Candodavid, nice offer thanks a lot, I'm in Exeter so pretty close. I'm not actually going till September (just excited as we booked today)
There seem loads on ther market so wanted a recommendation from people who had actually used theirs

Get it checked out, you really don't want to do your back in. Or try the NHS helpline, I reckon their knowledge / advice maybe better than your average STW'r (waits for resident STW osteopath / back expert to jump in)

LOL @ SFB, I'm still quite new on here and hadn't been pulled up yet, I had guessed it would be him or TJ first to spot any mistake I may make!

    Peter Poddy + 1.
I like football, great to play and entertaining to watch. I went to Exeter City v Leeds a couple of weeks ago. A couple of lads with northern accents were strolling up the street, suddenly some guy comes running at them, punches one of them in the head then shouts for his mates to get the northern wa**ers. If the police hadn't turned up sharpish they would have probably got a right beating. Too many neanderthals.

So sad that someone loses their life, and the driver has to live with the guilt for the rest of her life. I almost never cycle on the road unless I have to, too dangerous.
If one of my family was killed by a motorist I would probably want the culprit to pay as high a price as possible in my initial outrage.
If I hit a cyclist and killed them I don't know how I would cope and what effects it would have on my mental health. A jail sentence wouldn't make me think about it more or repent more, just have a massive impact on my family's life. Your view depends which side of the fence you sit!

Love the Orange 5 but I bought a Heckler in the end, couldn't decide between the two but my LBS is SC dealer so that swung it

sorry Maverickboy, one of my riding buddies has a 46 with the DUC's he loves the bike but can't wait to change the forks (he can't afford it at the mo) – maybe I should give his bike a try to see how the DUC's are. I'm not too technical and don't want to buy forks that might ruin the bikes handling / geometry. If the bike will take 150mm forks then I think revelations would be my choice based on experience

If they have approached you and you are interested explain that you want to consider it but can't afford the paycut. If they want you I would imagine they will soon find another 2K

I asked ATB and they recommended the new revelations but said 130mm, I thought they are 150mm? Hence thougth I would ask advice here

I don't think the Mavericks track well on singletrack compared to other bikes I've ridden. I'm sure DUC's would be overkill
Not sure of recommended travel, I guess around 130mm max

Puky bikes are pretty good, our LBS staff recommend them and it's what their kids ride http://www.pukybikes.co.uk/bicycle/index.htm

this thread has made great reading, all sorts of comments and thoughts here. So I gotta add something! I'm 43, never wanted kids until I met the wife (spent my life partying!) and even then was unsure (like SFB if I remember rightly)
Now have 2 kids, aged 1 & 2 years and one of each. Don't want more. But they are the best thing ever, and, you will only truly understand the joy (and yes stress, lack of sleep and frustration) they bring once you have them. I am now healthier than I ever was (less partying more biking) I'm not saying have / don't have kids, it's all down to choice but maybe don't be so keen to say "I'm not having any" until you are too old to anyway

cheers crazy-legs, I'm more XC based anyway so sounds good and my brother is coming – he's fit but doesn't ride his MTB loads – can you hire bikes? don't fancy taking mine over

wife beating is the odd one out. no one gets offended if you have a go at them.
