Alternativly; If you take a left just after the bridge control building and follow the cycle path through Sth Q’ferry & Dalmeny, onto the A90 cycle path to Barnton, Cross the A90 and take the right turn before the junction there is a one way road/cycle path, up past Cammo tower, that will bring you out about half way between the roundabout and the casino. Down to the junction, across the road and through the shopping centre car park.
mustardFree MemberTake the left turn, just before the upholstery place (or whatever the wee cottage on the left is) before going under the motorway, over a humpback bridge and follow the road around to the right. You pass the entrance to the sewage works and the end of the runway, up to the A8 then along the foot/cycle path all the way to the Gyle.
mustardFree MemberYou could have a look on brain farts of a bike tart and see if Rich is still trying to sell his Kinesis.– scratch that, I think it’s sold. I have seen a a few good reviews of it recently.mustardFree MemberDon’t think so
The tender results will be published on this section 2 weeks after the Tender has finished. The results will remain on the site for 2 weeks and will then be removed
I was going to stick a bid on an ambulance but forgot – probably for the best really.
mustardFree MemberWhen did you last see a steel frame that had rusted through? – should last just as long as Ti as long as you sort of look after it. It may even be lighter than cheap Ti – just worth keeping in mind – steel does not neccessarily = heavy.
mustardFree MemberWaaaayyy ahead of you on the beard front, worryingly though I’ve just been got on the start list for my first road race *bricking it* – may need a trim for next weekend!
mustardFree MemberI take it all back – it is a rattly hell; it must be from the bracket as, with the way I’ve packed it, there is no way it was the contents 👿
Ah well, I’ll need something bigger to fit a spare tub in soon anyway 🙂
when did seat packs become a faux pas?
when every MAMIL on the road decided they have to (try too) look like a member of the pro peloton at all times!
mustardFree MemberThat’s the biggest part done then…20mm Planet X tubs ordered and some planet x qrs to go with them – phew!
Will get the hubs ordered when I get home and I think it’ll be Schwalbe Ultremo’s from bike discount, but will wait and see where I get spokes from after I’ve measured the rims.
mustardFree Memberon board (fixed) water, hob, table and bed, windows in rear etc
so a stretcher and a colostomy bag on a hook won’t cut it 🙁
mustardFree MemberWith the new modified regs, DVLA are usually only willing to issue a V5 with “motorhome” if it was built and first registered as such – i.e. home converters now get the description “van with windows”
That’s interesting, I was making assumptions based on a beefy ex-russian military truck conversion which was a few years ago.
mustardFree MemberTa Dougie, on both counts. That sounds less messy than glue.
I think I’m a wee bit lighter now too. 🙂
Anyone any thoughts on Vittoria corsa evo cx or sc tubs? Have a couple of pairs of Vittoria clinchers and haven’t had any problems with them so far, even teh worringly cheap pair I got for the now deceased winter bike (unrelated!).
mustardFree MemberJust to save starting an new thread in my ongoing wheel saga….
Would you use wheels you are (or at least were, I might not be any more) 5kg over the weight limit for? – Planet X give a ‘recommended’ rider weight limit of 80kg for their handbuilt wheels on these rims and I was 84.9 last September.
mustardFree Memberfor craggy hillsides
and Spanish campsites 🙄 it’s my biggest bug bear with the Lunar Duo. I think it’s light enough that I could add some poles &/or straps to make a freestanding solution, just need to get what’s in my head on to paper and see if it would actually work…
mustardFree MemberI seriously considered the Shangrila but decided against it because of teh pole in the middle and that, being quite tall, I thought I’d be waking up with a face full of fabric every morning.
mustardFree MemberAnyone know what the rules are when it comes to driving an ambulance legally on the roads?
Would make a good bike transporter, plus it must have bed in the back! I think maybe, as above, get rid of the blues and lettering then do the absolute minimum to get the dvla to register it as a camper van?
they accept the bid and you win
Good point, should only really put the cheeky bid on one then; what’s worse than ending up with one shagged out ambulance…5!
mustardFree MemberTitinus Refurb Soft top
is this a refrence to your hearing after driving it?
Tempted to put a cheeky low bid on those ambulances…what’s the worst that can happen?! 😕
mustardFree MemberFair enough; it is essentally a tarp with a heavier weight groundsheet and mossie net inner walls. V.light, spacious (inc two big porches) and quick to pitch. DGOAB survived in it even a night in Trevelth (sp?), Sierra Nevada in October.
Druidh has one that is/was made by a British bloke I think would tick your boxes but I can’t remember the name of it.
ah-ha! spacepacker I almost borrowed it when it looked like mine wasn’t going to turn up in time.
mustardFree Memberi really cant see mrs T-R going for that
In what way if you don’t mind me asking?
mustardFree MemberI’m taking voluntary severance from a pretty secure job (but with no real prospects of going anywhere, unless I want to move sideways out of science, as there are only two people above me) most people seem to think I’ve made the right choice. The money will see me right for about 20 monthswhich gets me out the other side of a masters course I want to do. – I don’t think it’s an opportunity I’ll ever get again.
mustardFree MemberMcmoonter asked something similar recently; http://singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/what-tent-4
I’ll make you the same offer as I won’t be using my tent for a bit. It doesn’t really fit all your criteria but I was very happy with my purchase – which was lucky as it took long enough to make a decision and i was very nervous buying it unseen. I think they may have changed the fabric recently so there may be some in the bargain bin on their site.
mustardFree MemberIT goes up and down like a yo yo
😯 It wasn’t that much a minute ago, has someone fallen asleep on the keyboard?!
I’ll have to do a couple of hillclimbs or mountain TTs once I have the wheels to get the most out of the light weight 😆
mustardFree MemberI hope that they haven’t been ‘down graded’
I don’t think that’s GE’s style just they’ve developed a couple of new lines that slot in above.
They don’t seem to do change for changes sake either which I like.
mustardFree MemberLooks like Planet X have made my decision for me they only have the 20 hole 50mm So 20mm it is!
Tyre recommendations? id I see something Tufo about being a bit stiff?
Do I use tape or glue or both?
mustardFree MemberPics as promised.
2 tubes, 2 CO2+head, 2 Pedros levers, multi tool and a wee patch kit in a Park quick patch box.
I don’t think there’ll be any rattling with the CO2 filling it up but i’m pretty sure a toe strap could be used to take up any slack.mustardFree Membermustard thats very expensie for BB. have you tried plusnet?
wanted the cable bb speeds as we’re not going to have tv at all so will be streaming love film and the like. Would also need to pay for BT install and line rental for at least a year with any other bb supplier.
mustardFree Memberalthough the Pro is slightly different
maybe it was the pro I was looking at, I had just had a quick squint at the website and thought it looked different to mine.
It’s the bigger cut out I’m interested in trying so will maybe give the Romin a shot when I get a replacement winter/touring frame sorted out.
I did that, and the saddle I bought as a result was by far the most uncomfortable it has ever been my misfortune to use.
That’s why I said
and if you’re lucky
I use a the SDG Bellair on my MTB too. Damm nice saddle, why not use one on your road bike as well
I have a mtb saddle (that works for me off road) on my commuter and it really needs changed. The shape doesn’t seem to work on road bikes for me it may for you…
only sat on it on my rollers so far but bloody hell its not too comfy
might be ok when you get outside.
Edited to fix the teh’s
mustardFree MemberWe’re getting just BB, not tv or phone, in the new flat. £17.50 for 1st 3 mths then £22.50/mth shocking install charge ~£50? but with a £25 discount 🙄 If that info is of any use to anyone. Better deal over the phone than online.
mustardFree MemberNormal colthes should be fine. The boney bits will find a way through!
mustardFree MemberSelle Italia also have a 30 day money back guarantee.
I just remembered that if you can’t get to a shop you can DIY the arseometer with a bit of corrugated card – set it on the edge of a bench/table, sit squarely on it then measure the distance from the centre of one sit bone dent to centre of the other.
The other thing is, is your current saddle set reasonably level? On the road bike a slight tip back will have you feeling like you’re being pushed off the back and put pressure on your bits and slightly nose down you’ll be sliding forward and not on your sit bones.
mustardFree MemberWhat you sorry for?
Anyway, standard answer; it depends. Get to a Spesh or Trek dealer and sit on their arseometer then pick a saddle according to how far apart your sit bones are and if you’re lucky it’ll be right first time.
I’ve an older Spesh Toupe (without the big cut out) that I like but am going to try the newer one or a Romin.
mustardFree MemberRiding side by side with bright lights on opposite sides of the bars makes oncoming drivers slow to a crawl as they think there is a massivly wide vehicle coming towards them 😀
mustardFree MemberCan you cinch it up with a toestrap?
Hadn’t actually thought of that, I’m not sure as there is a semi-rigid side. I’ll investigate and report back when I’ve got the CO2 inflators tomorrow and have seen how much I can cram in.
I’m sure Crikey will be glad to hear I’ve finished my last couple of rides (one 70ish and one 90ish km) with one still full bottle (500ml) and a dribble in left in t’other. 🙂
mustardFree MemberThe Ortlieb one looks like rattling hell.
It’s only the contents that rattle a little if badly packed, I need to put the solid bits in between the two tubes rather than around them. The bag/bracket doesn’t rattle at all.
mustardFree MemberAh ha! brainfartsofabiketart.com
They do seem to be a bit love em or hate em but you’ll never know if you don’t try!this mean i should copy you and buy carbon wheels now too?
lets see how i get on first eh? 2 tubs is going to be enough of a pain to glue without having to do yours too!
So, next question; which tyres? – we could be here a while 😆
mustardFree MemberI like the wee Ortlieb micro[/url] I’ve got, prob not the lightest but well secured, neat and no straps to rub your post 😯
I do need to rearrange the contents though as they were driving me mad rattling at the weekend.
Should carry all you need, I’ve currently got; 2 tubes, multi tool, patch kit and 2 pedros levers and think I’ll be able to squeeze CO2 head and 2 carts in their too when they arrive – will update tomorrow when I’ve checked.
Would there be any interest in a cheaper version of the Rapha? I’ve been thinking of busting out the old sewing machine when/if I’ve a bit of spare time in April.
EDIT
‘I need to drink three times my body weight whenever I’m in the vicinity of a bicycle’
Hi 🙂
mustardFree MemberThanks Dougie – I think it’s gotta be done, it’s just taken me a while to talk myself into it!
I never got round to asking for Greigs opinion, maybe he would have goaded me into it sooner!
That’s useful to know about the Kinlins too – carbon for now and I’ll come back to them once I’ve scared myself inside out!
wish i had enough money for 2 sets
sell a kidney?
I think my Hemlock is going to be sold soon to help fund bits for the 29er; I’m embracing the lycra for now.
mustardFree MemberIf Al hasn’t got rid of the 20mm ones he got, and wants to, I’ll go for them. Otherwise, well, you’ve seen how good my decision making has been up to this point!
Manageable, if not ideal
so a bit like when I went back to v’s on the mtb then?!
mustardFree MemberAl – if you’ve not knocked yourself out banging your head on the wall reading all my faffing – have you still got the planet x carbon rims you bought?
I’m daft buying a cheap set of wheels that will just end up being brought out to lob in the back of a support car so I’m going to man up and see how scary braking on carbon is! There, I’ve decided properly and actually and stuff this time.
Planet X carbon tubs
Cheapo hubs from ebay
Some spokesp.s. if all my waffle about the kinlin rims has made anyone want any this place has them in white and they work out at about £40 each including postage. http://www.cnc-bike.de They also have xt hubs for about £40 a pair!
