Lets look at it from the point of being a buyer.

Sometimes shit happens, and that may be what has happened in this case. Perhaps her male friend knows more about cars and so is better qualified to come look at it. £1000 is a lot of money to some people, and perhaps after making a rash decision of ‘yes i will buy it’ her friend told her he will go look at it, as he may be more comfortable with saying no deal if he thinks its not worth it.

3 years ago, i needed a new car, and didnt have a lot of cash to play with. Cars up here in northern scotland are so iverpricced compared to England. So even after factoring in trainfare, i thought it might be cheaper or better value to buy in England. So saw a car on Pistonheads, in Bradford. Expressed an interest and asked for more photos, particularly of known problematic areas on the body etc. Said i was interested, but guy wanted £200 deposit to keep it for me, paid by bank transfer. Obviously alarm bells rang a bit, but he obviously had the car as he had been able to supply exact photos as requested.

I asked for his address as i said the bank needed it along with account number etc for the transfer.

Once i had it,aling with his name, i used the electoral role to check he lived there, then google streetview, and the street matched that of the one in the car photos.

This gave me a bit of assurance, but obviously still a bit cautious.

Anyway, bought the car, 3 easy mot passes later it is still going strong, and has never missed a beat. £1000.

I really like my Superstar El Plastique. Light, if you tighten the pins a bit more, good grip, and only cost me £ 15 in sale before Christmas.

Can you do that with c2w vouchers. I was always under the impression that you could only buy extras/accessories if you were buying a bike with the vouchers at the same time?

Just to clarify, i wasn’t saying my build was comparable to the X01, but that fir similar money you can build domething up that might be better than the complete bike. I think kjnr is better specced thsn the x9 version

I went years ago with a mate taking our own bikes. Was glad we did, the website said they had a well maintained fleet of giant full suspension bikes. Strangely enough, my mates bike had suffered a bent chainring on the flight, and the only bike they could lend him until the bike shop opened was a knackered old specialized hardtail.

I didnt think Alan was particularly interested in the biking side, but that didnt bother me as our guide Tom, was great.

For the price, i thought it was ok, probably doesnt compare to larger companies but i dont have any personal experience of the,
    m.

The trails were fun, although not exactly technical or difgicult. One route did involve a long climb around the edge of a huge landfill site, which in a warm climate was not pleasant.

The free bar, is beer from the fridge, the extensive range of films, were pirated dvds (probably bought from the looky looky men in Fuengirola).

I did enjoy my time there, but probably wouldnt book with themagain, as it certainly didnt seem too professional.

    Build one up yourself?

I built this up, all new parts, for £1030

I agree. Changing bits out will probably at the very least endup costing no less than the original bike, or in most cases slightly more because
    a) they wont be able to sell the removed bits as new
    b) it takes time, and time is money
    c) they will probably charge rrp for the new bits.

Best bet is to ask the shop exactly what you did above, and see what they say, and let us know what you find out.

I received a forum warning from Velowanker because i started a new thread about a topic, after the search function failed to show any related thread.

When i messaged him back asking if he could be helpful direct me to the already existing thread, i got a reply saying sarcasm isnt nice and uncalled for, and of course, no help in finding the thread.

I think the real point is that only a maniac would buy any complete On-One build when you could assemble a bike just as good by simply buying the frame, raiding your spares bin and shopping for other parts for yourself…

Except, you can’t for the price unless you happen to have a Pike, 1×11, Reverb lying around – and as new supplied, all
    warrantied.

That exact spec at the reduced price perhaps not. However, i just built a 45650b for £1030 with all new parts, and i think it’s better specced than their off the peg sram x9 build.

    Thanks for the comments.

Havent had a chance to have a proper ride on it yet, but it rides well, and i dont think the increase in wheel size takes away playfulness, as its not a huge difference. The bigger wheel does roll slightly better, but again, i dont know if the difference is that big.

As for the front hose length, it cant really be much shorter and have a good entry into the caliper.
