Trailrat – prefer quality at good price! So based on that, does everyone still run with their recommendations?

OK, thanks guys – seems like its unanimous. That’s kind of what I thought to start with then I started thinking about it too much and wondered if the lower point to attachment would affect the leverage or weight distribution when climbing. That’ll teach me!

Getting back on topic it must be obvious whatever the eventual result, the union is deeply divided
Isn’t it Scotland which is deeply divided?

No – almost every NO Voter I have spoken to has a varying degrees of sympathy with the Yes Camp, but there’s just a nervousness about goign the whole way. If/when yes wins, they will accept it. Of course there are Nos that are more polarised, but much less than might be interpreted from the 50/50 position

Well I ordered the converter in DezB’s link and…. it works :-)

    Thanks, guys

I saw that comment, atp, but its at odds with what the seller said. Maybe give it a go anyway…

Hmmm, was going to take a punt on the link suggested by DezB since at <£13 it seemed worth a shot, but first I asked seller’s opinion. The reply was

‘Thanks for interested in our items. We are afraid that this item can’t meet your requirement. Any other questions, please feel free to contact us.’

So guess that puts me into the territory of the more expensive options such as ekul’s CPC suggestion

Ah, thanks Jamabalaya. Its not an HD TV, so I guess I’m not missing anything by converting the HDMI signal that I wouldn’t be getting anyway?

Yep, pretty sure it doesn’t WackoAK – its a Panasonic Viera TX-26LXD1. I’m intrigued by the link from DezB – anyone got any experience of these?

Bummer – I’m not too technical about these things – what do you mean when you say if the TV is less than 720?

My view on mid-life: life begins at forty, life expectancy 80(ish), therefore mid-life = 60. You’re barely half way there!! get out and enjoy it

Good call, Bails! :-) (almost… ) I’ve got some X-9s on another bike and the X7s are slightly different in that the top of the shifter pod is a one piece plastic affair. Tightening the hex bolt a little has meant that I can actually change down now, but I can’t tighten the bolt beyond a certain level – it just spins. Also, although I can change down, the lever is clipping the upshift lever, so it really looks like something has gone inside and its not pivoting in the correct plane. But at least I can use it until replacement which I’ll order later arrives. Then I might take it apart to understand what failed

Thread resurrection! Superficial – did you replace the other bearings in your ASR5? If so, what did you use to get them out and in again?

Well done northwind, glad you got that last one in, :-) I dithered about it and decided I probably wouldn’t make it. Now I’m glad I didn’t as I feel bad enough! Was a great course – first ride this year where my bike was covered in …. DUST 8O ( well and some mud)

Looks like your weight is going to be pretty far back – should be easy to wheelie 8O – or is it just the angle of the pic?

When did Hope change from plastic to metal spacers for the stainless steel BBs? I have one on my bike but can’t check it until much later

Hmmm N+1 woes…. Was enthusiastic about the Singular Rooster, talked it over with OH and went for it. Everything ok for a few days until… ‘So which one of your bikes are you getting rid of to make space for this? You could sell X AND Y….’ Explanations that all of them are actually needed have been met with sceptical silence so far :(

Thrustyjust – bearings are smooth and no play.

JAG – It does sound like resonance doesn’t it? I seem to remember reading somewhere that just about everything will resonate at some frequency and I might just be a unlucky that this is happening at about 20 mph when on the trainer. But I’ve never had it on the road. Is it a common phenomenon on turbos?

XC-Steve – already doing that – problem is I can hear it way above what I’m listeing to AND feel the vibration. So can my wife, 2 rooms away when it kicks in! (cue nsfw comments….)

Cheers TJ – its not listed as one of the grounds for appeal and def no break in lane. I was keen to receommend appeal, but it has the disincentive of automatically forfeiting the right to the 50% reduction in penalty if paid promptly and without arguing.

Thanks, Druidh. They’re not my tickets! But the point is you have to enter the bus lane to turn left and there is a camera just before the junction. A left turn is perfecxtly legal, so the question is how close do you have to be to a junction to safely enter a buslane to turn out of it again?

    myopic

Slight thread hi-jack/resurrection! It seems first tickets have been issued for cars using the bus lanes today. Or not just using them – being in them. A friend of mine (genuine – not a euphemism for me!) has received 4 tickets for being in a bus lane just before a left turn to her street – no other traffic in the lane so no hold up for anyone. The bus lane doesn’t break as it goes past the street entrance, so you have to enter it or at least cross it to access the street. Is there a minimum distance before a LH turn that you can enter a bus lane for – or do you leave it to the last minute and turn across it at right angles?

Inflate the tube to pressure in the tyre, on the wheel and stick the whole lot in your pond? It won’t show you where any leak might be coming from the tube itslef, but you will see if the valve is faulty

    myopic
    Free Member

Its probably the valve – the lower pressures you will be using to check the tube off the bike should reveal holes in the inner tube, but may not be high enough to reveal faulty valve issues

Coming back to an issue Druidh raised inthe orginal post, the car parking charges proposal has just been scrapped. See here:

I read that the Fairmilehead Inn was under new ownership and was going to be developed as an outdoor centre for the Pentlands. Wouldn’t harm the MTB cause but a strange choice given its location on the other side of the bypass.

I also heard a rumour that the guy who owns Lothianburn golf course was looking at developing it for MTB riding, which if true would make the Hillend option a much more viable proposition.

ps, I mean the squishy stuff that’s a bit like pipe insulation – not the hard stuff you would get in electrical good packaing. I got a few bits and pieces in the packaging for an on-line bike delivery as protection for the frame and they are ideal for the job.

I put a bit of polystyrene foam with a cut away for the cables in place before i clamp it up. Works for me :)

Right hand one, on the right, above the bars. No problems until crash last weekend where I bent the barb insert just where it screws into the control. Still works fine and could have happened jsut as easily if it had been on the left under the bars as that bit would be sticking out the front whatever.

I’ve never had a problem with them – touch wood. Last order was a frame on Friday and it arrived today :)
My first thought was maybe its a location issue, but doesn’t look like it from people’s comments
