Today, this one with writing that might be too teeny to read:

    Cheers Stuart.

Someone, somewhere manufactures this part, and several keyring manufacturers order them. If the STW hivemind can’t name it though, it must be an obscure secret.

I don’t think I know anyone who turns up on a clean bike.

You’d be surprised what’s visible from Pendle Hill.

Great ride fellas. This is the first ride I’ve been on that had Gaz, Daz and Baz. I only got a few images, but spectacular fireworks courtesy of Baz:

Did that chap point it the wrong way?

I might just get a last minute firework delivery from a housemate.

The plan is to all attach them to our bikes, right? Is anyone bringing a gopro?

I failed to get any fireworks, but should have a lift and be there.

    IMAX can vary massively.

My first time seeing IMAX was with one of the Matrix sequels on an 8 storey tall screen. It didn’t matter that the film was bobbins, it was aesthetically amazing and even sitting in the middle halfway back, I had to turn my head to follow the action in some shots.

The second time was the grand unveiling of the first IMAX screen in Nottingham, which turned out to only be as wide as the other was tall. They’d hyped it to **** and I actually laughed out loud as I walked in. It was only a tad bigger than one of the regular screens in the same cinema.

Gah. Someone mentioned mobile signal is bad to non-existent there. Almost no one talking about it on twitter or facebook, just an update from No Fuss saying the results at that link should be live.

I suppose this means I can do something useful instead of sitting refreshing the page ¯\_(?)_/¯

I was assuming it hadn’t started yet, but can’t find a schedule anywhere.

Get a specialist. Even if the trailer will take the weight, lifting a 750Kg lathe in and out of it without a crane is going to be a colossal pain.

Fitted a set of square taper cranks in the car park before a night ride. Did the crank bolts up and carefully torqued them. Then realised I’d put them on at 90′ not 180′.

Did that just before a commute with some octalink ones once. Was already late before I fixed it :D

I had one of these generic ones that a lot of brands seem to sell, and I’d recommend against it. Not very stable, and the ABS ratchet on the head doesn’t withstand any pedalling or braking forces well without the bike dropping. Indexing gears on it was a total pain in the balls.

I’ve used Park and Cyclo ones since and they’re much better.

Years ago on a descent, the steering suddenly felt unresponsive, and then the front brake didn’t work either. Expecting a painful faceplant, I went into a bush, OTB, and rolled onto my feet without a scratch. Front QR had come undone.

Ooh yeah, I used to use a tablesaw without any guards on it.

@ nach. You look younger than i though you would. Moisturise?

It was the blood pact that they told me not to do. As a result, I have a condition known as extreme brand disloyalty.

The actual current front runner for hoverboard looks like something Doc would have made in 1955:

I might have to stop occasionally to eject snotballs into the bushes, but as long as I have a lift, I’m in.

They’ll fall into the same category as Segways and “hoverboards“.

What’s up with Bearclaw I wonder, he was on Twitter a few days before build week asking for diggers – his whole crew quit on him.

Dirty tricks from a jilted bike company? :D

I’ve only explored Marin, years ago, but was since advised to head to Santa Cruz. If you’re in the city, it doesn’t take long to ride over the bridge and find trails though.

There’s also some XC-ish looking stuff on Mt. Sutro and a place nearby renting bikes.

Good quality notebooks that aren’t saturated with branding.

USB keys are always useful, unless they’re horribly slow, in which case they’re occasionally useful.

Stickers go straight in the bin unless they’re really beautiful ones, likewise pamphlets, catalogues, flyers and all the other guff that gets stuffed in conference bags: in the first bin I see after registration rather than carry it round for the week.

Do you have one of those inner tube mud shields between your fork brace to the crown? When I used to do that, landings would compress it then make a really loud buzz as the wheel tried to pull it under the brace.
