I was ill on Sun/Mon/Tues (virus? weak, achy, headache etc)
Work has been the worst week ever (I’m in sales so that means very little income)
Kids really stressing mrsnacho out all week, so I was also getting a bit stroppy/stressed.
Went out on my bike with a couple of friends last night. Did a (small) gap jump (don’t normally do them) and a big (for me!) jump at a higher point that I have done it before. Could only pootle as I still wasn’t 100% but that ride made me feel sooooo good after such a rubbish week. I love riding my bike.

I have vaults and love them, grippiest flats ever and sooo comfy. Bit worried about the crack comments although I did a jump last night, one of the pedals smacked into a rock on the landing and it’s badly scratched but not cracked (just went into garage to check!)

OK thanks timmys, I have just done some googling and searching as I like the fact they go completely clear – would be nice to use them on night rides as well – do you mean like these? it says slight scratch on the lens though so not sure about these but I would ahve an idea what to look for…..

hi timmys – sorry I’m confused, there seem loads of Oakley models and I’m on a budget, do you know why they are better? What model should I be looking for? Or should I just go with what I’ve seen for VFM?

    Nice thread Phil!
    Mine are:
    1) Be a good husband and father and help my family lead a happy life
    2) Find a job that I enjoy and[/b] pays well at 45 years old!
    3) Ride a bike better

Most enjoyable thing – that’s difficult and most things I can think of have been posted. From: Marrying my wife. Seeing my kids born. Travelling the world for a year wihtout having to work.

£10 can go to NSPCC or similar.

Cheers binners, dead easy to set up even for my limited mechanics (add pedals, straigten bars) so it’ll be ready for when she get’s home. I want to ride it 😈

Well done TJ, sounds like it’s making you happy, I don’t always agree with your views but I hope you continue to post. Good luck.

Oh my!!! I was stupid enough to google blue waffles. I think I have to go for a ride now before I can eat again!

I find I eat loads more carbs when I ride. The days I don’t ride I tend to eat a lot less carbs. I’m fairly lucky as in so long as I exercise I maintain a steady weight (used to be around 12st 3lb – 12st 6lb but since cutting out on some carbs when not riding I’m now around 11st 9Lb-11st 12lb (I’m 5’11”))
Also don’t most athletes eat a lot of carbs? (Big pasta meal night before the race etc)

LOL, well I am pleased that the majority are if not exactly with me certainly don’t think they are rubbish. I now want to try some of the Scottish (7staines) trail centres at a later date (wife, kids and time permitting) The thought of 7 hours or so of driving for guaranteed quality riding without having to look too hard at the end of it does have it’s appeal.

LOL @ messiah. I couldn’t clear the Twrch trail climb!! The wet roots made sure I’ll have to go back another day and try again.

I ride 3-4 times a week all year if I can so no weekend warrior BUT I am rubbish at mapreading 🙂

rorschach – if I did that ride two or three times a week I would not be fat or obese unless I had an eating disorder!

MartinGT – I’m not fast and like riding in the woods 🙂 although I’m rubbish at wheelies! And we did overtake a few riders but were also overtaken by a couple of lycra missiles with no fitness issues I could see. I guess it could be boring if you rode it all the time (same as anywhere I guess)
I’m lucky enough to have ridden different places all over the world and I still cannot understand how someone who likes biking could not like those trails. But as you say, each to their own.

TJ – really good thread and very apt to our society now. Firstly I am a big believer in voluntary euthanasia. It has to be one part of the solution. I do not want to live in permanent pain or not knowing where I am and have the state spend thousands on keeping me alive (or robbing my children of their inheritance depending on my financial position in xx years) I haven’t read the report but intend to do so and don’t pretend to understand the finances. Have to go and eat now but will hopefully be back to read the thread and make a few comments later.
One thing though don’t talk to me about it being a middle class thing – what about the working class who have worked all their life to be able to pass things onto their children to get a better start. They will lsoe out whilst as normal the rich will not. Is means testing or paying a percentage of your inheritance a solution? Hope to read more soon…P.S Like some of the comments from amongst others Craigxxl, cougar, maycontainnuts sadmadalan and bermbandit 🙂

+1 what crankboy said if it’s upsetting your wife:
My personal suggestion is to make a copy of the letter for every neighbour you have. Personally visit each neighbour and have a low key chat, saying something to the effect that you have received the letter you are very concerned if they are upset or inconvenienced and you want to talk things through with them if they have any problems. That should give you some peace of mind and the poison pen author a sleepless night. If you do have a prime suspect I’d go to them last but hope they see you going to all the neighbours houses.

Surely we could be self sufficient if we all turned vegetarian? We wouldn’t have to grow mountains of feed to feed the cattle, I’m not sure of the statistics but I think you can feed five times as many people using land for growing vegetables as opposed to cattle. And the meat eaters can have rabbits and squirrels (no I’m not a veggie)
No idea what this has to do about women retiring though 😉

Perfect, thanks reggiegasket, have actually mailed Cy to confirm sizing! Won’t be ordering today Cy but mind is pretty much made up 🙂

    nacho

Thanks Cy, you have confirmed all that was said in a conversation I had with my LBS this morning – the revs @ 130mm (as they are now) will be more than enough and suit the bike. Thanks for the demo offer but I am down south – Devon – so no chance of getting up this weekend. I’m 5’11” so I’m guessing the 17.5″ will be more suited to me than 19″? (This advice also given by LBS today)

The probem is with buying a frame it’s not like you can test ride in the first place, you have to go off other peoples opinions and recommendations and I must admit that’s what pointed me in the direction of the Soul.

    nacho
    Free Member

Cotic’s website does say the new frame is certified up to 140mm. I have 140mm revs on my Heckler so might do a bit of fork swapping and go for the Soul 🙂

LOL @ davidtaylforth, no but I am a clumsy rider and bigger forks allow me to be even clumsier and not fall off 🙄

Mazda 6. Superb reliability. Bought mine @ 65K. Now done 135K. Can’t tell you what parts cost as it never needs anything apart from an annual service. And I can fit my bike in the boot without having to take the front wheel off 😆

I think if some of the stereotype comments on this thread had been made about black people the mods would have had to pull the thread as racist.

Hmm, thanks all, just got back form a wet ride! Looks like the Soul might not be the one as I do want to run at least 130mm and would like the option at least of running 150mm. Don’t fancy carbon so the 456 is a no go. Maybe I’ll start a “what hardtail frame” thread and see what idea’s the STW massive give me…..

    nacho

Thanks all, I was originally thinking of going Titanium but can’t justify the cost hence thinking of the Soul (recommended by LBS as an alternative option)
I’m quite happy to run the Rev’s @ 130mm and think the BeFe might be a bit too much for my riding – mostly local woods/trails, occasional trip to Quantocks, Dartmoor or S Wales trail centre. Think I might give Cotic a call……..
