A regular QR…? Sorry to be a smartarse, but what more do you need it to do?

Thanks for the advice. Does anyone know what problems I might face with just swapping components over? I’m aware that I’d need a new seat post and a new headset… has anyone done a similar transfer of components and found any other problems I might not have anticipated? I’m thinking it’ll most likely be the Cove Handjob BTW.

    +1. So option 4 then.

Don’t attempt Houndkirk Road – there are 6 foot walls of snow across the track, seriously. Spectacular to look at, but not exactly rideable (as I found out yesterday). Piper Lane descent on Blacka Moor is pretty much a write-off as well at the moment.

Invite a gnome over. It worked when they infested the royal golf course.

They were maintaining an existing bridleway, not designing a trail from scratch.

It’s the bridleway round the side of Wimble Holme Hill between Totley Moor and Blacka Moor.

@simonm. You’ve clearly never ridden it then. It looked that enticing for maybe one day a year if it hadn’t rained for a month. The rest of the time it was an unrideable boggy mess and the whole track was in danger of slipping down the side of the hill.

I was making a similar decision a couple of months ago. Dunno your budget, but I had 2-2.5k to spend. It was between a Zesty or Norco Sight 2 for me, until I found a reduced price 2012 Yeti ASR-5 with Enduro build, and went for that instead. It is ace.

I haven’t noticed any antagonism towards trail centres on here personally, I get the impression a lot of contributors use them. Mind you, I live and ride in the Peak District so I think you’re all pondlife.

A mate of mine ordered some wheels from Wiggle, they sent him the wrong ones. Twice. I’d never used them and decided after that I’d be wise to avoid them, until a couple of weeks ago when I ordered a brake cable. They sent me a gear cable.

Nice idea binners. Not sure I should leave the 3 year-old and 5 year-old home alone though…! Come to think of it, any STW babysitters available in Sheffield? :-)

I also have Predators and Badlands on Sky+… anybody recommend either of these?

Wouldn’t mind watching Real v Man U, but I don’t have Sky Sports any more – cancelled it last year when I realised I was watching no more than one game per month.

It’s looking like North By Northwest then, unless anybody cares to sway my opinion before this evening…?

Yeah Django, not Django Unchained. Although I admit that my desire to see Django is largely down to the fact that I loved Django Unchained.

A Super Tuff Burner. Gold with black Skyway Mag wheels. Awesome bike (or so I thought at the time anyway).

Just for clarification: Devil’s Arse = Peak Cavern.

I wouldn’t take a 2 year-old down Speedwell Cavern. It’s very claustrophobic through the tunnels, and if they decide to have a meltdown on the crowded boat, there’s nowhere to hide. Plus there’s a shitload of steps to negotiate at either end.

The Devil’s Arse caves are much better. You can do them on foot and there’s plenty of room for the kids to wander. All much more relaxing.

I haven’t done Blue John or Treak Cliff so can’t help with those.

Ah, but then I’d have posted it in the cycling forum cos I’m a stickler for the rules.

Just the middle one I think. Assume zip ties through the two outer ones at the top will pull it away from the tyre a bit more…?

I meant it’s attached under the fork brace of course, not the crown. Thanks Mad Pierre, will investigate that possibility.

I thought I’d give El Mariachi ten minutes on Lovefilm late last night to see if it might be worth watching another time. Ended up watching it all the way through there and then.

We did canyoning, rafting etc a few years ago with a company called 3glav, whom I would definitely recommend. That was the summer though, no idea if they operate at the time of year you’ll be there.

I’ve always had a weird obsession with Kate Pierson from the B52s’ voice. She even made REM’s Shiny Happy People bearable.

I’ve posted this before, but seeing as you asked:

I’ll never go back to JE James in Sheffield after my experience looking for a bike for my 5 year-old son. The woman who served us couldn’t have been less helpful if she’d tried.

I had to ask her if she could possibly bother to get the bike off the display so he could sit on it, which she did after rolling her eyes like it was all too much trouble. Then, when the seat was a bit too low I asked her if she would mind adjusting it so he could try it for size. She sighed loudly and went to get a spanner, which she then gave to ME to make the adjustment.

Anyway, as soon as he’d sat on it and was off looking at another one (as 5 year-olds do), she immediately dropped the seat and put it back on the display and walked away. My son inevitably came back wanting to sit on the bike again, at which point we decided we’d had enough of being treated like an annoyance and took a tearful little boy out of the shop to look elsewhere.

I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever been made to feel so angry at customer ‘service’ in my life before.

Yeah, must admit we didn’t bother with the financial ‘clean break’ agreement as neither of us actually had any money and we didn’t have kids – I assume that can complicate things a little.

Isn’t it an Android phone..? Mine syncs all contacts with my Google account, which I can access from any PC, phone etc. Sorry if it’s a daft question, but have you already tried that?

Very simple. It’s 11 years since I did it so I can’t really remember the details, but me and the ex sorted everything amicably with no solicitors and I do remember it being surprisingly straightforward. You just have to get some forms from your local court, fill em in, pay a fee and then wait for it all to be finalised.

Off into Sheffield for a few pints of Moonshine in the Red Lion, Red Deer and no other red animal-themed pubs.

Stepped out of the front door to defrost the car and slid straight down the steps. Probably my fault for still being in my slippers.

Hope the Sheffield roads are passable – I’m waiting in for my new Yeti to be delivered…

    don’t pass on the inside?

You’re kidding, right? Have you ever ridden a bike on the road?

    don’t ride in the gutter.

    Agree with this one though.

    @rewski

Shit, I’ve thought that a few times recently too. I have to make myself believe that they just haven’t seen me coming up the inside – nobody could be that stupid/evil, surely…?

    I have this Ultrafire one:

    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/3-7V-UltraFire-WF-139-Rechargeable-Battery-Charger-18650-14500-17670-UK-Plug-/120984751633?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Battery_Chargers&hash=item1c2b40ce11

…not sure it was from that particular seller but it’s the same charger. I bought a cheap dealextreme one with my lights originally, but then got uneasy about it maybe burning my house down and decided to get a UK-specific one instead.

Decent charging time, charges 2 batteries with LED turning from red to green when it’s finished.
