Sapim spokes are cheaper if you can manage to buy them separately. I got two wheels built with them for less than 64 DTs would have cost to buy on their own!

Agree that the battery and pug adapter are great for carrying minimal kit when traveling, but wasn’t all that impressed with the solar panel even on blistering hot days on my Spanish tour this year. Still worth the money for the rest of the kit.

Murrays tools on Morrison St have what looks like a heavy duty snow shovel in the window – don’t know if that is actually what it is or not though…

I just trawled about and got a reasonably cheap pair of xt centrelock hubs (they were cheaper than the 6 bolt alternative even including the cost of adaptors (Superstar for the cheapest ones)) and had them built onto A319 rims. Can’t remember what it cost but should be within budget. Standing up to some proper abuse on my 29er too!

Hope you’ve all got your British Waterways licence to ride on the tow path! 😉

A319s sfter someone on here said they were the same profile as the TN719 and I got them for £10 each 😀

Survive some monumentally rocky descents on my lightweight tour in Spain earlier this year, so I’m happy. Only broke one of my Sapim spokes -the bloke who builds my wheels swears by them and they cost less for both wheels than DTs for one!

Canny Mann – I’m sure they’d love a bunch of bikers in there, being so welcoming an all!

On a more serious note; Cloisters is a good bet for an ale if we’re ending up Bruntsfieldish or the Caley Sample Rooms ‘cos it’s my local 😀

    Mojo!

Hoping to make it if my audit is done on time, just gotta get home and swap bikes. I’m feeling the need to get out on the bouncy bike.

6 or half past then, eh?

    SBZ – try this http://www.williamsichel.co.uk/documents/Running_Fast_and_Injury_Free.pdf

It’s an interesting read and he’s got a bit of pedigree in the sport. If nothing else it’ll while away a bit of time while you heal.

I’m giving it a go as I get pretty bad shinsplints. I’ve entered The Mighty Deerstalker and my mate (10 years my senior) won’t let me live it down if he beats me again!

ChrisL – that’ll just be the SECC. That big soulless hanger of a place could rip the heart out of even the best bands performances. There would need to be something really-really-once-in-a-lifetime special (or an invite from a hottie 😀 )on to get me to go to another gig there!

Did I not see that GT had pulled out of the deal with Halfords to try and re-establish their reputation?

I’ve no problem with Halfords per se, they do what they do very well, but I think once you have got beyond buying a BSO you will generally get much better service parting with your hard earned at a good lbs.

    Booo!

I’d best put the skinny tyres on the 29er then 😥

There was me about to build up the old hardtail for some street action too – next time eh?

Quoted lumens on all lights, except NiteRider and someone else I can’t remember right now, are the potential max output of the emitter. The other two actually measure their output and tell you that, in fact apparently niterider measure the output of each individual unit before it is sent out!

Me +1 – I work at riccarton if it’d be easier for anyone to go from the west side of town, otherwise see you at the shop.

Think I’ll pack an 8mm hex and put up with the dodgy crank if we’re doing the trail centre.

Cheers for the guiding light providers on the splitters group (Jamie?) and kit. Oh and Mark for the lights in the first place.

The Colinton run was sweet, never knew those steps were there! I nearly went for a swim from the viaduct on my way along the canal, a strobe isn’t the best to see by

Will have some lights of my own by next week, hopefully.

Should be up for a jar on Sat Mark and possibly East Lothian on Sun if the misses is working.

footflaps – where do you add the solar panels? My friends will tell you that my diy electronics skills aren't up there with the best so i'm willing to spend the £35 on the ready made version.

Cheers Druidh. I thought that might be the case, I need it in my hands by Monday so thought I'd best spend the extra for next day. Still a bargain compared to rrp, with the discount code. I'll report back on how it does on my trip.

    Had an absolutely ace weekend!

Met a great bunch of folk, beat the sparkles and DaddyJim in the tug of war, drank a gallon of beer and had a joined Charlie mid race ride for a pic-nic.

Cheers folks, see you next year.

Munzy – The shop is owned by Emma and Tracey too. They also own the jet wash and have it there primarily for cleaning the hire bikes. The fact that the rest of us can pay 50p so we don't have to carry dirty bikes home is a side effect.

I don't necessarily agree with the girls attitude to other companies doing TCL etc at GT, but I can see where they are coming from and I really don't think they've made "a bloody fortune".

They have certainly put a hell of a lot of blood sweat and tears into that place and I genuinely don't think Glentress would be quite what it is today without them.

I recently got some O'Neal Sinner knee pads – so far really comfortable and apparently the SAS-Tec memory foam knee cup is CEN compliant, unlike the d3o in 661 EVOs.
