Yunki – “I’ve always found that the mud, although prolific, is quite gentle on kit compared to other places too”
You serious? I thought Woodbury grit was world famous as a bike destroyer!

jasoncole drop me a mail, we normally have one or two group rides a week either Woodbury or Haldon (more Haldon red and blue in winter though – save trashing the trails)
Spongingmachine – Woodbury in the wet? The grit will destroy your bike and the bike will destroy a lot of the singletrack! Although we do ride the trails that don’t trash so easy it unless it’s proper swampy

Proflexforever. Haldon red and blue are pretty tame, there is more fun “off piste” stuff but you’ll probably want someone to show you round (and before it gets wet, we tend to ride mainly red and blue once it gets too wet otherwise the trails get ****ed)
I know Haldon and Woodbury (ride there every week) so ping me a mail and if I can I’ll show you round. There is some excellent riding on Dartmoor (and the Quantocks) but I don’t know it well enough to show anyone round……..

It seems they are all at it, Guardian, Goldman Sachs etc. There are obviously ways around these various loopholes that the government could introduce to make them pay tax although they are probably already in the pockets of these corporations anyway. If they did judging by the amounts not being paid (£6billion Vodaphone alone) it would sort out our countries debt in one go. Then we could afford decent investment in the countries infrastucture to cover some of the jobs lost by throwing (back to my earlier example) RBS etc out. Also if HSBC then decided to pay tax they would pick up RBS’s customers, staff etc and we are all happy.
It’s interesting seeing this debate from people who (sound like they) have more knowledge than me but no-one can alter the fact the working and middle classes are shat upon from a great height by whatever government is in power. Revolution anyone? 😈

Lunge – if that’s the reason why can’t we then chuck them out of the UK? If you pay no tax, fine **** off and you can’t trade here.
And RBS is government owned! Maybe if we threw them out for non payment HSBC might pay oop! I realise this will never happen unless we have a revolution but it’s a nice thought

    Very strange.
Must admit to being intrigued as to why she won’t allow it. And why you put up with it.
If my wife tried to stop me riding she’d be talking to the door as I would have hopped on the bike and pedalled off. But she wouldn’t because she loves me and knows how much I enjoy riding my bike. 😆
Advice – if you like riding your MTB tell her that’s what you’re gonna do. Then do it.

Thanks Fergal but I think riding alone in an area I don’t know with limited map reading skills might be asking for trouble, hopefully some kind locals might be along shortly…

oo er, this sounds good – I’m going for a weeks holiday to a place “halfway between Penrith and Keswick” 1st week October. Will be bringing a bke with me. (Not sure which yet) I’m rubbish with a map so was going to ride Whinlatter but if there are any of the STW massif locals that could show a slow(ish) southerner some proper northern trails I would really appreciate it (and I can return the favour of anyone comes down to Devon) 🙂

I don’t ride alone at night apart from easy fireroads. I convince myself it’s in case a fall off but maybe it’s because deep down I’m scared

+1 for Rev’s, great forks, light reliable and I think my riding is similar to yours. Have them on the Heckler and they were great with Switchbacks and their rocky terrain as well as all the typical UK stuff

Tend to prefer my FS so I can hammer the descents quicker so think I will (hopefully) go for that. I have just called (answerphone) and e-mailed Brechfa so will post up the reply when I get it

Fantastic weekend, my kids loved it and mrsnacho even did a lap of the XC course (she’s a roadie and doesn’t like riding through mud 😆 but she said she’ll come back and do it again next year!)
Beer was great and again we met some lovely people. Mattbee I think I was chatting with you at the prizgiving after they gave you your prize – the joystick – which I think cheered you up immensely.
We will definatley be back again next year, this time with maybe a few more friends. Thanks to Nick et al for organising a great event. I wonder how many people I spoke to that are on here but use their real not forum names!

Went last year and had a great time, got tickets yesterday for this years (Mrs Nacho dwouldn’t commit to going this year until weather was confirmed as not chucking it down) Just bought my little girl an Islabike so she’ll be putting it to good use this weekend I hope.

Thanks WCA, we came last year with the camper and had no issues (it’s small, a VW T4) – I’ll try contacting Avon Tyrell before booking though. Mrsnacho wouldn’t let me book until we saw the weather forecast (she is non biker, and was ill last year!!)
