Fixed the link for you since they aren’t in my size 😉
I think at that price the Diadoras are worth a punt! – p.s. they are road shoes.
mustardFree MemberWe froze up Tala at the first KOM was a really good atmosphere considering how many people were shivering in their lycra!
mustardFree MemberBike Radar have some insurance offer on their site. Haven’t looked into it properly but looks like about £5/month/bike including a sort of extended warranty thing.
I need to look into it properly as none of my bikes are insured in any way shape or form and contents insurance is kinda awkward as it’s a shared flat.
If it covered the bikes abroad too it would be even better as it would mean travel insurance was easier/cheaper.
mustardFree MemberTazzy – where’d you get the serfas bar ends? fancy some as the cane creek’s i’ve got are a bit tubby (not that it’ll make a huge difference but i’m putting the bike on a bit of a diet).
mustardFree MemberYou can still take bikes on teh Eurostar and French trains, in a bag or box, when there are no bike spaces left. I don’t think the French trains charge for it but it was last year I was looking and I might have it wrong.
The London SNCF office were very helpful on the phone.
mustardFree MemberI’ll never be old enough to wear a polo shirt
+1
I’d forgotten about $ue Me; fancy some of their work pants. Their bamboo T’s are nice too. They’re connected to Buff in some way shape of form.
mustardFree MemberIt said in teh stuff ith my Martas only to use Magura organic pads. A condition of teh 5yr leakproof waranty too.
I figured I’d use octopron sintered once the original organic wore out, and stick the worn pads back in if they had to go back under waranty, but the organics are lasting so ridiculously well that I’d now happily stump up for more at full rrp!
Hoping to pick up another set of martas with generous reduction now the new brakes are coming out…
mustardFree MemberShow me another bike with a handmade frame for the same money
How are all the other bikes made? Just because they make them in teh far east doesn’t mean there is some magical robot sticking them together!
mustardFree MemberWhere do you get the Rose FB code? I liked their page but didn’t see/get anything – am I just being a spanner?
mustardFree MemberDruidh – I did have a look at spacepacker but wasn’t convinced.
Basil – I don’t like Terra Nova designs and I think you can get better for the money.
Too late now anyway; Six Moon Designs has been ordered, with the carbon fibre easton poles. Should be less than 1.4kg with plenty of room for two and a palace for one. I just hope it turns up in time!
mustardFree Memberlower house prices in Fife – you name it.
This has to be a factor, I know quite a few people (obviously not a statistically relevant survey) that either have or are planning to move to Fife because you get a hell of a lot more for your money.
Look at the size of Duloch Pk now comparedto a couple of years ago!
mustardFree MemberI think the reason public building projects are treated with such disdain in this country is to do with the total arse that seems to be made in realising them. The trams and parliment are just two examples and they’re both in Edinburgh.
Whereas that bridge in France I can never remember the name of came in early and under budget.
Is it just other countries set budgets and time scales at more realistic levels that allow for some contingency or do contractors in this country under quote in order to get contracts or are contracts better written elsewhere? – that’s a genuine question as I don’t understand how we seem to be consistently poor at seeing through large capital projects.
mustardFree MemberJackrabbit – I did, I used to live in Rosyth 😀
Peterfile – I’m of the opinion that replacing the current bridge with one with exactly the same capacity is short sighted. I think one with additional carriageways and possibly the second rail deck would be a wiser solution. Although I am aware of the arguments about increasing capacity increasing congestion so i’m not really sure what the solution should be.
I actually liked the guy from South Q’ferry’s idea of a sunken tube (fabricated in the shipyard in Rosyth) tunnel, but realise that it wasn’t really a viable option.
To be fair since moving back into Ed and no longer having to commute across the bridge I haven’t kept up with progress. I hope that some sort of wind protection is included in the plans as having to divert via Kincardine, albeit not very often, was a total ‘mare and the number of high sided vehicles which choose to ignore the high wind warnings is shocking and a disaster waiting to happen.
I think they should call in the Fifth Bridge – well it makes me smile at least and is less of a mouthful than Forth Replacement Crossing 😀
mustardFree MemberSmall mercies an all that.
Such a shambles and it could have been great if not for an awful lot of what ifs over the last 6/7 years.
I really hope they succeed and eventually get expanded to the original full vision (preferably with better controlled costs). I know there are alternatives that would have been prefered but it’s too late for that now, so lets embrace what we (will, hopefully, eventually) have.
Fingers crossed the replacement bridge will get a re-think and made into something fit for purpose before it gets too far down the line and too late to change…
mustardFree MemberHow ace would electronic brakes be? no more messy hoses to try and route round your frame, then electronic uppy-downey seatposts…
EDIT – or am I confusing electronic and wireless 🙄
mustardFree MemberI assume rr have given the uci a load of cash so why should they care?
I’ve a vague recollection of something about football and tv money…
mustardFree MemberMy eyes! – I hope that’s the pic dgoab will be using on t blog! 😆
Oh and Yeti, I’m no expert, but i’d probably try to have a variety of things to eat while riding. Shot Blocks are pretty good but if they’re all you’re having during the day you’ll tire of them fast (or melt your teeth!). Have some enegy bars and maybe gels too. Rank tasting caffeine gels are good for emergencies as that way you won’t be tempted to have them unless you really need it.
The Honey Stinger sweets are good too.
I like Clif bars, but noticed the other day they are quite high in fat, so might not actually be that great for during excercise. Torq bars are pretty tasty too.
Nuts and seeds are good for a savory fix, but again I’m not sure what the experts will have to say about that due to the fat content.
mustardFree MemberSorry to take this back to the top of the page but I can’t believe no one else has picked up on it;

Yeti – please show me how you can get 70g of protien, after a Weights session for less than 75p with food off of Sainsbury’s shelves?IIRC thats about £5’s worth of chicken breasts plus the cost/time/inconvienience of cooking it – difficult to do in CYB car park….
Kryton57 – why are you doing a Weights session in CYB car park? I would have though a gym of some sort would have been a much better place for it than a trail centre! I doubt you have the same protein requirements after a lap of a trail centre that you have after a session at the gym, although maybe CYB is more of a workout than the Scottish trail centres, I dont think I’ve been.
mustardFree Memberatlaz – fair point; I’m not really doing any proper research myself, which I’m sure my, former journalist, father would be ashamed of. I do think there is something funny going on though, although it could just be someone who wants to keep a low profile using this guy as a front to support a sport they love, or he could be a marketing genius who is going to make a fortune by selling his brand on to a bigger player and end up getting mountainbiking seen on a far bigger platform than it has had for years. Or it could be something well dodgy… Or it could just be what it claims to be, except they’ve obviously masaged their figures quite a lot!
mustardFree MemberThere was something about Freecaster being asked for some ridiculous figure for the rights, but I can’t remember where I read it and can’t be bothered to trawl through again.
And Druidh is right, all the uproar will just be making their site and FB stats look better, but they can’t hide their history – the dude’s a bartender on his linkedin profile! (unless he’s changed that too). Looks like their Google stats are improving, they are now teh first two hits when you google their name, I don’t think that was teh case yesterday.
Time for some of the bike journos to step up and do some serious investigative journalism, or maybe some of the cycling folk at the Guardian would like to have a dig?
mustardFree MemberDoesn’t look like I’m gonna make it 🙁
That reminds me, must email Aiden…
mustardFree MemberHowever, with rumours about no coverage from Freecaster next year, the ‘reach’ of the advertising has just dived, so even less value in sponsoring the event.
or any other video by teh sounds of it Rocky Road want total control – check the Dirt forum. It sounded like Billy was about to be evicted from the world Champs when I was reading it yesterday.
I can see the trade teams rebelling as the only reason they are there is to advertise their product/brand to the bike buying public. They, well teh DH teams at least, do have form for standing up to the UCI, unless I’m totally mis-remembering that.
If it sticks will we see a Ticket To Ride-esque series forming outside UCI control???
mustardFree MemberNote Shimano’s new CX groupset. I think that is them laying the foundations for new discs as they don’t want to put them into one of their existing road groups.
The fact that Shimano lobied the UCI to change the rules for discs in ‘cross would suggest that they think there is a market, and demand from the racers. I wouldn’t be suprised to see some racers on Shimano prototypes this season, although whether that will be hydro or cable (or one disguised as t’other during development?) I don’t know.
Di2 discs? 😆
mustardFree MemberRumours of Garmin-Cervelo on Eurosport yesterday as Thor has left and he’s been staying with David Millar since leaving the Vuelta.
mustardFree MemberIt always takes me a couple of minutes to stop trying to feather on a concept II 😆
This thread has made me want to row again
mustardFree MemberI was very charming and polite
😯
but isnt TJ the only person in scotlandshire with an english accent
– no we live in Edinburgh almost everyone has an english accent, even the Scots! – apart from me that is I’m desparatly clinging onto the last hints of my norn-irish accent 🙂
mustardFree MemberI decided this morning that if they brought out a Tranny 29er I would sell all I own to get one, but I’ll test one of those for them if they ask nicely! 😆
mustardFree MemberB-rad has been blog here and loved it so much he’s going back next month!
mustardFree MemberI heard somewhere (annual) insurance prices are going up something like a pound a day.
I’m paying £2 a day pretty much, although I have had two bumps in the last two years (both the other parties fault and paid for by them/their insurers). Will be getting rid when my lease is up in May and seeing how I get on without for a wee while. I also have £0 excess on the policy which will increase it a bit but was stung by Swiftcover and their £250 compulsory excess in the small print so decided this was worth it.
Renewing with Admiral was cheaper than any new quote I could find and they have been good to deal with for the two above.
mustardFree MemberNew Alpkit mats are aparently betterer.
Light my Fire spork from most decent camping shops, or I notice Tesco do an imitation one, or if you have an urge to spend there are some nice Ti options.
Good find on teh seatpacks, might have to get myself one of them!
mustardFree MemberJust get an alpkit airlok xtra, not the gourdon rucksac (unless you want it to be more multipurpose). They’ve loops you can run straps through.
With whatever way you choose to do it, just make sure you it is strapped to stop it bouncing too much (annoying) – an extra, wee, strap to the fork crown did for me – and is up away from teh front tyre (just a quick buzz on the tyre will have a hole in it).
Did me fine for a month in Spain last year:
Going on-road this year so panniers (and probably far more stuff than I actually need) this time.
