the post before I go….

Have a look here for your model.

The FIT cartridge service page includes the relevant steps.

Well changing the oil had no effect, but it had manged to wind itself to near full rebound somehow, winding it back to a more sensible setting has ridded me of the clunk – yay!

It’s mostly a noise, but you can feel it when you put your hand on the lowers.

I’ve just popped the damper top cap and the noise disappears as soon as the damper is eliminated. So what in the damper cartridge could be knocking?

Thanks to excellent service from STW’er althepal, getting the matchmakers into the post quick sharp I have an answer.

Basically the Race lever match makers work with the old mini/mono mini levers. The only thing I had to do to get a robust set up was to change the bolts from M5x10 to M5x15 to get enough thread engagement as the race clamp is slightly thicker and leaves a slightly larger gap between the lever and clamp when bolted up. Obviously the profile of the clamp is different, but it doesn’t seem to stand out too much.

The bolt spacing is identical – thanks Hope! Still not convinced on the design of the X-fusion seat release mind….

Sorry, I meant the spacing of the two bolls on the brake clamp. I’ve bought a pair of a fellow STW’er now, hopefully should turn up over the weekend, so will report back with an answer….

I’m not expecting to race, I’ll be happy to get round!

    Cheers for the advice all.

Thanks for the advice so far. Sounds like part of the problem is needing to eat more, I suppose my body can’t convert long term stores [cough] fat [/cough] quickly enough when climbing. I don’t feel ill or anything like that just that my legs have nothing left to give.

I certainly felt quicker when I was commuting 2-3 time a week on the bike, unfortunately a new job has made it difficult to do that any more, so might have to be more evenings out.

Like the sound of soreen and jaffa cakes as fuel!

    Good point!

I normally eat a normal breakfast of cereal, and then have a couple of biscuit type bars for half way round. I’m also trying to lose a bit of weight so have been avoiding eating too much as I want my body to burn fat, possibly the wrong decision?

If I do need to be eating more, what sort of things should I be eating and when?

    Cheers

you really want to use an extractor like this:
    Snap On Extractor

    or even better these:
    RIGID Extractor[/url]

The easy out extractors tend to expand the bolt as the go in increasing it’s grip in the hole, so I’ve only found them good for large strong bolts or bolts which are locked up.

Mine was a bit sticky when new, turning it upside down and cycling it a bit helped quite a lot, moving some oil to the bushes maybe. Did have to cyle a few times when back up the right way to get a solid lock out back.

My first time around Long Mynd today, fancied some natural trails to begin the year rather than the usual cannock trip, and really enjoyed it, even though it hossed it down for all but the first 5mins of the ride…

Riding up through the forest from Hamerly (sp?), it looked like there was a mass of nice cheeky single track running down in the woods?

Quite entertaining watching the walks of shame as I drove through town this morning too!

Well having posted that I need new discs, I came across this thread to double check the direction for my christmas present rotors (not marked on five bolt hopes apparently) – thanks father christmas!

Have you changed your rear pads recently? The front disc on my hope mini’s is slightly dished from use and the new pads have taken an age to bed in, with poor braking levels while it’s been doing so. Really need some new discs!

I’ve got the magicshine light. It’s decently bright but the only mode I use is the always on one, the flashing modes are too poor.

It’s got seven small led’s as well as the main one and the flash mode alternates between them. On top of this the flash rate is very slow, so the main LED only flashes every second or so, plenty long enough for someone to miss it when looking between different directions. The spread from the main LED doesn’t seem that great either, so I’m now looking for something that flashes fast and wide to compliment it on the commute bike.

If you have to remove the insert, just draw a line across it and the frame so you can put it back in the same place.

I was planning a day trip, so shouldn’t be a problem!

Are these other trails all accessed from the same area?

    Thanks

My brother in law hired a fs ghost from trail monkeys in Bradwell last year when we had the same problem. Don’t know if they’re still doing it, or if they’re still there!

You could stay at Eric’s Cafe Campsite/bunkhouse, just sounth of Portmadog on the coast road.

Thanks for the info, could do with an updated data sheet for these things really! I do like the blend from full to low, works very well, easy on the eyes, but not to slow (like the DX lamp)

Thanks for the tips, looking about, it looks like HT2 with the option of a bash guard would be a good choice then! Either that or he can buy the middleburns if he wants the bling factor!

Doesn’t seem right to buy a whole bunch of cogs he’s not going to use though! Is there nothing SS specific out there, and not the Alfine one – it looks far too plastic!

    Bigjim,

the two main components came from Russia, and neither attracted the attention of HMRC (i think the housing was below the £18 limit anyway).

Luminous, here’s a couple of photos:

Performance on Tuesday was brilliant (pun, much!), combined with the magicshine on the bars I was going down at least as fast as I would have in the day. The tighter beam from the XPE’s worked well for a helmet light, and the outdoor colour balance was much easier on the eyes. The only thing I want to modify is to add an on/off switch in the cable – the momentary only controls the mode.

My DIY helmet light was fairly straight forward.

    LED/driver and optics from lux-rc:
    http://lux-rc.com/view.php?p=content/products/light_engines/3UP&_sx=0&_sy=100
    http://lux-rc.com/view.php?p=content/products/secondary_optics/L333_20mm&_sx=0&_sy=100
I went with an XPE for a tighter beam.
I think they do silicon cables now as well.

    Housing from Easy2led:
    http://www.easy2led.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=65&products_id=181&zenid=d8a653bad00545f2616913c95e174364
I bought a mount from them too.

Switch and cable grommet from Farnell
IP67 momentary tactile switch and glue in grommet.

Magicshine extension from ebay chopped up for power lead.
Lipo battery and charger from a magic shine rear light.

An absolute doddle to build – about an hour. Drill two holes in rear cover for switch and gland. Glue them in place, Wire up the button and power cable to the light engine. ‘Pot’ the rear cover with silicone. Bit of thermal paste on the light engine and install screw in lens with a bit of silicon grease to keep water out. Same again with rear cover.

No pictures yet, but may try and get some of it before I go out tonight. Up against my P7 Bastid it completely outclasses it!

I know it’s not in the same league as some of the DIY here, but it suits people without access to mills and lathes, and let me reuse batteries and chargers I already had.

My five had a creak when I built it up (second hand frame).

Tracked it down to the swingarm not clamping the bearings fully. Ended up sanding the spacer blocks down a touch to increase the clamp load on the outer races. I found this as I was stripping down to check the bearings were smooth.

Another idea to add to the pot!

Unfortunately it was bought secondhand with a frame, so warranty is probably not a goer. I just don’t like not being able to do something on my bike!

Looked up Loco before, on holiday from next week unfortunately.
