Managed a 55 mile loop on the SDW from Peacehaven to Chanctonbury & back & it was the hardest ride of the Winter so far.
The grass is sodden, the chalk is tacky and the trails have been mashed by bikes, horses, walkers and tractors.
It's god training and good to be out and certainly better than being on a road bike – have you seen the state of the roads around here at the moment?

I went and was numbed by the scale, brutality and inhumanity.
A must see – for very different reasons.

    What nasher said:

We raced with Riviera bike a couple of years ago and had a great time – very well looked after by Ady & Jo.
The pasta is superb (Italians don't eat rubbish) as is the course.

I think that too much grappa might have impaired my performance and my ability to correctly guess the sex of one of the german competitors in the next tent.

Here's my Jones on the Slickrock trail last September. Worked OK on many rides but a full sus was best on Porc Rim decent to get the full experience. Go, you won't regret it.

Then twisted it is; and not averse to a bit of the old ultraviolence too.
Last saw him in New York over Christmas having a ball despite not having a clue how to get from A to B despite an easy to read grid system.
Not seen on a bike much these days; unure if he still has the Marin B17(?).

Futon – glad that cleared that up, it did make me wonder.
Would you send me an Email (address in profile) and we'll get the ball rolling.

Stu – I have 2 brothers, both are a little (ahem) 'eccentric', which one do you know?

    Futon,

Hello, I'm guessing that you're the Jones rider I saw on the cycle path heading towards the knackered pier in Brighton last Wednesday (yellow jacket).

I'm a Brighton based Jones owner – fancy meeting up sometime?

It's not lethal and there is a cycle lane part of the way (e.g. cliff side of the A259 between the Marina and Rottingdean).

My preferred quick route would be clifftop to Rottingdean, road to Telscombe then Telscombe to Newhaven on the clifftop path. This avoids the undercliff.
But staying on the A259 all the way is a reasonable call too.

I hope that Button winning is not a foregone conclusion otherwise people won't vote for the other emminently more deserving candidates who weren't assisted by having the best technology to work with.

Rode it today too – it rocks. I enjoyed the rooty challenge of the old trail ending but this is much more flowing & much more fun.

Well done to everyone who created the fast dry berms!

    Pete,

Hello, like Jimbo I'm in Brighton too and I can take time out in the week for a spin to Worthing & back – maybe a bite to eat in Carats too.

Let me know, I work flexi time and would only need a weeks notice to arrange a date. I can meet you anywhere in Brighton and it would be good to catch up with Jimbo again too if we manage to synchronise our dates with him.

    Email in profile.

    Take care

I hope that this doesn't come across as a thread hijack but it may be appropriate as we're talking Jones.
I am selling a Jones frame at the moment (http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/fs-jeff-jones-spaceframe-29er-suspension-forks) – but not very agressively it has to be said.

    Most bands do not mime.

Apart from Sigue Sigue Sputnik; the music carried on and so did the vocals after the band had left the stage following a hail of glasses & bottles when I saw them. Good fun though.

Peter Hitchins (Mail on Sunday Columnist) is a t.w.a.t.
Always has been, always will be. He represents a middle England that doesn't exist anymore.
    Columnist without portfolio.

And don't get me started on Nigel Havers.

Matt, this would have made a great article in the mag, did you submit it to STW?

Mods – Is it too late to get this published with some nice photos that Matt has to illustrate the story?

I really enjoyed the series but it ended too quickly for me and the program didn't give the overall times & positions of all of the other competitors.
And the program didn't summarise the difficulties and heroics of all of the other teams, making it hard to compare their achievements. Did other teams have more problems or get lost or give up?
Could the team have done better without Cracknell (and the subsequent delays caused by his poor condition) or did the team need Cracknell inspite of his condition to keep them focused & driven?
I think that they may have folded if Cracknell had not been allowed to continue.

Yes, Cracknell looks like he's jeopodised the success of the team.

And given his foot injuries and infection and pneunomia on one lung I was very surprised that the Dr. gave him a 50 / 50 chance of continuing.

I reckon that Ed & Fogle should complete it as pair and learn from what happened to Cracknell; although I don't think that either of them are stupid / arrogant enough to think that they would do what he did.

I’ve got the Jones frame for suspension forks (only a handful made) & it rides like a dream. Not as quick to accelerate as my Trek 69er but otherwise superior. Very smooth and easy to maintain.
It looks great (IMO) and that makes me want to ride it more. The Ti does need to be cleaned as soon as you get back from a sheep sh1t ridden ride.

I swung my leg over Russel Burtons Spaceframe at MM last year and it’s like having a pack of dogs pulling you; it just wants to ride F.A.S.T.
I didn’t have the readdies for the full-on Spaceframe and got lucky with a second hand frame. Dean’s looks good too even with the Pugsley front tyre.

I’m lucky enough to have the original in root beer. The bike rides really well and I ride it regularly. The front wheel rolls over pretty much anything and it accelerates quicker than my 29er (possibly to do with the shorter chain stays?).
It’s light, but rock solid and pretty durable. No issues to report once the bottom bracket was replaced and the bars were swapped for the Titec Jones copy.
    Very pleased with it.

aP – I’ll look out for you. I’m riding in a 69er pair.

    Gary,
Yes I did mail the Cheesy riders but I’ve not heard from Agency.

Basically looking for info on how the sale is run and I will be at the Bikefest on the Saturday.
Well, if you hear from Mark – then please ask him to contact me (Email address in profile).

Fair point Adam – I just got stung £11 to take delivery of 3 CD’s from the US.
I bought the Titec J bars from Single Speed Central (dutch site) and paid no extra.

The bars are really comfortable and have given me a range of hand positions. A good buy.

Why don’t you just order a single pair from Single Speed Central (http://www.singlespeed.nl/catalog/advanced_search_result.php?keywords=titec&osCsid=06a7c56165e3b5a3129e16493db2f926) for 75 EUR like what I did. :-)

Yep, that one too. I’d never think to take spare pads to a place that’s known to wear them out when it’s wet.

Perhaps, it’s less of a missing Page; more of a missing issue. Issue 49 3/4 anyone to finish off these stories?

No-one held a gun to those soldiers heads (excuse the pun) and forced them to sign up where they knew that they might end up fighting abroad. It’s a job and they do it for money.
    They’re not heroes for me.
Totally surprising that they have a parade when they return, perfectly right to demonstrate.
