5’10” with a 17.5″ Handjob. It’s fine for me although I have seatpost at max height. If I was 5’11” as you are, I think it might be verging on the small side.

Edit: although having read your post again, it’d appear that we have the same leg size, so a 17.5″ may be OK for you too.

walking into the shared kitchen to witness someone filling the kettle up from the wall mounted water boiler…

I do that all the time at work. The water from the boiler isn’t quite hot enough for my liking (ie. not actually boiling), but filling the kettle with it gets you a head start. Why would that leave you lost for words?

I have no pictures to prove it, but London Road in Sheffield always smells magnificent on the summer commutes when all the takeaways have their doors and windows open.

I have the 2011 version and it’s ace. Cheap(ish) and simple enough as it’s only 8-speed. I think they do a single speed version too, and one with disc brakes. Dunno what the hills are like where you are, but I use it in Sheffield with no problems so I imagine you’ll be fine with only 8 gears.

Set of Schwalbe Marathon Plus should sort your tyre concerns, although the stock tyres lasted me over 2 years before I changed them, and I only got three punctures in all that time.

I always wear them in all weathers – I wear contact lenses so I like to keep mud, grit etc out of my eyes as much as I can. They’re also good protection from insects and low-hanging branches in the woods.

I don’t have a visibility problem with them in the rain, but I do find that they can steam up once I stop moving, particularly if I’ve got a sweat on.

I’ve never understood why Cube called one of their bikes LTD. Are they saying it’s limited in some way, or does it mean something else in Germany?

looking at original post the guy didnt have it insured so not a scam

Yes you should definitely take Tony’s word for it when he said it’s not insured. He’s been totally trustworthy so far.

I took my 3 year-old daughter to watch it last year, and she loved it. Highly recommended.

I had to get rid of the Mucky Nutz as it kept catching on the Hans Dampf 2.35 on my bike. Different fork and 26″ wheel though, so this advice may well be utterly irrelevant.

Doesn’t have to be ABOUT a railway station, it just has to contain the complete name of the station.

I’d just like to point out that all three of mine ARE about the station and are therefore superior in every way.

Wouldn’t worry too much if it is, I was back on the bike within a few days (GP just told me to avoid falling off as any impact in that area wouldn’t be especially helpful!). Worth getting it checked out though.

Pneumothorax? I had one last year (spontaneous pneumothorax ie not caused by an injury or impact), symptoms pretty much as you describe except it was on the right side of my chest.

Thread I started on it here:

I’m very happy with my Marathon Plus – I bought them despite the avalanche of reviews that suggested that they roll horribly; they don’t. If anything, they’re smoother than the unbranded tyres that originally came with the bike. No punctures so far (touch wood etc), although I’ve only had em a couple of months. Definitely recommended.

Airwalks are a false economy IMO. I’ve got some and the sole is paper thin – I can feel every pin on the pedal through them. I got some 5 10 Elements instead and they’re great. Never suffered with them soaking up too much water and I’ve been using them all winter.

a camp scifi comedy romp that somehow pleases everyone

It didn’t please me. The 5th Element has to be the most overrated film of all time, but I suppose that’s a topic for another discussion.

Deer Shed festival in North Yorkshire – great mix of music and kids’ stuff. Last year’s theme was Machines, and they had all sorts of workshops and interactive stuff – my 6 year-old son loved it.

This year the theme is Time Travel and Johnny Marr and British Sea Power are the main acts, with more bands being announced tomorrow I think.

We’ve been every year for the last three years and we love it. Went to Latitude with the kids a few years ago, and found it just too big. Deer Shed is much smaller, with a nice easy walk from car to campsite and from campsite to arena.

Oh, and that’s my son in the video from the 2013 festival at 44 seconds in (the little one on the left in the big goggles!).

If anybody missed out on tickets for this, they’ve just announced an additional gig Friday 21 Nov at Shepherd’s Bush Empire. The original Brixton date will still be the last ever though – glad I’ve got my tickets for that!
