Assuming this does go ahead, in practice everything would change ahead of that date. With other countries following a similar line, which manufacturer is going to continue developing and building cars up to the deadline if the market for them is going to disappear?

And while there may be alternatives to fossil fuel for personal transport, it will be interesting to see what options develop for shipping (return to sails?) and aircraft (would require great advances in batteries power to weight and capacity)

Most memorable ones I remember seeing around Edinburgh:

B15 EXY on a pink Fiat Panda – My almost teenage son thought it was an encouragement to ‘be sexy’

S70 LEN on a pimped out Black Audi TT

Sea animal could be loads of things, but conga eel unlikely as its a conger eel. Manta Ray or Moray Eel more likely

Large fish could also be other things just as likely as Grouper – halibut? Need to know other letters to decide

F*** me. I’m in my fifties and I’m preferring Dizzee Rascal on BBC4 to the dreary whining and self-indulgent crap that Radiohead are churning their way through on BBC2

Same happened at Mrs M’s work 2 weeks ago. Her exit down the stairs (from the 2nd floor) was blocked by a colleague hurrying UP the stairs to get back to the office to get her coat and bag because it ‘looked like it might rain’. 8O Mrs M’s comments that this was not on and was outrageous were ignored. Made for a frosty atmosphere in the office that afternoon.

Perchy – I did my back lifting dog into the car because she had a knee problem and didn’t want her to exacerbate it. These things always happen when you least expect it!

I feel your pain Northwind. I have same in hip and leg after acute back injury. I find keeping moving helps: running and cycling are no problem all day, but after 1 day sitting in the office it’s back, and by end of a week in office it’s worse. Has definitely lessened over last 6 weeks ( happened at Easter) so hoping it continues to abate.
Either that or I’ll give up my job and ride all day everyday :?

I knew I was going to find it tougher than last year, as less fit, but the heat was where this really showed up. Got 7 solo laps in last year, only managed 6 this year. Every time I was in the sun, I wilted, then felt so much better in the cooler areas, except on lap 5 when I seriously considered chucking it in. Reconciled myself at that point to just go for 6, and then just relaxed and enjoyed riding and chatting. Made it back before the close out for final lap, but knew I’d never make it so called it a day.
Next year I will be fitter!

Al, the field beyond the carpark is usually given over to parking for the event, with a non-negotiable charge (£3, I think). There will be marshalls directing – you can’t go wrong!

First descent is steep and a bit rooty with a few line choices and a LH turn at the bottom. It’s not really hard, but once someone stops in the intial rush, its difficult for them to get going again or for others to get past them, people start to back up on the fire road and then everyone’s waiting. Once everyone is a bit more strung out after first lap, then it’s not an issue

I’m soloing again. Not as well prepared as previous years due to a combination of things. Got the stamina, but no speed, so making it up to the start of love tunnel before the bottleneck is in full swing feels improbable. Will maybe just have my breakfast at the cake stop there while I’m waiting :-)

Thenorthwind – no, did 75km as usual. Not that fast (6.48) but wasn’t looking to race, just a nice big day out :? How did you do? Would have been tough on a rigid!!

I remember years ago in the US when an irate local was ranting at the front desk of a major hotel chain about paying his bill because they had added on a charge for tips to all his additions.
“Yes sir, there is a statement on all the receipts you signed explaining there would be a charge added automatically that you paid at checkout”.
After much grumbling he agreed to pay, then paused and asked what the tip % was. They told him 15%. After some muttering and calculating he said “But you have added on more than 15%!” The answer just about sent him into orbit:
“Yes sir, that’s because we add tax on to the 15%, otherwise our staff would have to pay tax out of the 15% themselves”

Success. I hadn’t fully understood the terminology that the more electrically competent were using, but once I thought it through overnight I got it figured out and all working now using Davosaurus’s second suggestion in his original post. Thanks to Davosaurus and Snaps :)

Thanks, Dave, I’d realised that and disconnected the neutral at the switch after I thought about it.

Ah…… So no way to get any juice to the piggy back switch from that end of the 2 way circuit when the switch is off? Would taking the bridge from other than COM on switch 1 solve the problem?

Edit: I’d figured that about the neutral after posting and had disconnected it

Erm…. Thought I had got it, but the new light on the one way switch only works when the light on the two way switch is on. I’m obviously doing something wrong. When I try other combos, the circuit breaker trips, so just to recap I have a 2 gang-2-way switch.

Switch 1 is an existing 2 way circuit in the garage. Red wire to COM, Blue to L1, Yellow to L2. Everything on that switch works fine with the other switch on the 2 way circuit.

I’ve added new light to run off Switch 2 on the 2 gang circuit. I’ve taken a neutral off the the garage light and joinsed this into the neutral wire from the exterior light. And then taken that neutral to Switch 2, where I have a live and an earth.

EDIT as I had description wrong! I bridged a wire from COM on switch 1 to L1 on switch 2, then put my brown from live to COM on switch 2 and the Neutral blue wire to L2. The outside light on switch 2 works, but only when switch 1 is on. When switch 1 is off, the outside light is off regardless of switch position.

I’ve obviously got something wrong! Either my bridge wire is to the wrong port on switch 2 or my live and neutral wires are in the wrong place. Can Davosaurus or anyone else tell me what wires should go where in Switch 2?

    Thanks!
