Realman, a lot of if’s there, most I feel irrelevant to the debate (Stephen Hawkings?)
He is in a correct state of mind to make that decison. His family back him. Sorry I cannot see the rationale in your argument (but hey we are all different)
I’m sure he probably is depressed – I think I would be but that’s irrelevant in this case. The debate is not if you are depressed or not, it’s whether in the correct circumstances (or in this case a specific set of circumstances) you should have the right to die.

I ask you again – put yourself or a loved one in that position. Does your viewpoint still stand?

Realman – I never said terminally ill people are never depressed and don’t think I alluded to it, you are trying to twist words to justify your view.
Ref the guy who just lost the legal battle I’ll be honest not sure if it’s terminal but even if it’s not, a life of paralysis, pain, unable to look after yourself or a dignified end with the support of your family. Put yourself in his position and tell me you would want to carry on. I doubt it. Even then, if you can choose why shouldn’t he?

    Hi geetee1972
Re your first point – many medics are in favour of assisted suicide so I don’t think you will have trouble finding volunteers.
FYI I am against capital punishment.
With regards to the practicality of enshrining it in law I don’t have the legal knowledge to propose the best solution but I’m sure it could be done.
There are no moral issues (to me) based on my previous comments but if there are for you then we will have to agree to disagree. If it was legal that would cover the those issues.

Truly sorry to hear that unklehomered, me losing my aunt in a similar manner when she was practically begging to be put out of her misery has inevitably influenced my point of view.
RealMan we are not talking about depressed/suicidal people but terminally ill people in unimaginable pain who want it to end. Put yourself or a loved one in that position. Beyond my comprehension as to how society can allow it. Although I admit confirming how we know the decision is rational is another point of debate

geetee1972 – we are just playing with words, I think the two sentences have pretty much the same meaning and it seems to be understood by all so far.

6′ (well 5’11 and a bit) Ride a medium Whyte HT and a large SC Heckler. Tried the med Heckler and it felt too small, shortened the stem on the large and bingo! I think it depends on manufacturer, type of riding, stem and probably a few other things I haven’t thought of….

Surely moutain bikes are mean’t to withstand crashes? I crash probably once every 3-4 rides, if my bikes broke every time I crashed I’d be broke!! Gonna keep riding the Heckler complete with all it’s crash scrapes amd scratches!
I agree, technically it’s not warranty and although I understand the OP’s frustration for all SF know he could be trying it on, have ridden the bike loads, and hit a rock at 25mph. Shame they couldn’t reach an agreeable compromise as this thread won’t do much for Yeti’s reputation.

these guys are really good, they have a drop down menu telling you what extra’s are included etc. Try to get one with all the insurances included and not giving you a tank of fuel to return empty – we were charged €100 for €50 worth of petrol on a previous trip

    Has no-one netioned Robotron yet?
Gotta be the best shoot em up ever, no repetition, lots of fast action. No good with buttons though, you need two joysticks (I have one on an old PC built into an big arcade console in my garage, brilliant, just like playing the early 80’s original!)

Asteroids was pretty good as well

Well thanks all for your comments, I have to big up the NHS today!
I had to change two dates due to work commitments so I didn’t make it easy for them. I have an MRI scan and pre-op appointments next week then an op the following week. Superb service!!
I might even be fit for Jedi’s training session if I recover quick enough.
mikewsmith – they checked ligaments when I went to A & E, all OK 🙂

DavidB – £1800 is a bit much for me unfortunately. I might look at Rorschach’s advice, will wait to see how quickly they can get me in for a scan first though.
So to confirm – Rorschach did you get an initial private appointment with an orthopaedic surgeon and then he got you the op through the NHS 10 days later?

Thanks Tormy, yeah gutted I might lose all summer riding, was hoping to show you some fine Devonshitre trails this summer as well! The op is apparently an arthroscopy. If I can be back on the bike in 4-6 weeks that won’t be too bad (actually that’s a lie – less then 3 weeks in I’m going mad – it’s also how long I have to wait for the op that’s worrying!
    Devonshire trails that is 🙂

Thanks all, I’m also worried about how long I’ll have to wait until the surgery. Should hopefully hear about physio next week.

Proper excited about going as been wanting to for a few years. My missus bought me tickets and booked b & b for my birthday. Wicked eh? Supposed to be going up with a mate and taking bikes to ride in the area on Monday and Tuesday after the event. Then at a BBQ on Saturday turned round and b**ered me knee, can’t walk without crutches although it is slowly getting better. Praying I can at least go even if not ride (gutted as never ridden in that there Scotland, I ride the Devonshire hills) Will be gutted of I can’t ride and double gutted if I can’t even go 🙁 Apparently it’s a cartilage tear 🙁

teef – the amount of Americans (and others) that love the monarchy and come over here mainly due to our heritage is incredible and the commercial spin offs are vast. Whether they bring more in than they cost in I have no idea, which is one of the reasons why I’m not particularly pro or anti royalty. I do know less foreigners would visit and spend their bucks if we didn’t have them…….

trailmonkey – I’m “on the fence” regarding jubilee, royalty etc as I don’t really agree in principle but they do bring a lot of money in for the country. I am interested in the comments ref the top 1000 being able to clear the deficit and still be better off than 2008 – do you have any uaseful links to this info?

    thanks

So if I race my mates when we are out does it turn into a sport? Of course it’s a sport – we ahve a world cup and it’s at this years Olympics.
Not dangerous? TJ I often agree with you but in this instance you are talking out of your **** (or bored / trolling). Of course it’s dangerous. We may not ride like Steve Peat, Danny Hart etc but I bet most people on here have sustained injuries from their chosen pastime/sport? And if I didn’t wear a helmet I would have previously sustained some pretty serious injuries so there 😈 😀

Hi steve_b77, can you tell m what A2Z’s are or where to get them. Just used my last set of Elixir pads and would rather not pay for originals if I can get some decent OEM’s

    cheers

    No.
How much is much? Ride 3-4 times per week, normally around 2 hours ata go, difficult to get longer rides in with young family.
    Yes.

For a band definatley The Clash, I could then listen to a bit of reggae, funk, punk or rock n roll whenever I wanted.
Individual singer much more difficult, I think it would have to be Bowie, but that could change tomorrow……….

I must admit I have been told I’ve dropped a gel wrapper out of my pocket by someone following me so I do try to pick up the odd one I see on the trails as they can be accidental, but the BMX jumps area at Pines Ridge on Woodbury is terrible for litter, and it gets much worse in the summer holidays.

cheers prof, we will be driving up for the day but might stay at my brothers on the Friday night then do it early in the morning when it’s quiet then maybe drive up to FOD. Are you local? Is there much there apart from the oficial trails? My brother lives in Bristol, he doesn’t really ride but I think some of his mates might so I might try to get him to arrange a guide…..

Well, apparently the warranty was 5 years and I have owned mine 6 but the distributor have done me a good deal on a crash replacement for the new 905 frame. I do agree Dibbs I prefer the look of the older ones

I have followed this thread as I am a smoker (now ocassional). I am mid 40’s, professional and have a normal family life despite smoking for many years (a lot when I was younger)
I think there has been some misunderstanding on this thread mainly down to the word “analgesic”

TJ probably summed it up best when he said “so if you have a broken bone a painkiller will reduce the pain but a drug such as cannabis will not. If you have neuropathic pain then cannabis may reduce it. Cannabis may also reduce pain from spasm and may potenitate some analgesics. Also a feeling of well being engendered by cannabis may make you care less about the pain”

I have no doubt cannabis can cause mental health issues with some people. I have friends who stopped as it made them paranoid. Stopping smoking helped them so it does affect SOME people negatively. A good friend is a mental health nurse and many “patients” have used cannabis with negative effects (also alcohol and various prescription drugs are common sources of abuse)
However back to the OP. I hasten to add I have no medical experience so would get further advice before committing to anything however if his mother is suffering it MAYBE worth letting her try a very small amount to see if it helps, ideally sourced from someone you know and trust and before doing so I would research more from people with both views and away from a cycling forum known for people with strong opinions. 🙂
When my father had a bad back I gave him sone and it helped him.
Same as many things in this owrld, OK for some, not others.

Hmm, not as much as many on here but no commute (I intend to start some lunhctime jogs this year but can’t count them yet!)
    Winter – 20 mins of stretches/press ups etc weekday mornings = 100
    3 bike rides avarage 120 mins = 360
Add another 2 hours in the summer, more or longer day rides.
Plenty of running/dancing/fighting etc at the weekends (with my kids of course)
