I would agree, just use the hardtail. It will do all of the above.

I have the same stem and it was very easy to fit the clamp. But I have On One bars, so they may well not be quite the right diameter.

Apart from the obvious, what are your general thoughts on the Joystick bars?

I looked at doing this, but the handlebar would be too high. Passat estate.

Sorry, no offence intended. I didn’t look to see who had posted.

Was he not meaning the merlin deal, as in “the price on Merlin” for them?

Because they seem more expensive everywhere else

I have one, done about 20 miles on it.

Looks nicely made, teeth seem deeper than previous Raceface and Superstar rings I have used.

Early days, but no dropped chains. Then again I didn’t get any on the others.

Only reason I changed from Superstar is that their new Raptor rings seem to get very mixed reviews.

How i undertstand it from various forum posts, videos, tests etc is that for a plus tyre to be strong enough to stand up to the lower pressure and type of riding, then they become pretty darn heavy. If they ate not heavy, then the sidewalls are weak.

Have seen various posts on otjer forums where hardtail riders have switched back to more normal width tyres after not being impressed with plus for hard riding.

I would change to an Slx rear mech and XT shifter. Thats a better feeling combo imo as the shifter makes much more difference.

Sunrace Cassette is pretty good too, though i have the 10spd version.

Yeah the 2.4 Ardent is a totally different tyre to the 2.25 imo. Its not just the size, but as said its definitely got larger and deeper tread and seems pretty good in sloppy conditions for me. I have it paired with a High Roller 2 up front. Use it all year round no complaints.

@Oscillate Wildly i thought it may have been the bolts so fitted some with a lower profile head that sits below the level of the cage. No difference.

It seems secure enough, but it does/will annoy me.

Hard to show but you can see ot sits pointing up to the right.

Run of the mill because it’s run of the mill.

Nothing outstanding on it at all, and i think thats part of the reason you were called out so quickly on the weight claims.

Not full of helium like your bike then.

I know, that’s why I mentioned it having no pedals.

Seems bizarre the OPs scales make the bike weigh so little, but pedals weigh so much.

Having just gone from El Plastique to Nano X pedals, the difference is 100g.

Fit some plastic Nukeproof pedals to the Whyte, and save a few lbs. So I’ve heard anyway.

Yup, they add pounds to a bike, I’ve heard somewhere.

Best part of a lb though, which puts that closer to 28lbs.

    No pedals either.

Next mod would be new scales. I would be amazed if that weight anywhere near 26lbs

That’s a build up of pressure in the negative chamber.

People have had the rubbing with the stock wtb beeline tyre. So that’s the issue.

If you buy something new, as standard, it should work properly.

    Not alone.

Out on the mtb yesterday, only noise as I went along was my tyres on the dirt, and the mud and dirt beneath them. Although that was almost drowned out by my gasping for breath lol

I gave my opinion, and then some info. Dont want to know, dont ask.

    You’re welcome.

Exactly. They specced the bike with a tyre that stops it working properly, or is it the shock, or the shock mounts, i have lost track of all their explanations.

But if it doesnt work properly with the parts they specced, then to me that is the definition of not fit for purpose. It should be able to get full travel.

As for the price, and other companies having issues, that makes no difference.

It wasn’t 899 pound or whatever, advertised as not being able to get full travel and needing a different tyre was it.

    More money than sense IMO.

They reckon you need there chain ring to work with the eagle chain iirc.

Not sure I agree with the 45650b being unforgiving. You can get it to flex in the BB and chainstay area by applying the back brake and rocking the bike back and forward.

Mine was great, and it was only a move to full suspension that meant I parted ways.

Reviews state the BB is quite high anyway, so lowering it with 26″ wheels shouldn’t be an issue.

    Have you read the thread?

Lol. I wouldnt be accepting that explanation given all the other posts in this thread.

If i was an owner i would have my money back. Unfit for purpose.

    nairnster

Ah that could explain some of it. It didn’t seem to make much difference to anything. I haven’t figured out how you loosen the cinch straps back off though?

Well first ride impressions of the Camelback Palos.

It was a nice feeling to not have shoulder and sternum straps on, it definitely made me feel free-er in that respect.

I had already put it on in the house (although empty) and it felt very good.
Today it had a litre of water, a lightweight windproof and that’s it. It just doesn’t stay tight. The straps seem to constantly work loose and so it was soon sitting much lower and needed tightening. The cinch straps seem to have very little to no positive effect on this, no matter how hard I pulled on them.

Although the magnetic tube trap is a great idea, I found it impossible to relocate the tube whilst actually riding. This in turn made it impossible to drink whilst on the move as I was always left with the tube loose and unattached.

If I can come up with a way of stopping the waist strap loosening (I am thinking velcro) and can practice to attach the tube, or come up with a way of attaching it to my jersey/jacket then it may stay. At the moment I am 50/50. It’s got massive potential, but to me isn’t quite the finished article.

My advice would be to see if you can borrow one before buying. If I had had the chance, it would have saved me the money.

Yeah the hard is what i use on my full susser. I read somewhere that the chewy were quite flexy.

I was looking more at eliminating a little teail buzz, and the hard are definitely still more comfy than the alu bars they replaced.

    Struts are only 15mm rise.

The On Ones and Answers are 25mm so at least closer.

30mm is quite a high rise nowadays isnt it?

On One knuckleballs. In 747 length.

I got the hard and they are more comfy than the Kore Mega aluminium bars they replaced. Graphics i dont like though. I got them cheap at about £30 last year.

I think CRC have some Answer Pro Taper Carbon risers for about 55 at the moment.

Or probably £149 as well. Things never seem to translate to a straight exchange rate price ime.

I have done. As soon as it showed up as being at the depot, I rang them and asked and went and collected it. Have done it a couple of times with wheels and a bike.

Lucky enough to currently have both a pair of Teva Links and some Free rider ELCS.

Both are comfy, the 5.10 more so in my opinion. The 5.10s are definitely warmer, and paired with some dexshell waterproof socks are warm and keep my feet dry.
