Northwind – so no chance of squeezing past you on any narrow single track then!

NW- I think I cleared first root, but after that it was a calamity (as I expected). Got a lump of mud in my eye on the top section just before I passed you, not that it made much difference!

Just happy to have finished all the stage in 1 piece :)

Big thanks to all the marshalls and folks working on all of the support areas :D

I started out late for practice on stages 4-7 yesterday (17.00). Noted the happy campers who had finished their practice with bikes looking like they had just come out of the garage and not a speck of mud on their tops. By the time I got to Stage 6 it had been chucking it down for at least half an hour – it was very slippery in places. Once I had ridden Stage 7, my bike looked like it did after Vallelujah this year.

Hopefully with it having been so dry, everything will have dried out again over night!

Read through this thread yesterday, thought ‘nothing I can really post on this’. That should have been enough to set alarms bells ringing.

Extracting some chains from a tub of Putoline this afternoon, I managed to tip the whole tin over. I imagine I will be a social outcast in my street as a result of the expletives that erupted. I even surprised myself with some of them. 2 good things about it – (a) it went away from me, so none on my clothes or shoes (b) it was in the garage, not the kitchen….

Now to clean up. I’ve left it to harden and think it will come up with a scraper, then maybe scrub the area with paraffin. Planning to melt it in another container and transfer back to the tin without the assorted rubbish off the garage floor. What could possibly go wrong?

Well if it’s 60psi in the tyre, there’s 60 psi in the cartridge. When you take it off, it’s got to go somewhere!

    Edit: Doh, too slow!

^^^ avdave2: I had forgotten about it, until I saw your post. I found the Singing Ringing tree terrifying as a child. Over 50 years later I still remember some scenes vividly – never realised it was in colour though! BW telly until about 75 in our house

    Moi.

No rain for the next 10 days is quite feasible, but then expect a deluge of biblical proportion before the event itself kicks off.

thestabiliser – just thought of a reason why a Bionicon type guide wouldn’t work. I’d need one for the upper chain line as well as the lower one. Plus having looked at it, it moves with the chain to preserve the chain line and so it wouldn’t make any difference to the rubbing.

thestabiliser – that’s an interesting one which I hadn’t thought of. Wouldn’t that mess up the chain line at both ends by making some of the lines relatively to the front rings and rear sprockets more acute? Or affect front shifting?

ScotRoutes – its a new SLX double, sitting in an EBB. I don’t have an option to space it out further on the DS which is what is needed as I would then lose space to fit the NDS crank. I could slide the EBB out a few mm, but that doesn’t appeal as it would leave the EBB sticking out on one side and sitting inside the BB shell on the other.

CP – I thought about that, but I haven’t taken the cassette off yet to see if either cog would sit in behind the cassette. I’m not sure it would, I think the spider steps in to the cassette and the 13t would foul on the arms of the spider and stop it sitting down at the right height.

Wouldn’t be an issue with narrower tyres and everything would line up fine, but I want to run the 29+ as I am really enjoying them.

Many years ago, I met my neighbour coming out of her house having not seen her for a few months. Glancing at her bump, I opened my big mouth and heard myself saying ‘Oh, congratulations, another one on the way! When’s it due?’ She glared at me and said through gritted teeth – ‘I’m not pregnant….’. Never spoke to me again.
To this day, I will never ask anyone who looks like they might be expecting ANYTHING about it until they bring it up, even if they look just about to drop

At times the Peel had odd trading views. I was out on a road ride one Sunday morning with some mates. Stopped at the Peel for breakfast to find it locked, but guys wandering round inside chatting. I tapped the window and asked if we could come in ‘Sorry mate, we don’t open for another 5 minutes’ It was chucking it down and we were freezing, I asked ‘can’t we just come in and wait til you’re open?’. Reply ‘Nope, if we do that there will be loads of people wanting in’

We headed off to Innerleithen after that.

My parents NEVER swear – not even ‘bloody’ which I don’t think is even a swear word nowadays. I’ll never forget the day his Gran asked my then 8 year old son how he had got on at Rugby training that morning.
Him: Great thanks, we finished up early and so we just played ‘Hunt the C***’ for a while.
I’d never heard him saying anything like it and almost choked. Hoping she would miss it (she’s a bit deaf), I let it go
    Her: Pardon?
Him: we finished up early and so we just played ‘Hunt the C***’
Her: How do you play that?
Him: Well one of you is the C*** and he hides. The rest have to find him. That’s why its called Hunt the C***
Her: Oh, a bit like Hide-and-seek? What did you say it was called again?
    Him: Hunt the C***
Her: (paling) DID YOU JUST SAY THE C-word?
Him: No! What’s the C-word? (pauses) You mean C***?
    Her: Yes, stop saying it!.
Him: well you asked what I was doing this morning.

I have a good nose (I’m a chemist) so could pick up the odour in the kitchen after it broke, despite the hops. Definitely not ethanol (and I knew it wasn’t mercury! ;) ) Other option was paraffin, which I was wild about drinking but its such a tiny amount and I think its probably trapped in the filtrate that I’ve gone ahead.

Will play it safe and let Mrs M try it first when it comes round to drinking

A rather ignominious first post on the brewing thread :(

Brewed up a gallon of IPA today, my second ever batch. Mashed in OK, mashed out OK, Sparge fine, did the boil, added the hops, put the brew pot in ice bath to cool and when I went to check the temperature, noticed weird reading. Then noticed that this was because the thermometer had broken. It had broken before I put it into the brew, so hardly any contamination – maybe one small drop of red dye on the surface. Filtering it into the demijohn seems to have removed it.

    2 questions:
    1. worth carrying on, or bin the lot? I can’t smell it off the mix that is in the demijohn (see below).
    2. Answer to 1 may depend what it was. It was a food thermometer, but I’m unsure what the fluid is (or was..). I don’t think it was ethanol as it floated in top of the water and had a slight smell, reminiscent of paraffin.

So advice please. Many thanks :)

Anyone running a Mudhugger on a frame with brake cable running down the seat stay? Interested in one as I’m sick of getting soaked, but the brake cable runs all the way down the upper surface of the NDS seat stay, plus there are 3 bosses for C clips

Serious answer then, find out what they are taking so you can cover a different region (eg Speyside, Island, Lowland, etc), or conversely all take something different from the same region)

Gave my 3 year old a bag of 12 toilet rolls. Told him to put 2 in the downstairs toilet and the rest in the upstairs one. After discovering his literal interpretation in the downstairs toilet some 10 minutes later, I realised why he was still so busy upstairs… ‘Dad, I can’t get them all in’

Sainsbury’s here. Used to have M&S, but the Sainsbury’s deal was better as it covered conditions for future years after they happen. Some only cover for the year it’s found and then won’t renew. Something to think about!

Thanks for the feedback Xora. Bearing in mind I need security for my business, what would you recommend in place of macafee? Or just sit tight if I have never had major problems?

Success! Mrs M found a solution on the Internet. Apparently problems with sending Emails is a known problem with Windows 10, and the fix was easy. Details here for anyone who is interested: http://www.msoutlook.info/question/cannot-send-after-windows-10-upgrade

Didn’t need to uninstall or switch off Macafee or anything. Incidentally, why are so many people anti macafee? It came with my new PC for a month, but I have a subscription anyway to cover all our PCs at home.
