    @ nobeerinthefridge

We are already based in Sanremo, but For Nov – end of March, then we head to Molini..

That said molini is about 15 degrees, sunny and no snow at the moment!!

You will need load rated tyres regardless if its loaded up or not, if the retreads come rated, I cannot see why not..

Most book up early to take advantage of cheap flights. Flights used to released up to 3 months ahead, now its more like 9 months, our busiest booking period used to be Jan/Feb these days we are booking up October..

Was about to return to the UK and I couldn’t find my passport, so lots of haasle getting replacements, interviews in foreign passports office etc…

When I returned to Italy, I was cleaning the kitchen and when I moved the fridge, my passport was underneath!! no idea how it got there.

I have just acquired this for trail clearing/opening duties…its friggin awesome..

and with this attachment… rips through everything..

but for general trail clearing, a mattock, rake and flat shovel for bench cutting is all you need for any type of terrain..

    Stihl… then I am a bit of a fanboy..

I borrowed a huge stihl mother, to cut a metre diameter tree that fell on the trail, scared the bejezus out of me… Used it to do some small bits and pieces and I slipped, cut my knee open and just grazed the tendons….

Don’t £$%& about with them…and don’t put your safety trousers on the wrong way round

As sharkbait, costs nowt to have and there is a top fee of £2 if you make any transactions in a month..

We used it for our business for quite awhile but we were told that we couldn’t anymore so now have a HSBC business one which is crap in comparison.

Citibank will make their money when you transfer from your gbp acc to Euro and give you a less favourable rate… or just use online exchange sites..

The main shuttle trails are around Melognio so further out of the beach resort and in woods. July is fine if you are under cover.. It can be hotter in valley bottoms in the Alps than the Riviera dei Fiori, and temps rarely get over 30…

The shuttle companies dont shuttle in Jul/Aug as all the Germans are in the Alps..

All I can say is avoid August….its hell!!

Around that milage you are going to start looking at clutch/dmf, dpf, EGR and other issues, the fact it’s also just out of warranty…. so budget 2-3K for repairs/replacement… other than that you should be OK

I bought a 5 year old VW T5 with 160k on the clock, the clutch/ dmf had been replaced at 130k and the dpf had been removed and had a remap….. the bus is now on 205k after 18 months of heavy use and other than needing a new alternator has been spot on.

When I was there in 2001 I did loads of things

Table mountain you can climb up…no need for the cable car.

On long street there are many offices that can book you on escursions etc.. I did quad biking (proper race ones), A brai on a sailing yacht overlooking the bay, we then got picked up in a semi inflatable and ragged that on the sea chasing dolphins and then clubs and strip joints..

Grear white shark diving was one of the most incredible things I have ever done…..but this is now frowned upon as there are many people with boats doing this causing problems.

Robben Island was a bit meh, so if you cant go dont worry about it..

Then you have cape point great beaches etc..

Stelenbosch and the wine regions are great, there is one with some cheetahs and you can pay to go in the pen and stroke them..

On the garden route, the bungie jumps was a laff, also there are some caves and dont forget to go to the ostrich farm and have a go riding one…I nearly got killed, but ostrich burgers are ace.

    Enjoy

Yep…. that one has done 82000km and “revisione 2008” is what Italians used for restored/repaired..

Still for 5k Euro not a lot compared to the coupe’s…

    May not bother…

No not the prettiest, but the engineering and quality of build is incredible…. this one is pre Fiat……….. seems that there are very little berlinas about but tons of coupe’s

Thats the S works, with carbon rims, and weighed it without pedals (a pound in weight)

The 29er frame is exactly as the 650b so its just elongated rear end, so little difference in weight.

Forks are the new fox 160mm, so are same weight as RS Pikes

The ohlins shock is not much heavier than the DB air can… so without pedals it was 28.4 pounds..with those tyres…. so with pedals about 29.4 pounds…

Very light (bike weighed 28 pounds)

    No it didn’t

Errrm ok I was wrong it was about 28.4 without pedals but inc a coil shock… It was lighter than with the 29er wheels.. the tyres were about 900 grams each, thin side walls… they were proto so dont know if current tyres come out that weight

weighed with a set of park scales… do you know any different?

Spesh Enduro 29 er with 650b wheels and 3inch + tyres. It rode like a trials bike…loads of grip especially on rocks and roots, climbing UP techy trails was amazing. Very light (bike weighed 28 pounds), rolled fast on the roads.

Bike was very quiet on the descents in Molini, the tyres ran 0.9 bar so small bump was taken care of by the tyres and the forks were wound in a bit harder…. only thing I didn’t like that’s its near impossible to make the rear end drift.. (which can be a good thing for trail preservation)

So now seriously considering this setup, with a standard set of 29 er wheels too. I am a an MTB guide in the Italian Alps and I don’t get sucked in by fads but this seriously impressed me..

in the process of having mine done in Italy, 1500 euro per tooth but is discounted as the dentist is an mtb friend. the implant is in and is now a case of getting the tooth made and fitted…… its taken 9 months so far as he recommended time for the bone to heal an grow after extraction. apparently problems arise when its done too quickly…

The important thing is that you still enjoy it, then why dwell on it all

a new panel van has a list price of about 18k plus vat…. and you can easily convert to a kombi quite easily, and as said above you can easily retrofit a lot of spec options……

    nasher
    Free Member

I have seen higher spec lwb shuttles going for cheaper than that and with less milage.

cant say on the new 2ltr engines but my 130 2.5 I bought with 150k on the clock, its now 200k after 1.5 years and the only fault I have had is the alternator bearings were going.still worked tho.

They are great vans, but costly to repair…… on that van I would want a new dual mass clutch fitted (they go at around that milage) and very costly to replace

i just crossed from calais to dover with DFDS, my t5 shuttle LWB went as a car, I selected <2.35 x 6m. No probs

also I get charged class 1 on the tolls…. in Italy it varies between 1&2 depending what the machines or attendants decide.

seems that yt are sorting the issue..

all 3 capras we have had here in molini have broken on the rear swingarm…

our theory was that maybe under load twisting forces may cause the hanger to eat in the carbon, also all of the mechs had taken a knock and this may have caused the hanger to twist and eat in to the carbon.

    lovely bikes tho

    nukeproof mega.

was going to order a capra pro…but… seems that the carbon where the mech hanger and maxle seat is breaking apart, seen this on two of the three capras I have seen.

EDIT: I didnt take any photos, but this pretty much sums up what I have seen, dont know what the official YT stance is at the mo.

    Nick

We now work alongside Angelo in Nava and also Stefano an the guys in Dolceacqua as well as Fulvio in Calizzano. We have also opened new trails that now links Molini to Nava. So basically the entire region is now linked up with trails, this has been about 3 years in the making but we are finally there.

We will be doing packages that will cover Finale, Calizzan, Nava, Molini and Sanremo all in one week and slso long weekends using the local uplifts and guides

Drop us a line if you want info or just a lift over from the airport.

There are trails and areas you can do on sundays, not in finale though as there is a blanket ban due to the number of people there
