Actually I’ve just been chatting with ICAN, and their prices seem quite reasonable $415/frameset + $59 shipping.. No prepaid import duties though.

Quite liking the look of the AC109..

I’m expecting import duty to be around £30-50, is that reasonable?

This is a bit of a minefield

Yeah given the option again I think I’d go for a Garmin 810/1000.

Alongside my 305, I actually take a Mio 105 (halfords were doing them for £20) and endomondo running on my phone as backup devices.

Regarding battery life, I find if I charge via the PC it doesn’t ever get to 100% charged. But using the supplied plug charger it gets to 100% charged and seems to last a lot longer. But for long rides I take a small rechargeable battery out with me.

I’ve got a 305, it’s fantastic for sub 60 mile cycles following it’s guidance with cadence, speed, heart rate sensors feeding into it.

Beyond 60 miles while following guidance it seems to crash at some point during the ride, losing some of the data – the latest being 60 miles into a 80 mile ride. I believe this stems from it needing more processing power/memory (based on the length of time it takes to process the route at the beginning and how sluggish it performs during the ride) and so issues may be ironed out on the 315.

Regarding the software I’m not sure what more you’d want? I plug it into the computer it downloads the latest rides I’ve saved, uploads them to the MIO site, sends them to endomondo and strava and checks to see if there are any updates.

If I want to create a new non surprise me route – I use strava or another route maker, download the GPX and place it in the correct folder on the MIO. Select it on the device and go pedal.

    or 56cm on this:

Hoping that that will fit 26/27mm Vittoria Pro Tech tyres.

Cheers, I’m registered with Ican but I still can’t seem to see their prices?

Being 6ft would you go for a 57cm on this:

    My normal bike is a 58cm F95:

    And the PX large was:

Kind of want something in between the two..if not a little bit more like the felt.

Yeah, they used to do a FR-602:

Which is the same as the Ribble CR3:

Not sure I like the geometry though..

    Got mine on Aliexpress.
FR320, although they don’t seem to be doing it anymore.

Does the FR320 take 28c tyres, or even 25c?

They don’t seem to do them in 58cm http://www.flyxii.com/en/products/flx-fr-320.html

I’m presuming the majority of the money is to be made by the advertising on the bikes themselves?

They haven’t revealed who the advertisers are going to be though.

    I’m finding exactly the same!

I’ve switched to Castelli stuff, the entrata 2 is very breathable.

    http://www.tredz.co.uk/.Castelli-Entrata-FZ-Short-Sleeve-Cycling-Jersey-SS15_70718.htm

However the ultimate jersey I’ve got for breath-ability is the Castelli climbers jersey.

I bought one from that supplier and was surprised to find it was actually genuine. :-)

Thats bloody shocking from PX/On One. My frame, although a bit dodgy in the seat tube area has been fine but they bloody well do know about the problem as I had an email conversation with them about it as well as the other up there!!

Very interesting reading, thank you for that!

I know it’s “only” £150, but it’s principle. Mine was creaking like mad, and like you I wanted to cover myself without outlay on it, creaking suggests it was under stress and only a matter of time before it cracked. Then I foresaw the whole “you’ve over-tightened it unlucky” scenario.

Anyway I don’t wish to hijack this thread, buyer beware and all that.

Excellent – I’m going to speak to my credit card issuer (bank) and see if they can reverse the charge. I think I’ve been patient enough!?

Done, I’ve just got to wait for the paperwork now.

This is the full transcript I’ve had with them if anyone’s interested: http://forum.cyclinguk.org/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=106647&sid=6718e63e55a3337ae7402e239db0977d&start=15#p1020329

The thing that honked me off most, when I was going through their cycle of theft and lies, was the lack of quality control in the lying. A good lie’s a work of art- it’s plausible and durable and takes a bit of effort. On One would happily tell a blatant lie, I’d point out that it contradicted the info on their website, so without pausing they’d just tell another blatant lie that contradicts the website AND the original lie. Their bullshit is as finely crafted as their bikes.

Lie #1, in that case, was exactly the same lie as you just got incidentally.

Yeah, the annoying thing is you have to wait 4-5 working days for a pointless response from them.

Right now I’m in limbo as they still haven’t responded to my emails since the 26th May. Even after 3/4 calls and a couple of online chats, I just get told they’ll call me back or email me back as it’s with another department.

No idea how to proceed from here to be honest. :?

Thanks for the responses, links back abd reassurances that it’s not just me being a picky g*t

I’m not really up for shimming it so standing firm on a refund now – I specifically bought the PX seat post and clamp (along with 2x wheelsets + all the bits required for the frame that usually come as standard from other companies such as cable clips, cable guides etc) so it would all match. I did stupidly ask for a credit note so I could try one of their RTD framesets – but I’m beyond that now and don’t wish to hand them anymore money.

It’s more annoying that this was perfect for commuting, such a nice ride and looked great too. May try a chinese carbon frame instead. :D

I wasn’t going to show this, but PX are really hacking me off now.

My original email to them stated that the seat tube was over sized, this is their response:

    Hi Nathan

We have never had a problem with this at all it is a first.I would recommend sending the frame back so the warranty team can inspect that.We can arrange collection for you.

    Regards

Therefore you guys with seat tube issues have photoshopped them!

I use the Madison prime on my road bikes, cheap as chips on eBay if you wanted to try it.

Yeah definitely seat clamp area – confirmed by placing a clamp on it and tightening (by hand) just until it bites – makes the same creak.

Before doing that test I tried:
    2x 31.6mm seat posts
    3x seat clamps (Hope/BB/PX)
    Carbon pasted/greased/dry
2x different saddles (one brand new, one from my road bike so confirmed it doesn’t)

Yeah mines out of spec too, not as much as that though!!

The issue is it’s causing a huge creak, which was highly annoying.

Some of stuff they have said so far though….

Fulcrum Racing quattro’s – “slightly” over budget at circa £160 though.

Really have transformed my bike compared with what I had previously.

    Yes! Well kind of…

I’ve just sent my commuter back (PX LR) for a warranty issue, the weekend bike is on slicks so anything less than dry is ridiculously slippery so I’m on the train with other people!! :(

I found that running benefited my hill climbing out of the saddle, but not general cycling. I only started running over winter as I only had a “best” road bike that I didn’t like to use in the rain.

I proved this to myself as I went all out on a 5k park run (21 mins  ), knackering my legs to the point it was painful to walk. But then got on a bike and rode 40 miles without any discomfort other than hill climbing (out of the saddle).

I started running by jogging for a mile, it would hurt for a couple of days, then I’d go out and do it again. After 2 or 3 times I was able to jog for 5k easily. Then I just started increasing the pace, 10k came quite easily after that.

Unfortunately I can’t run at the moment because of a stomach issue, well at the pace I want to, but I now have an all weather road bike. Good luck!

good luck. The pic of my first one is back on page 7, it was laughably out of spec, not just the 0.2mm that some people sorted with shims. The replacement was better but still out so I had a full refund.

The theory was that it was only the silver ones (that were the only ones reduced to £150) that had the issues, but then people buying full bikes were likely to have had the seat tube binder tightened up in the warehouse before the bike was shipped and be less likely to notice.

    Thanks!

I wouldn’t have minded the issue, if it hadn’t have creaked and I’d gone out of my way to buy PX branded parts to try and solve it instead of the stuff I’d already had. But every slight movement on the saddle causes it – which is unacceptable on a road bike imho.

At least it’s an opportunity to strip down and rebuild a bike – quite enjoy doing it. If they do replace the frame the seat post is the first thing I’ll be checking, if it’s out again then I may ask for a refund and get an FM079

How long did it take with their warranty team?

    That’s a good idea Horatio!

I even went out and bought the official planet x 31.6 seat post. Definitely more wiggle room with the post than any other bike I’ve owned.. But it looks so good

Okay mine is suffering in the seat post/clamp department.

Can’t get it to stop creaking!!

Do I really need to cut open a can of beer/coke and make a shim? It does seem like the seat post diameter is a tad too big..

(Yeah yeah I should have listened  )

Planet X London Road – commuter & creakiest bike I’ve ever owned…(seat post )

I got some sportful giro mitts from halfords for £5, they’re thin but are very comfortable. The other pair are full on waterproof windproof sealskinz. :-)

The way I see gloves is that it maintains grip when/if your palms get sweaty and prevents calluses.

I also wear clear/sun glasses as cars etc do kick up stones/dust and then there’s insects, so I’m not sure how you can’t class them as essential items @gary M??
