Kerv, what psi were you running and were they 32mm?

Also, what’s the rockiest the route gets? Thanks

ABS light, save the hassle and take it to a local garage. Won’t be dear and not worth rolling about on the ground over .

I’m in the trade and have used a £20 quid eBay job and, from experience, will 99% of the time, give you a code on all engine management light errors.

Very impressive and got me out a few holes .

<span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”>What it won’t do is tell you where an ABS or Airbag fault lies you need a more expensive machine for that. A lot of folk say that Launch (or something like that) is very good and costs about £150.</span>

For a Berlingo the cheap one will be perfect. Had mine a good few years and not sure of model  .

My Volvo XC70 4×4 with just gone 1/4 million miles has just been written off for a second time after a numpty slid into the side of it in the January snow up here in Scotland. Both doors on one side of it took a hit, low down.

Just been given the money yesterday but not sure if I can be bothered getting doors from the scrappy, may just keep it as a ruggedly handsome sort of thing.

Says a lot about Volvo that it can be written off twice and still be on the road performing admirably.

    Good advice, thanks.

I’m pretty new to the gravel bikes/tyres and was running tubeless, but ran them (40mm Maxxis Ramblers) too low (30psi at 88kg) on a rocky section of trail a couple of weeks ago and learned that that was too low as I had multiple pinch flats and ended up with a rear tyre that would not inflate / seal properly .

Have gone back to tubes. The consolation for me is that my tyre rim combo makes changing tubes a doddle. This is having had some horrendous experiences with modern tubeless ready rim and tyre combos with inner tubes.

Would take at least two tubes, most likely three.

    Thinking of entering this.

Why the overwhelming preference for tubeless? Is it because it eliminates (hopefully) the ‘time consuming’ task of swapping tubes?

I test rode the top of the range one for about 10 mins on the road when I was looking for a gravel bike. It rode fine, although the squishy front bit was a bit odd and takes a lot of the directness away. Don’t get me wrong, you’d probably be thankful for it on a long off-road ride.

Ultimately I felt the bike was quite weakly specced for a bike that retails over 2.5k (even though I could have got a good discount), and felt Spesh were maybe charging through the nose for the benefit of having the squishy bit.

Got a Whyte Friston instead and very happy.

Multiplas drove better than they looked. Grippy go carts, low centre of gravity and wide profile, punchy 1.9 diesel engine. Seen some horrors underneath them up here in Scotland though.

Berlingo are good and would be in my top 3 bike wagons along with a Volvo X70 and a Honda CRV in terms of all round package  – size, reliability (although maybe pushing it a bit with the Citroen 🙂 drive quality (Volvo I love you) and getting a decent example for under a few £k

Very few Scottish rugby-centric posh schools, you could count them on one hand, and those that are a largely made of English pupils.

And few things look more ridiculous on a rugby pitch than square shouldered Dan Cole’s beer belly tucked into a skin tight white top, all whilst those wee baby legs scurry about underneath him trying to support him.

Whatever you do, don’t spend 5-10k on a car.

For a nation with only two professional rugby teams to beat one with far more (not to mention rugby-centric posh schools) is a great achievement.

    Cheap, knocky ride experience.

Fuse boxes that get damp and cause all manner of electrical gremlins.

    Faulty indicator stalk.

Underpowered and overworked crap 1.4 and 1.6 petrol engines

A blower motor you have to smack to get it working

    Heaps of shit

That space in under loughrigg isn’t the usual sort of space I’d go for, I’d be worried about folk coming along and crashing into the van when I was sleeping, I prefer to be off the road somewhere

    I paid £640 for a 2003 Volvo XC70 2.4 D5 diesel auto with 230odd k on it. Now just below a 1/4 million and a joy to drive

Drive something you like, get it cheap and treat it well

    Nice corolla 🙂

Hi, I’m just off a three hour turbo training session in prep for a 200k gravel ride in April, if you want to get with me you need to be cool but importantly enjoy me cycling too. (Whilst fiddling with the sore that has came up on your gooch

    Sold quite a few similar.

    Don’t worry about DMF.

Make sure clutch pedal is not too stiff, or have a bite that is hard to control – dodgy clutch at worst, or an uncomfortable calf cramper at best.

    Check for slipping under load.

They can also be a bit smoky, don’t be put off by a bit when cold, but make sure not excessively smoky.

It’s a no-brainer that Alaska legalised Lou Reed.

300 odd days stuck mostly indoors, got to have something to occupy your mind, plus, when you do come out you have that stunning landscape, coastline and sky to look at whilst bongoed. Plus your nearest neighbour is 30 miles away so you can grow it without causing anyone harm.

Front or rear springs? If rear they can be done while mechanic is doing trailing arm bushes.

Pulleys, belts etc are all in the one area – you may even be able to do it yourself.

Central locking not a big issue, as long as you can lock and unlock all the doors.

Buy and stockpile all the bits you need cheap from eBay then drop the car at a ‘backstreet’ indy with a good reputation.

Stick with the car, buying another is a pain.

+1 on giving it a good pull.

I know on on the old Audi A4s the reverse switch is on the back of the gearbox and you need to lie down and go under the car. Maybe similar on an Octavia.

Would a carbon 29er be ok over this distance and terrain?

Just back from 2 days riding – 8000 feet elevation climbed over two rides and 60 miles.

Trail conditions are muddy with lots of puddles to wet your feet. There is also an icy wind that gets to you as soon as you stop.

Go ride, don’t let anything put you off! Just set off very early in the morning as you don’t want to be running out of daylight

I can feel the blisters on my legs just thinking about riding those army ones for 6 hours in a wet day.

If you are happy to ride around in sawn-off army gear with one leg longer than the other you are one step away from riding around with a binbag sarong as a windbreaker. Life’s to short! 😀

Oh yes, more pedal on rock action than I am used to but I don’t mind that too much. It makes me feel like I am using the bike, and it is just a personality trait

I have had a 2018 Stumpy Carbon 29er for a month and have used it considerably in that time.

I wanted a more capable companion for riding than my skittish carbon racy 29er HT which I love, but as a recent returner I wanted another bike for long days in the mountains that didn’t smash you to pieces, and also a bike for getting to the local trail centre to improve crap technical ability.

It has been a great acquisition, it can climb, gives a snappyness and quick pick-up that you don’t get from alu (that always feels a tad leaden!). I ride it for hours and still love it afterwards.

The black bit is a storage bit for a 29er tube and co2 tools etc. Very handy feature

    Hello.

I live in Scotland. My experience was that I waited till my daughter was 16 and it cost me buttons, about 100 quid. £70 if that was for a lawyer to sign a piece of paper.

Crucially, there was no outstanding issues with her. Amicable. No life insurance or all that complex stuff to sort out, just an agreeance to 50/50 on the house.
