There are so many classics my choice changes constantly (IMHO they are the best band ever!) but if I had to vote today it is Train in Vain

I work from home. Live in an urban area. Don’t need a car to survive but life would be much more difficult without it. Try to minimise my carbon footprint but sometimes I am guilty of driving 4 miles to meet my friends for a ride. I have just read this thread and probably lost over an hour in productive work time. There is some vitriol on here. Most mountain bikers I meet get on really well. Not so here it seems! TJ – I am sure that we will find an alternative to oil (although I am no scientist) – if someone had told the avaerage person in the late 19th century man would visit the moon within a hundred years I’m sure they would have expressed similar disbelief to yours and our transport problems. Entertaining read thanks to all!!!!!

The Sun is a rotten comic, as many have said deliberatley stirring the racial tension issue. Also very true and relevant is that we don’t know the true story so we are all speculating. However if it was my duaghter under that car I’m not sure what my response would be but probably illegal. Whatever race the perpatrator was. I also think we have a pretty good justice system overall but in a society of 60 million there are bound to be wrongs. It must be so deeply sad if it’s you and you are affected like the father of that poor girl.

Oh, and certainly nowhere near Yellowstone National Park and that damned great volcanic caldera it’s sitting on.
    ^^^^^^
Count Zero, I wouldn’t worry about that, if that volcanoe goes and you are anywhere on the north american continent you can probably kiss this planet goodbye, even life this side of the pond might not survive

mudgueards are the sign of people who have sense and ride a lot.

Why have a wet arse and a mud spattered face when its not necessary?

I’m no expert but I believe that is how most people are enlisted to any “terrorist” organisation – e.g. You live in a remote impoverished area, are poor and have little worldly knowledge. Your wife and kids are killed by a misplaced bomb / a n other circumstance. You are shown a way of “revenge” against the perpetrators of murder against your family. You don’t have much to lose. What do you do????

If someone in your family/regiment/close circle of friends was tortured most people (me included) would want revenge. There’s probably a lot of people out there wanting revenge right now.

apparently we went to war on Saddam becuase of info received under torture regarding WMD. If they hadn’t tortured someone for this false info then we might be living quite in a different world. If you tortured me enough I’d probably confess to whatever heinious crime you accused me of.

yes I know, silly with hindsight, unfortunatley I had no idea and they told me the risks were the same just a bit of a difference in recovery time but if I wanted keyhole they had to rescedule. I had been waiting 5 months. I have just found a website where it seems quite a few people having the same issue as me

Jeez, thanks Austenb, I had the chance for keyhole and considered it but didn’t go for it as it was NHS and they would have had to reschedule the op and I didn’t want to wait another x months. If ever I have to again…………

These helmet threads are funny and great debate. PLenty of people glad they were wearing on in crashes. I have never met anyone say “so glad I wasn’t wearing a helmet, I avoided that rotational injury” (has anyone?)
I almost always wear one as I never know when I will come off and except maybe in the odd case it has to be reduce the risk of injury no matter what scientific report anyone can come up with. This convinced me though….. Cheers Josh

I don’t know the full details but my brothers ex did the same to him when they split, renewed contracts on 3 phones with Orange. He had to pay in the end to terminate the contracts. He didn’t go to the police as he decided it was easier to lose the money. He is very lax though and I’m not sure how thoroughly he went into it or whether he decided to pay rather than pursue through the legal process – there was a kid involved (another complicated story!)

“According to the official, engineers discovered that similar hardware failures had triggered a similar cascading failure 12 years ago at Minot AFB in North Dakota and Malmstrom AFB in Montana. That piece of hardware is the prime suspect”
Does that mean they have 12 year old computer hardware?

    Great post!
I have to meticulously check the ingredients of all the food I buy. Takes me AGES to go to the supermarket, my wife tries to do all the shopping!
When out riding I often have to ask my fellow riders if my backpack is zipped up as I kepp thinking I’ll lose my keys/phone/money. I ahve to stop and check if I’m out solo.
I’m sure I have more, let me think………..

BIG thanks to Flybe Exeter then – my bike (in the heavy bike case loaned from LBS) weighed nearly 40kg. The checkin girl told me it was over the health and safety limit of 30kg but after checking with her supervisor they let me take the bike and bag on as it was. (admittedly I ahvd paid them £30 each way 15 minutes earlier)
When we got back speaking to a mate he had the same issue with Thomson and he had to take the bike and case back to his van and strip it down as much as possible to get to their 32kg limit.

Damage was at the bottom of down tube on the underside of the frame. Must have hit a sharp rock, he’s got it covered on contents insurance so is happy as he’s getting a replacement frame

bit of both – life doesn’t stop when you have kids but it changes as you have different priorities (i e them)
I have 2 kids ( 3 & 2 yrs so not ready to go out with me yet but we do ride as a family – bike trailer & 3 year old rides part of way) I have an understanding wife & trails on my doorstep so can still ride 2-3 times a week for a couple of hours, approx one Sat/Sun for the day every 4-6 weeks and just got back from my annual trip away – 3 days riding in Spain. The right time to have kids is when you and your partner feel ready, everything else slots in around them
