A nice carbon road bike …I like those BMCs
A mid travel FS with 29″ wheels …Bandit Two9 in black & white with Pro II & white Flows, black Revs, 2×10 Shimano and a Reverb
My Cube X Race comp …it’s the bike I ride most and love it!
Jones Spaceframe Ti with Truss fork and fat up front …would make a lovely pub bike 😆

OK, so aside from the spelling, random Capitalisation, poor grammar and music it seems that Lothian buses have good intentions.

The cyclist in the film, if not a stooge put there to assist in the film, is not long for this world. Poor road positioning, a lack of confidence & a lack of forward planning make him vulnerable.

I don’t think it’s fair to put the onus on the cyclist when driving along where there are keep left islands in the centre of road. He’s too far in on the left because he’s timid and feels threatened; he’s not inviting the bus driver to make a pass. It’s the driver’s responsibility to stay back, ease the pressure and just relax the situation.

As for the 05:20 bit, it has nothing to do with waiting for the bus driver to move off but all to do with the cyclist’s poor road positioning and lack of awareness that the bus driver can only see him from his wing mirror if he’s well positioned. The cyclist needs to be just to the left of the centre line of the road well before being alongside the bus, oncoming and following traffic permitting, and fully expecting bus driver stupidity. Most bus drivers do seem to start moving before checking mirrors, or giving OAP passengers the time to get to their seat!.

City cycling demands confidence and planning from the cyclist and great care, thought, planning and consideration from the bus driver. This video shows neither but does highlight some common issues.

Take care of yourselves, and each other.

Having spent yesterday on a Tallboy demo and, though loving how it rides and in general loving the new-to-me feel of 29ers, it seemed to me as though it would benefit from more travel and a slacker head angle.

This new LT Tallboy looks to be the solution to that problem, but its biggest drawback could be its (anticipated) price and the Bandit Two9.

Having ridden the Strange green prototype last weekend I have to say that it was a really nice ride …if a little bit noisy without a protected drive-side chainstay!

Much, much better to look at in a flat green colour than that black-gold colour scheme with the naff stickerage.

@dday: I would be very interested to hear how you get on with the Bandit 29er, cheers.

@Paceman: I think the first batch of 50, all black and gold apparently, are sold out (to dealers) and will be in the shops in the next week or two.

The one I rode was a green painted prototype, it looked really nice in the metal. I don’t think that I’d like it in black ‘n gold.

Maybe Orange have a demo day list page on their website? Either way they’re only a phone call away!

    @Paceman: I’m 6’2″. I think 100mm up front on both SC & Orange.

The band part is almost impossible, but currently it would have to be Field Music …some fantastic music and songs so far and I’m sure there’s lots of new stuff to come.

    Dogtooth – 6/10

Greek family ‘social experiment’, quite odd and darkly comical in places.

He turned up but didn’t ride then?

    In one!

He rode my bike in the car park, told me the shock rebound was ‘a bit quick’ and that the handlebars are too wide.

Obviously I ran off crying to rectify those faults before setting off.

No idea why he came all that way and didn’t ride; weird.

Thanks for the ride Chris, sorry I had to bail before branching off to N America.

It was a bit windy though, wasn’t it?

I guess it’s a progression from an advanced level of skydiving. Like when you get to a point where there’s no thrill left in doing that!?

You could try a wingsuit out in a wide open space as part of a freefall from an aircraft then para down to the ground, no?

The base and cliff jumping just looks insane, but is mesmeric.

    Naranjada

But not sure about the wingsuit thing …sheesh, you need cajones grandes for what they get up to.

    Very nice.

I think if I was to win the lottery I could quite happily while away the long, tedious hours learning to fly and learning to skydive.

I found the film very oppressive and very tense, I recall holding my breath for some of the more challenging scenes.

However, it is one of the best films I’ve seen in the last year.

As others have said, you need to lose fat by lowering your calorie intake. It’s all about what you eat and drink.

If all that you change is to lower your intake your body fat will decrease. If you add extra fat burning exercise, cycling being one of the best, this will help to speed up the process.

Bench pressing and the like will have no visible effect unless you have a small amount of body fat but it will help to burn off some calories and increase strength and muscle tone for when the fat goes.

I think you are doing the right and caring thing by trying to help your brother. I’m sure that you know him well enough to talk frankly with him should he confront you about it, and that he’s smart enough to see that your intentions are good.

Loss is one of the hardest situations to deal with. I think your suggestion of bereavement counselling is very sound indeed.

    My tuppence:

It seems that your brother is withdrawn, is likely to be depressed and is possibly even blaming/criticising himself; a classic case of the 3 ego states like this – critical internal parent (blame yourself), vulnerable internal child (just wants to be loved but is scared) and under developed internal adult (doesn’t know how to cope).

It sounds like your mother could be the source of his issues. A demanding, possibly critical, parent is almost guaranteed to inculcate within their children a sense of unworthiness. It may well be that your brother has coped with this for a long time, possibly buoyed by his relationship with your father (was your father a generally positive influence, was the bond between father and son very strong?) and now that your father has died he feels vulnerable and his relationship with your mum is in sharp focus and he finds it hard to cope with it.

In summary, I think you’re doing the right thing. It sounds to me like you, your brother and your mother need to calmly and openly discuss the situation but I understand that’s easy for me to say.

I hope things improve for you all.

I had a fantastic ride from Ladybower this morning, taking in Winhill, Potato Alley & Lockerbrook, but there is alot of ice, so it’ll be hidden beneath a layer of snow by now.

It was snowing quite heavily in Hillsborough as I left at 3:45 to return to Manchester, I didn’t chance the Snake Pass route.

If I was you I’d not bother. Soz.

Heard about it on R4 on the way to work, it’s good to see action being taken.

My support has been pledged at the Times website.

The media is all powerful so let’s hope some good comes of it.

    Deffo sounds like the bouncing.

I had the exact same issue as a result of dropping the gearing on my commuter single speed but foolishly ignored the pain. I ended up with constant pain, even after not riding for >10 days; even sitting on a hard chair would prompt pain. I subsequently spent 2 years not riding a bike. I did try riding during that 2 years but within 5 mins (!) I was in pain again.

    I’m OK now though.

Whatever you do, sort it out before it puts you out of the saddle.

    Best of luck.

That’s good to hear, but I reckon it’s mainly good on here …we probably only hear about the bad stuff, the good gets taken for granted.

Props to you for making the effort to feedback.

Dropper post limited to 5mm up or 5mm down?

You actuate it remotely with a thumblever, once every half rev’ of the cranks.

You’d need 1 remote in the drops and 1 on the hoods though …that’s the only issue I can see with this solution.

Saddle 5mm higher, err hang on …5mm lower. And platform SPDs. Oh God, it’s a minefield!

Gotta say Darcy that you are, despite your rude assertion, wrong.

Every dog has the ‘being a dog instinct’ at the top of their list of priorities.

Your point is more about how you suppress the dog’s instincts, turning them into less of a dog at the same time.

    Beautiful spiders.

I’ve always wanted to hold a large fluffy one like those above, assuming that those above are large and not just big photos 😆

Quite scared though, which I know is a shame and is just what we’re conditioned to think.

I love the way spiders move.

I think that the pricing should have waited until after Cotic had a finished, production frame and some professional marketing images.

The only photo of the droplink on Cotic’s website shows what to me looks like an unfinished prototype, something only an engineer, or its mother/father, could love. Maybe that’s intentional but I suspect not, Cotic’s products are usually clean looking & aesthetically pleasing.

They are actually surprisingly big terraces

Yes, and it’s surprising that most have had the loft converted into an extra bedroom; it makes good sense to do that if you have a cellar for storage.

That’s reassuring to know FunkyDunc, cheers.

I’ve seen quite a few nice looking terraced houses near Hillsborough Park around £130k, and if the area is gaining popularity that will hopefully trend upwards over time.

Yep, he’s best listened to in a quiet environment, headphones work very well. There’s some very low register bass in some of his music that I’m sure must disturb my neighbours.

His cover of Joni Mitchell’s ‘Case of you’ is wonderful.

Yep, Walkley features regularly in my saved property list on rightmove.

And easy to use Rivelin Valley out to Peak on bway by the looks of things.

Going to have ride in the Peak on Saturday and follow it with a mooch around those parts.

    Cheers.

I currently live off Carter Knowle road and it is roughly a 20-30min bike ride out to the peaks on mostly Bridleway.

Drop me a line if you want anymore info, as an a side I’ll be looking to sell my house shortly (Due to split) and looking to move myself to one of the areas listed above

Cheers tiff, I’ll bear that in mind but it looks like that area could be out of budget; I’m looking to spend max ~£130k for 3 bed terrace with cellar, with plans to rent it out in the future.

…fair enough, it’s my least preferred location so your comment helps reinforce that.

There must be some OK bits though?
