The only reason I have my TV is for You've been framed and TV Burp! Best hour of the week!

That is very sad. I think you need to expand your horizons a little. What about the Simpsons at 6 mon-fri and double bill on Sunday? 😆

I get very upset if I miss YBF, truly intelligent television.

Last 5 years: doing a PhD and getting a job I like doing, which is better paid than being a spannermonkey in a bike shop! Then getting married (2007), but most importantly the birth of my little girl 5 months ago. I never saw myself as being a 'natural' dad – but I think I might be. Riding opportunities are now limited but keeping the commute up!

if you want to eat lips and arsehole5 for lunch, that is fine by me.

That's after the fish n chips if you play your cards right with the missus 😆

On a serious note, I now don't know whether to stick with the original curry plan, or whether to live life in the fast lane and just go for fish n chips. Decisions decisions…

My approach would be to think someting like this:

    'hmmm, those potatoes need using'

then a little while later, after a cup of tea perhaps:

    'I think I'll cook them'

Sounds fantastic. I'd rather eat something more interesting than a plate of potatoes thanks. [/quote]

Who said anything about a plate? I live life in the fast lane I thought I made that clear? 😆

I have a blase approach to shopping, and life in general. Seems to work.

My approach would be to think someting like this:

    'hmmm, those potatoes need using'

then a little while later, after a cup of tea perhaps:

    'I think I'll cook them'

That way food doesn't go to waste in my house either.

I'm with nicko74 and coffeeking here.

If I had my meals planned out for the rest of my life I think I'd probably kill myself. Maybe a little extreme but hey ho. Glad it works for you though!

Derby isn't great if you don't drive, especially t'Southside.

Get your OS map out! It's pretty easy to ride out to proper hills and singletrack without really touching roads! My folks live in Hayfield (edge of the Peak District), and admittedly Derby isn't quite up to Peak District standards, but I spent a few years in Derby and soon had plenty of decent routes sussed.

I work in academia where it's pretty much the norm. You don't have to – but you can bet that everyone else will – so they'll have the papers published, the funding coming in etc… If I did 9-5 I'd be screwed. That said, it's still fairly fleixble – i can choose when to work too many hours!

My one time best mate hasn't spoken to me since I had a daughter 5 months ago. He has admitted that he's jealous of my life in the past (married with a kid and an ok job – great!). It's upset me quite a bit.

Thing is I worked damn hard to get out of a bit of a hole. I went to uni, met a lady who I married, did a phd and got a job, then had a child. During that whole time I was very envious of his carefree lifestyle, what with all the pubs, bikes and gigs etc.

Get over yourself and sort it out before it's too late.

Any update on this? I put the bins out again yesterday, in hope, but to no avail. It's been a while now! I'm in Otley.

I don't thin the monitors will reassure her – I think they will increase anxiety due to the continual false alarms you get from them. answering the wrong question IMO

Utter bollocks – we have not had one false alarm from ours. And yes it does work, I've experimented!

Our 4.5 month old went into her own room after 2 weeks, we use one of these monitors – she's at the stage where she's just starting to roll over – but often ends up face down and can't move when she does – i'd rather know if she did suffocate than find out in the morning. Anything wrong with that?!

Peaks are utterley pointless full stop. How do you think roadies survive without peaks? Just a fashion thing for those chained to the marketing mans will.. be a man (or woman) and burn your peak today! I haven't used one for 10 years and have never felt better!

I've not been riding over there for a while now unfortunately…

Nothing today. Despite being 32 years of age I often forget to make my sandwiches, or bring any food in. I also forgot underpants and socks today, so wearing very thick sealskinz under normal shoes, and going commando.

A few years back I phoned a company for feedback on an assessment centre interview I had failed to get past.

HR person: "is is fair to say you don't always think outside of the box?"
    Me: "what box?"
HR person: "Er, you know, the box where everyone thinks the same"
    Me: "I don't think so".
HR: "We couldn't identify where you were thinking outside the box"
Me: "oh, you mean I don't think within your particular box?"
HR: "I think we should move forward"
    Me: "ok, bye".

Interested to hear the outcome Hugo. i just went for AA insurance. Bikes over £1500 require an additional premium, all should be insured outside and away from home as long as locked to an inmovable object.

At least as far as I could make out from the first set of volumes of information that they sent me.

I was hoping you wouldn't be clipped in but you are. Do you know what it's like to be technically retarded and watch that?

Much harder not clipped in I'd say! You'd be bouncing all over the place. Unless you stopped and put your seat right down, which isn't really the point with cross bikes/normal riding (at least for somebody stuck in the past such as me!) 😆

I used Fox Float 130s on my ASR-sl but I like the slightly slacker head angle..
Rode cross races, high speed drop-offs (up to 5 ft) at ski centres in Norway – enough to buzz the tyre on the fork crown…. Did everything with ease and the head tube remained connected!

If we're talking about mountain bikes: Idrive is no where near one of the oldest. I think Boulder had a design in 1990, GT's RTS-1 came out in 1992(?), Proflex were going for it from 1990 onwards, Mountain Goat in 1991, Manitou about the same time. Mantis pro-floater was about 91/92. There are probably a bunch of others. Also AMP Research must've been 91/92? I thought Turner started pre-1994?
Sorry bit of a pre-coffee stream of consciousness there 😆

I thought the glaringly obvious omission from your mostly English top 10 was Sham 69. but you're right, the Buzzocks, from my home town too. They can displace the Circle Jerks on my list. 😆

    Black Flag
    Misfits
    Adolescents
    Circle Jerks
    TSOL
    Dead Kennedys
    Discharge
    Minor Threat
    Ramones
    Stooges

Yes the bearings are ok and serviceable but the freehubs aren't. They're crap. Another problem I've had is axles snapping. Oh, and freehubs freezing in proper winter conditions.
At least with Hope you can service the freehub in 5 minutes. That and the bearings last a long time (a lot longer than cup n cone in my experience).
That said, Shimano are ok for non-mountain biking duties.

I gave up and got the bus today. Absolutely knackered from getting a new road bike and keeping the 20 mile/day commute going. And I've been drenched 5 times this week.
To equal things out, you should ride home 😆

Oddly, only about 15 people moshing at the Junction. Everyone else trying to take (crap) photos on iPhones and Blackberries.

This is my pet hate. Then you find yourself watching it through somebody else's phone. Idiots!

Oh, and 'Start Choppin'' is where it's at. Love Dinosaur Jr.
As an aside, as the right audience may be here, Mudhoney are on tour again, and playing in a social club in Leeds (Oct 10th)! I can hardly contain myself…
