If they work well, they definitely seem to make the job simpler. That e-bay one is identical to the one that I had in my first link above :)

That letter from Tomlinson to Tusk has a significant typo in it – on the list of named Parliamentarians it lists “Iain Ducan Smith”. He must have read it really carefully

Now I’ve had a look at it on a bigger screen I’m guessing south side of Hare Hill looking south?

Looks chilly, Lightman. Where was the picture taken from?

Sorry Steven, I’m normally up for riding Wednesday evenings, but giving blood after work today.

I’m in again. Registered last week on the day entries opened and was surprised at the number of entrants already in there!

Pentlands are where it’s at now thanks to Danny Macaskill, it’ll be knee deep on the trails!

You’re not joking Ian, It was hoaching up there last night! Sadly no-one around when I passed the old cottage at the bottom end of Loganlea, so had to forego my planned attempt at a front flip off the roof.

There was one big group (10-12 riders) at Harlaw who looked to be setting off at about 19.00. Anyone know who they were, or if that’s a regular thing?

Bumping myself up to definite. Bonaly shop at 18.30. Anyone else?

Thanks, cannyj. I did that. Turns out consumable parts are only warrantied for 1 year. Nevertheless they were very helpful and took me through a few things. Looks like our water supply could be too hot, which would shut down the hot via anti-scald. Therefore going to try with less hot water and see if that does the trick.

With. The first bite where you suddenly realise there’s no butter is like biting into a steak pie and discovering it’s a steak and kidney pie :x

Ah well, I’ll head out early then since it’s a nice night and I’ve given up with work for the day. Hope the child illness is minor, Jimmy, and non-contagious!

Anybody up for Pentlands tomorrow evening? I’m in, barring unforeseen work developments!

Mostly low, but was up top of Exponential, Maidens and the saddle between Capelaw and Allermuir. Windiest part was going round the side of Capelaw.

Well…. that was a bit wet! Also quite windy – but surprisingly mild :)

I’m currently in, Bonaly shop at 18.30. Forecast was looking a bit grim but the worst of the rain and high winds seems to be moving to later in the evening.

Seriously, Ian, I’d get it checked. The potential long term consequences of missing it are not good.

Ian, have you had it x-rayed to make sure it’s not broken? Easy to confuse with a sprain, which I know from bitter experience. Don’t imagine that it’s not broken because you can do most things without a significant degree of discomfort

Alec, that’s really shit news. Hope it’s salvageable – at least in significant parts?

As Mike said, Rob showed us round some of the trails round Bonaly and Torphin. I hadn’t ridden any of them before, so it was nice to see something new :-) thanks, Rob

Jimmy, you must have got through Maidens when it was still dry. It’ll be quite different now!

Should be up for next week

Jimmy, Steven was talking about doing the Arthur’s Seat ride on Thursday, not Wednesday – or have I misunderstood one, other or both of you?

I’m free on Wednesday at the moment.

Where are you thinking of riding from the Commie, Steven? Bit of HR park, Duddingston, over Craigmillar way?

I definitely can’t make it this week. Picked up a stinker of a cold on holiday over weekend :( Hope to be there next week!

Jimmy, I will be at Bonaly Shop for 18.30. If you guys think you might be there earlier drop a line here. I will try and get there a bit early anyway. In the event something unforeseen happens and I’m not there by 18.30, please don’t waste time hanging about for me

Jimmy, if I come, I’ll be on a rigid. I know I can cope fine with the Pentlands ends of things, but how would it be over on the Roslin/Auchendinny side of the loop you are talking about? If its more extreme, I’ll find time tomorrow to sort out something more bouncy

They are a bugger to get off, Bob. I snapped an 8mm Allen key doing mine last year. Then I got an ear-splitting crack when it did come loose. It was an anxious few moments while I checked it had actually come loose or something more unpleasant had happened!

I think a part of the original issue was that there was an issue with them capturing people’s faces when taken front on. Recording images without consent was seen as invasion of Civil Liberties kind of thing, so that was why the GATSOs switch to only taking picture from rear and hence the complications about establishing who was driving at the time etc. To capture phone use, images would need to be captured from the front, which would re-visit this problem.

Personally I have no issue with any kind of recording if it helps reduce the number of offenders with phones or, my pet hate, multiple cars piling through after lights turn red :x
