Decathlon’s Kalenji branded kit is great value, and I use my former running tops for cycling these days too.

There’s a big BMW with a personalised reg plate that’s passed me way too close and way too fast several times on my way home – I’m just waiting till I see it parked up somewhere because I WILL put a massive scratch down the side of it when I get the chance. Maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow but ONE DAY. Hopefully before he kills me.

I’ve got an ASR-5 alloy in medium (I’m 5’10”) with 60mm stem and 760mm bar. I ride in the Peak, although taken it to Gisburn and Whinlatter too. It’s ace.

Never struggled with pedal bob, and mine has RP2 shock whick is less tuneable (I think) than the RP23. It’s the only FS I’ve owned so I can’t compare it to anything else, other than to say I can’t possibly imagine how any other bike could be more fun.

Crap day to be a cyclist in Sheffield – a colleague of mine got knocked off his bike on London Road this morning too.

Just to resurrect this thread… I went for the Marathon Plus in the end. First ride in this morning and I really like them. Not nearly as uncomfortable as I was expecting, and they seemed to roll really well. Noticeably heavier than the previous non-branded tyres that I had on the bike from new, but no problems so far.

They were an absolute pain to fit though, I managed to snap a plastic tyre lever and pinched two tubes. I recommend getting as narrow a tube as possible for the tyre/wheel size so there’s a bit less rubber to get caught between the tyre and the rim when you fit them. Hope they’re as puncture proof as they claim, cos I don’t relish the thought of changing a tube by the side of the road any time soon.

They’re good if there’s plenty of clearance in my experience; I switched to a Neoguard from a Mucky Nutz on one bike, as the Mucky Nutz kept catching on the front tyre. That was on a Fox fork with an admittedly pretty hefty Hans Dampf tyre. I transferred it over to another bike with a bit more front clearance and have had no issues with that one.

Thanks for all the advice by the way.

Yep I was referring to the Rud Hill/ White Stones path. To be avoided then…?

Yep, that’s all I had to do. I shortened mine recently – even bought a bleed kit in advance expecting to make a mess of it and have to re-bleed… but it was dead easy and works perfectly..

What did you do Muzzle – sell the Cube? Surely that’s illegal if you don’t own it? (Nice Handjob btw)

Cheers! Bought the Cube, changed the fork to a Reba a few months later. Upgraded various other bits over the next few months, then bought the Handjob frame and transferred everything to that and sold the Cube frame. Been a bit of an evolutionary process to move from one bike to another. Current bike has the original wheels, saddle, brakes, cranks, chainring/derailleurs… and erm, that’s it I think.

Not sure Cyclescheme would officially condone it, but I’m not too worried that it’ll be any sort of a problem at the end of the 3 years…

Once got halfway to work on a 5-mile commute to realise I wasn’t wearing my helmet… decided to do the 2.5 miles home to get it rather than the 7.5 miles I’d have otherwise had to do without it that day, cos I just knew that it would be the day I fell off. I didn’t fall off.

well that was silly wasnt it muzzle

Nah, it’s much more fun to ride now :D

I’m in trouble if they want mine back at the end of the 3 years – I don’t have much of it left.

    I bought this:

But there’s no way they’re getting this back:

OK, you’re all off my Christmas card list apart from piedi di formaggio… but only because he said it sounded like the Wombles.

I thought Ellie Goulding’s Burn sounded quite Xmassy but was released way too early.

Can she fart the tune to Jingle Bells?

I like them, but like most hi viz cycling kit, useless with a camelbak

Agreed. I use mine for the 5-mile ride to work, which I can just about manage without a drink.

Edit: assuming you’re referring to the Hump covers, not the pretend Police jacket.

What’s to get annoyed about? It’s a hi-viz jacket and a bit like the hump backpacks it allows quick identification of people who are likely to be a little annoying and/or boring!!

Oi! I have a Hump backpack cover and I’m only very slightly annoying/and or boring.

SW Sheffield – takes me 20mins to cycle (downhill) to the city centre one way, and 20mins to cycle (uphill) to the Peak District the other way.

They DO advertise them – RS very loudly trumpeted (and rightly so) their involvement in getting the Barbrook and Totley Moor bridleway upgrades to fruition. Just because you haven’t been paying attention doesn’t mean it hasn’t been happening.

I always assumed they were called fireroads because they provide a break in the trees to prevent the spread of fire.

Cheers anyway chaps, fireroad it is then – with a cheery wave and a smile for any walkers I might meet.

The fireroad leading up from the bridleway near The Springs that connects to the footpath to Winhill Pike?

I don’t fancy riding down Parkin Clough, looks a bit steep…!

    *bookmarks thread*

Me too! Mind you, I did start it.

Does that shortened version still get the best bits of the route, or am I missing something special on the route back to Keswick along the west side of Derwent Water…? Sorry for all the questions :-)

It’ll be a Friday. 15 Nov to be precise, assuming that’s what we definitely decide to do (weather forecast nearer the time etc). What’s the shorter variant, just out of interest? Does it miss out all the best stuff of the longer route? Would be nice to have a backup in case of delays getting up there etc.

Will be middle of November, so I’ll be lucky if it’s perfect conditions. Reckoning on a 4pm sunset, I’ll need to be off by 10am and I’ve got to drive up from Sheffield first! Looks like an early start then…

Some useful info, thanks very much. Any idea how long it should take to ride the route, including the Walla Crag to Ashness bridge bit? I’m reasonably fit but not super-fast if that helps!

At the very least he should have been twanging it into the tree like a laggy band. Throwing it was just lazy.

Smaller is better when it comes to festivals. Or maybe I’m just a grumpy sod who doesn’t like crowds.

Deer Shed festival in North Yorks is great, particularly if you have kids. Great music, ace beer, loads to keep the kids entertained and always sunny (so far).

I had the same issue with some Uberbike sintered pads; they wailed like nothing on earth when new even though I’d bedded them in. They settled down after a couple of rides and don’t make a sound now. Well, either that or they made me go deaf.

Yes, just thought of checking Wiggle order status! It’s ‘Awaiting Processing’. Not sure I’m any the wiser…
