This only adds weight to my theory that I am Lance Armstrong
Best buy a Trek then 🙂
mustardFree MemberIs it wrong that a cheap looking website makes me suspicious of a very expensive product?
mustardFree Memberir_bandito – what did you expect for £35?!
Given that the cost of replacing all the ink cartridges is about the same as buying a whole new printer, I suppose they’re viewed as disposable items these days.
I can’t stand the whole disposable culture we’ve gotten into, I’d happily pay more for a reliable machine that would last than get a cheapie that needs replaced every year. Must start researching this actually as I decided at the weekend that I abuse the facilities in work too much…
mustardFree MemberNot iDaveing but a lot of what we eat would be pretty much compliant anyway, apart from the pasta and bread 😀
I have pretty much cut out refined sugar during the week and my diet in general is very low on saturated fat and I can see the diference already.
My commute seems to have turned into a 4mile TT lately from trying to keep my cadence up on the long draggy, but not steep, hill on my fixie.
Looking forward to (getting spat out the back of) the first road race in a few weeks, but I feel like I’ve lost a lot of power from my legs after a nasty cold over christmas…
hmm, that seeems to have gone off on a bit of a tangent.
mustardFree MemberSpent some time drinking with Hartley in Christchurch and Queenstown during that England tour in 2008.
mustardFree Memberyes – they’ll be paid to.
so can you explain why Cervelo went from being paid to use SRAM components to paying to use Shimano? Seems to me that pro road teams are willing to choose performance over money.
mustardFree Memberthat’s worrying, when they say that disc brakes make changing wheels harder it shows they’ve never really used disc brakes
1-they’re not Road.cc are based in Bath or somewhere like that.
2-I think the point being made there is more to do with racing wheel changes and disc alignment, but I could be wrong.mustardFree MemberEDIT: beaten to it.
Its not often I manage that with the length of time it takes me to figure out what I’m trying to say 😆
EDIT –
road cc clearly know next-to-sod-all about disc brakes…
But that part is a quote from Magura who do know one or two things about disc brakes…
mustardFree MemberFrom the launch of the Cervélo P5 and Magura RT8 brakes;
Why Hydraulic?
Any disadvantages over cable rim brakes? In terms of performance, it’s difficult to see a downside. I used these brakes on a P5 at the Cervélo bike launch earlier this week and they are fabulous. They’re brakes… but more so. You get enough well modulated power that you can leave braking that little bit longer and save precious seconds over the opposition.
As for just-in-case braking, well, there’s far less of that. You know you can stop on a sixpence (not sure where I dragged that phrase up from) if you need to so you don’t need to approach corners as tentatively as usual. Sling yourself into the bends at full speed and you can still slow down in time if need be.
“With this brake you can stay faster for a longer time,” said Magura’s Product Manager Stefan Pahl. “You can brake at the last second.”
Why not disc?
•Less weight due to [the fact that there’s no need for] stiffened frames and forks and special hubs with unsychronized forces.
• Better aerodynamics – disc/rotor and calliper create a lot of drag.
• Rim brakes are UCI approved, disc brakes are not.
• Braking power. The biggest friction diameter on a wheel is the rim.
• Easy wheel change.mustardFree Memberkinda tempted but what sort of optons are ther for 28h mtb hubs? My Google-fu is weak with this one…
and a wee bump 🙂
mustardFree MemberThe guy in Tiso recomended Scandinavian brands in general if you need slim body and long sleeves.
mustardFree MemberI was going to suggest Helly. The Lifa Warm base layer I have has good long sleeves and the merino layer makes it toasty. The standard lifa sleeves don’t seem as long as they used to but thats just ‘cos they’re a bit crap and lose they’re shape really quickly.
mustardFree MemberThe serious question is pants that don’t go up your bum
Comando.
My knees get upset and start hurt if I run in shorts at this time of year.
mustardFree MemberI managed to put my elbow through a carbon cage on my road bike
Sounds like you had a lucky escape and the barbs didn’t make it all the way to your heart 😆
I think compartmentalising frame bags just limits your versatility; I don’t have any issues with my full size frame bag being one big space. That reminds me, must get my sewing machine up and running.
mustardFree MemberTa, will have a look. A little bit cheaper than the Arundels I was looking at before 😀
mustardFree MemberPedalhead – what are your bottle cages and are they any good? There aren’t many options out there for side loaders…
mustardFree MemberUnlike the precious folk above, I enjoy a variety of different coffee
types from espresso to blended ice frappucinosflavour milkshakes then complain that my weight loss on the iDave diet has stoppedFTFY 🙂
FWIW black no sugar, usually espresso, these days. Occasionally a flat white or machiato but I seem to have gone off milk in my coffee.
mustardFree MemberI’ve two pairs, neither prefect…
Nike ones – not bad but Grey was not a good colour choice and I should possibly have gone for a smaller size.
Montane ones – from Go Outdoors and therefore a few seasons old. Nice not very stretchy cordura fabric but have to be careful zipping over my calves and no elastic in the waistband. They both work their way down as I run to give me a saggy butt but this is probably due to my lack of hips/buns rather than the tights. I’m even thinking of sewing in the bib from a pair of cycling shorts…
mustardFree MemberCheck the shops will do the discounted bikes on bike to work; many don’t as the scheme already eats into too much of their margin.
mustardFree Memberbut the sim still remembers the name/number
no it doesn’t, you have only deleted it from the phone, not the sim.
[stirs]Looks like you want to keep in touch…[/stirs]
mustardFree MemberA quick google found this scotchlite fabric tape which I think I’ll get a couple of metres of and sew onto the sleeves of the Aldi softshell I usually comute in. They also have a self adhesive version.
mustardFree MemberOoh, that orange looks almost Colman’s Mustard yellow…
I wish they would put comparable info up for their various frames the Dirty Harry is all TBC even though they are in stock.
Although this is all a bit academic as I think I’m going to put my money into sus forks and wheels for the Swift this year, unless I change my mind again and decide I am going to sell my Hemlock and various 26″ bits.

Radio Times would like to apologise for a picture that has inadvertently been published in the new issue of the magazine. It has come to our attention that an apparently innocent photo of the Royal Marines’ 42 Commando unit – printed by Radio Times in good faith and issued by Channel 5’s publicity department to promote the documentary Royal Marines: Mission Afghanistan – contains the sight of one of the marines playing a prank.
“I know that British soldiers serving in Afghanistan are well equipped, but seeing the roll call of Royal Marines gives the expression a whole new meaning,” wrote one reader in a letter to RT this morning.
The unnamed marine is, like the rest of his unit, posing for the photograph dressed only in shorts. What we took to be the marine’s finger proved, on closer inspection, to be another part of his anatomy.
We have redacted the picture above, but the 28 January issue of Radio Times magazine – on sale today, priced £1.40 – went to press before the mistake was noticed.
“We apologise for any upset caused to readers by the rogue member of 42 Commando,” said Radio Times editor Ben Preston. 😆
mustardFree MemberI was looking at the endura helium that they do in white. Although I now think I’m going to give the Ground Effect Storm Trooper a go as, even though it’s not the most modern design, the kiwis seem pretty good at making this kinda thing and are pretty familiar with an island climate like ours. You can get it in agent orange if you want hi-viz that isn’t yellow.
mustardFree MemberWhereas I had a massive meal in a pub the other day, then didn’t eat for over 24 hours because I wasn’t hungry. I’ve had breakfast today, done 2 hours gently on my bike and will eat again before bed, probably just a sandwich.
Now I’d say that’s not a very healthy relationship with food either and is more likely to lead to your body storing fat when you do eat as it doesn’t know when it is going to get fuelled again.
mustardFree MemberThe jacket I was looking at was an Endura and white, can’t remember what model, but I found out from someone that they don’t allow all shops all colours so you may have to dig around.
I was going to buy it online but I can’t remember what size I found fitted either – the shop I tried it on in only had black 🙄
mustardFree MemberI don’t think red is very good at night. Last time I was looking I wanted white as I don’t want hi-vis, didn’t actually get anything in teh end on that occasion and really need to stop getting soaked 🙄
mustardFree Membercalcium and thyroid levels can influence how thirsty you are, might be worth asking the GP for a check next time you’re there?
I’ll look into it. I wouldn’t have thought it was calcium, or at least not deficiency, as I have quite a lot of milk and green veg in my diet.
Also it’s not so much thirst as dehydration ie pee that looks like i’ve just had a berocca (which coincidentally I’ve been taking since my I got a right kicking by a cold just before christmas).
TSY do you keep your scales by the urinal so you can see your weight drop?
mustardFree MemberI weigh myself pre and post the loo most days
This made me spray my apple over my monitor – thanks TSY I needed that 😆
Crikey would you like a hug?
Do some people think that paying a gym membership helps them get fit without actually breaking a sweat?
P.S. I drink a lot of water too, occasionally to the point that I start to think I’m diabetic except I don’t have any other symptoms, but I seem to struggle to keep it and get dehydrated really easily too. Just can’t seem to find the balance point…
mustardFree Memberby a 4×4 driver who “didn’t see me”
[generalisation]he was probably drunk[/generalisation] if the number of drink drivers I encounted in Aus 3 years ago is anything to go by the number 20years ago must have been ridiculous!
mustardFree MemberTRX? (that is the first hit on google shopping, you may be able to find them cheaper) It does seem to be a bit of the new thing but they are a pretty versatile bit of kit and I am tempted to get it as I think it is the sort of thing I would actually use. Bodyweight excercises too so makes sense to me for climbing and a great core workout.
There are some vids on pinkbike of excercises for mtbers from the Yeti DH teams PT, he says it’s what they use on the world cup circuit as it means they don’t have to find a gym with specific bits of kit. Doesn’t take up any floor space in your cave and won’t give you as many dirty looks as a weights bench covered in an inch of dust/bike parts 🙂
mustardFree Memberjust made into coffee by tipping into cup adding water stirring and letting it settle
Cowboy coffee – I actually quite enjoy it when camping and it saves carrying something to strain/press with.
mustardFree MemberRace licence?
aye, I’m not doing very well today! Is there any other reason to slam that stem now RealMan has gone?!
mustardFree MemberI think a solar monkey is the best bet but they do seem to take an age to charge the battery. You should get enough charge each day to keep a gps topped up until you find somewhere to plug it in and get a proper charge into it.
When touring my phone is turned off unless I want to make a call – not often – so it lasts for donkeys.
