I got lucky, WD40 overnight followed by some gentle plier coaxing worked a treat and the seat post is out. Put the orignal Bonty post back in and we’re hot to trot.
Many thanks for all of your help and advice. I’ll write to Thomson and tell them what happened.

I like the star nut idea too – will measure up tomorrow. Thanks

Hi Amos, I’m in Brighton. I’ll consider bringing it to South Oxford if you think you can get it out. Should I take pictures first to give you a better idea?

Leffe – thanks, just been looking at Sheldon’s. May have to consider that too.

Trek 69er single speed as it hapens.

I can’t get any movement at all – it’s well seized. I’m not sure that a coat hanger would have the strength but it’s worth a try – or something more industrial with a hook. Thanks.

I’m still thinking that if I drilled through 2 of the slots & through the seatpost in 2 places that I could get a strong bar through, which would give me the ability to pull the remaining post out or gently tease it up with a hammer (or pig skin mallet).
Any other ideas before I drill and do something which isn’t reversible?

There will be energy food representation from Torq, Mule, Clif & SIS – not sure exactly what they have for sale tomorrow and there are other site caterers too.
Asda is close (1.5 miles from site) too.

Wasn't so pretty tonight – couldn't see the course exit from the Pavillion – bl00dy rain!
Fingers crossed for dryer days this week although it'll be a hoot whatever weather presents itself on the day.

See you at 7am on Saturday Tim. Good riding last night btw.

    Rich,

Good thread so far and I'm with you 100% on points 1,4 & 5. I didn't ride SIT's but these would apply to OSMM too.

    A good start.

Cracking gig last night in Brighton. I reckon the Albert holds about 150 or so and everyone came out with huge smiles.
Really good set list with most of World Service plus choice tracks (Liberator, Rainmaker, Soldier Soldier etc.) and they also threw in The Original Sin.
Kirks voice recovered after a shaky start and new track Undertoe sounded ace.
    Well played Kirky.

I did London to Brighton recently starting at Marble Arch at midnight.

It was quiet and cool with little traffic, which may be a better bet than doing it during the day in heavy traffic.

Going to see them at the Albert in Brighton next Saturday.

Alas, unlikely to be Liberator or other One Eyed Jacks era as they are playing the World Service LP.

Name an english player that has proven that they are world class week in week out.

    Rooney
    Ferdinand
    Lampard
    Gerrard
    A. Cole

Of course you will now tell me that I am wrong…

You're wrong. None of those players would feature in a World 11 starting line-up. Rooney would be close, Beckham was close in his pomp but that's it.

Well done Rob – I came out to see you around Southease last night to show you around the temporary footbridge (in case you didn't know the main bridge was up). However, I suspect that you'd been long gone by the time I got to the filthy farm to see you.

Great effort and I reckon you're SS record will stand for a long time.
Kinda makes up for Exposure24 and OSMM by some way I reckon – you were due some good fortune.

He's in and has set the fastest SS time and the 2nd fastest SDW double time with 18hrs 41mins 59secs – incredible.

If people were meant to pick up a ball and carry it, then the ball should have handles.

Now then, who saw the alien splash land into the Atlantic at the end of the film?
It's clearly shown over the left hand shoulder of the 2 main characters as they ride the Wonder Wheel at Coney Island; this video footage is actually at the start of their camera but at the very end of the film & it just helps to add some contact to the events.

Yep, I was on a ss Trek 69er & managed 11 laps with 32/19 gearing.
John Pitchers reckons that 32/22 is the way to go next year & I agree.

Very pleased with 5th indeed for my 1st solo 24.

When can we sign up for next year?

    Brilliant, brutal and beautiful.
A competitive race with a friendly and co-operative feel. How did they do that?

Excellent stuff. My first Solo 24 but I'll be back for my second next year. Top event, top course & great to meet and ride with everyone there.

The pot-luck showers were fun too.

Mark I'm here when you need me – been ages since the South Downs saw your sorry lame a55.
Happy to join you on the ride – pick somewhere where you may be short of other riders and I'll be there.

And it's about time we came up to T Wells for that Indian- let's get it booked when you get back from NYC.

Hey Philly, can I pick up issue 4 from you earlier on the 27th – I'm in Liverpool St area until 14:00 then headed back to Brighton.

Alternatively, can I get one from Condor or the cool mag / book shop diagnonally opposite Condor (if you squint) before 13:00?

Play Dead, now you're talking. Cracking live, shame they were never well produced until Company of Justice IMHO.
I was there at the Tin Can B'ham when the set was halted when a fight outside led to a skin falling through the roof & dying. Bloody Digbeth skinheads.
Add Balaam & the Angel to your list & pre PWEI band From Eden too.

Was Norman Cook with BEats International at that point?

Kirk does (or used to) ride a bike infact I met up with him on a Rockinghorse charity ride a few years ago. However, his knees gave up before we got to Ditchling Baecon (saddle way too low I'm afraid – quiff just above the bars!).

TOH / The Pack / SOD Top 5

    Westworld
    Original Sin
    Liberator
    Never Take Me Alive
    Legion

DezB – Chilli Peppers at Klub Foot, well played that man. They were probably good back then. :-)

Just looked again – it could be Nigel Preston afterall. Doh!

That's Luke Rendal alright, definitely not Nigel Preston.

I see Kirk a fair bit in Brighton, always has an eye for the ladies – especially bleached blonde ones. The program spent a lot of time on this relationship yet Kirk will continue to deny it out of hand and I wouldn't like to raise it with him. He's not been well and raising his blood pressure would be cruel.

BTW, he's still quiffed but the last time I saw it (at the Specials gig last year) it was grey.

Want another interesting story? Boy George pinched my bum while I was trying on a pair of trousers in Birmingham's Rag market. He was working there and doing a bit at Kahn & Bell too. Him and Martin Degville (Sigue Sigue Sputnik) were quite the tearaways of the Birmingham scene before they moved to London.

Yes, I remember Crazy Pink Revolvers too – think I saw them with Under Two Flags somewhere (Dingwalls?).

The course didn't flow and it was difficult to build and maintain momentum. The best bit (for me) was the long climb to the top of the course from the feed station – the longest part of the course where you weren't interrupted by bog.
That said there were some heroic efforts – especially by Ian Leitch.

I'd like to go back when the course is dry and less of a slog.

Fairly expensive for what was on offer.

Quite simple really, contact Ride The World who are run by Paul who used to work for Rocky Mountain Adventures.
I had a great trip with them last year taking in Colorado, Moab & Fruita.
