It took me 5 seconds to realise the photo of Arnold Schwarzenegger wasn’t actually David Cameron.

Got them on an old XC70 which came with new ‘mid range’ summer tyres which I found vague and washy so took the Crossclimates of my old XC70 and much, much better.

Used them in the snow last year and were good

I have a 2003 XC70 d5 auto, was on 262k but after a service and change of diesel filter it got an airlock and I can’t get it started. It’s just sitting there now!

I also had in spare a 2006 version of the same car with now gone 183k on it.

Beautiful cars that do all you need including a getting a good night’s kip in before hitting the trails the next day. So, so comfortable. Once you hit open road it’s the perfect car.

    Cons
Thirsty compared to new diesel estates
    No aux /usb
    I live in the city

Always make at least 4ft department if intending to keep koi

If you are keeping koi, good air pump is essential likewise filter. My brother has Nexus easypid picked for a bargain on eBay

    Don’t overstock at beginning

    Use a good liner

Watch out for predators, netting is useful and raised ponds are good

Deffo suited to gravel / CX bikes, although the off road stuff round the back of skiddaw was pretty technical in the wet and mud last year

Did it last year for the first time and thoroughly enjoyed it (29er carbon HT).

Would have entered this year but planning a holiday around then, although I would love to make it .

    40 next year.

Daughter is 18 and just started uni.

I have six pushbikes, currently approximately 12 motor vehicles (including two camper vans), a penchant for going away walking/cycling and sleeping in cars/vans, a taste for fine food and something else….between all of these a few £ gets spent.

Sometimes feel like decluttering, having one motor vehicle (would necessitate another job), two or three bikes, getting a dog and taking up Hillwalking and wildcamping.

I could throw a curve ball by asking the GF to marry me and buying a house with her.

Newer Toyota autoboxes are not good.

Avensis petrol estates are good cars. I’ve had several, older pre- and post 2002? Shapes. The older you go, the worse underside corrosion will be, although the further south the car has spent it’s life, the better. They are workmanlike cars of acceptable (but not Volvo/Saab) comfort.

You could get something nice for 2k

Old civics post 2006 are spacious with the rear seats down as mentioned and are decent but I prefer estates if you can get away with them

^ belt change on pre 2008? Diesels is important as they go eary. Post 2008 are chain driven I believe

I just sold a 9-5 aero estate with the 1.8T 2.0 engine and was impressed with the car. Very comfortable and the engine was lovely. Mine had bubbling starting on two of the arches, so this will be fairly common on them.

They are very comfortable (and I drive a Volvo xc70, the king of comfort).

If you want a cheap petrol estate it would be my choice, and I’ve driven lost of stuff.

You’ll get a nice one for 2k. Gave mine away for under 1200 in the end, 07 plate 112k

Heard a couple of the new songs and they are pretty rubbish.

Still call myself an Orbital fan purely on the basis of their older stuff but there is far, far better dance music being made elsewhere. Aphex Twin, for example, is still doing it.

It looks like you’ve been stitched up by greedy traders offloading a broken car for the most they could get.

    <span style=”font-size: 0.8rem;”>You need to move on. </span>

Put the car into the local auction house (best)  or eBay auction 99p start no reserve auction along with an honest description of the story with the car.

Did they give you a V5 or is it being sent out to you in your own name?

And don’t buy a BMW. 2k could have got you s better car

if the strut system is standard external types, i.e. you can see/access them as they are right in front of you it is easy as the poster poster above says, you just use a sharp screwdriver to pop off the clips either end then pull the strut off.

On some cars e.g. Merc estates the struts are enclosed in the ‘roof’ and quite a bit of stripping is invoked.

Older Skoda estates were the former , can’t see newer ones being any different .

Buy the struts off eBay for cheapness

Thorpie, it is clear you are a man of fine intention .

Those observations you are reflecting on from the front line as a police officer are in fact the result of the current illegality of cannabis and the resultant black market turf wars.

Legalisation, if done correctly, would remove this and alloy the police force to direct resources elsewhere.

    This is a beautiful thread.

As a long time cycling visitor to Keswick and the lakes I am intrigued by such stories of local sporting heritage and the legends that inhabit it.

In fact I am currently sitting with a beer overlooking Skiddaw.

Back o Skiddaw is a favourite route of mine.

It is a good day out for an experienced rider and will be tough for the novice, but certainly manageable.

Dry weather will make the riding much easier.

    Take care on Lonscale fell.

Marvel at the seclusion of Skiddaw YHA and the quiet northern view of Cumbria from the most northerly section of the ride.

See who can get furthest up dash falls climb before getting off.

    Enjoy

    Commiserations

A new Cambelt wouldn’t have helped if it was an aux pulley at seized.

Having one of these and having changed an alternator, there is 1mm separating the aux belt from cambelt, so any issues with any pulleys is a big danger.

Moral of the story is to use your ears and always keep an ear out for the health of all pulleys by listening out for any chirping, and visually look down the sight of the aux belt to make sure it is running nice and straight and not wonky due to a wobbly worn pulley

    Xc70 is the best Volvo

Higher than V70, beautiful wafty ride and great in winter

XC90 only good if 7 seats must, otherwise too big and heavy so too thirsty if doing decent mileage

    Volvo’s = very nice

I fit large MTB or 58cm road bike in xc70 without removing any wheels.
