My mum used to drive army lorries in the 50s. They were taught to park in gear, handbrake off in freezing conditions for just this reason.

Sadly, she still drives as if she’s in a 4 ton truck :-)

I live a mile or so from where HS2 will emerge from the sub Chiltern tunnel. I have no string view either way about HS2 but just want a quick, clear decision. My folks come from Kent and have friends who’s houses were blighted for 20+ years due to indecision.

Let’s hope we get a final decision!

I woke up at 0300, no fault of kids. Back to bed at 0500 and 5 year old starts singing Rudolph The Red Nose Reindeer. Now down again watching Cbeebies Xmas panto. Thank goodness for PVRs!

Thanks Stoner – liked the “Little Bastards”. One for the Dad’s breakfast club (I love them really)

Used Revolutionary earlier this week to put cyanogenmod 7 on my HTC Desire. Reasonably smooth but some of the steps failed as the SD card wasn’t ready after a reboot. I ended up manually specifying which apps to install from SD card. In retrospect I should have used an empty SD card.

The other gotcha was that you need to install the Google Apps. Once that was done it was plain sailing.

Lots of memory now! Good luck.

Anyone got a line drawing of the layout? I can’t quite get my head around it from the photo.

What IHN said. I’ve disabled a number of ringing alarms over the years (parents, friends and my own). No one bats an eyelid if your up a ladder twatting the bell off the wall except to say thank you.

Light application of hot air gun to get some differential expansion? Long piece of wood strapped across the wheel to lever one side off?

I hate Tony. He’s changed me from a contented bridleway basher into an aspiring singletrack rider. He made me get my wheels off the ground, go faster round corners and enjoy speed. How could you do that to me Tony? Won’t someone think of the children?

See you next year Tony – have a good Xmas.

The joys to come – 5 more years before my first asks :O

Holes closing up – my mum used to work at a girls young offender unit. Studs were banned so the girls threaded wool through the holes to keep them open. Cheap tip for a Xmas present?

Chickenman and Bear – any tips for plywood? It really is plywood as floorboards instead of just under the laminate. The house is a late 60s timber frame and everything is just a little bit weird.

Correct, saw along the lengthways gap. The rounded end is how you get started – the saw doesn’t have to go through. You should be OK without a pipe detector as pipes feel very different from wood.

You can also use a circular saw set to a depth of less than floor board thickness. A jig saw would go all they way through which could mean cutting pipes / wires / joists (unless you can find the short blades which doesn’t sound likely).

Perhaps a Dremel will do it :-)

Standard way to nick a motorbike with disk lock is 4 blokes, 2 scaffold poles and a Transit :-(

Have you got a floor board saw ? You need to cut the tounges to lift the boards.

I have a similar problem but with all laminate floor and plywood boards instead of floor boards. Ah, the joy of a 60s house.

Pretty standard. We keep a log book of all medicines administered and it only started dropping off at 3.5 years old (still hasn’t stopped).

If you think its beyond normal then get soem professioanl advice if only for peace of mind.

Good fun but the huts are crowded. Soft shell trousers work well with paclite over trousers if it gets shitty. Go for the lightest pack you can without leaving essentials e.g. Think about whether you want a hut t shirt or whether your spare base layer will do. Bring lots of cash and buy food from the huts rather than lugging a weeks worth. Be prepared to change plans as there’s a good chance you won’t have the weather for all of the route.

    Wildsnow is your friend.

Geko are just out of the bleeding edge phase – might be worth waiting another season to see how the new version works out.

Mohair or nylon is the big choice. Mohair glide better, nylon wears better. Most of my friends have G3 which has an excellent attachment system. I’ve got Montana – seems to work fine.

Make sure one in the party carries a bar of wax in case things get warm and wet!

Because dogs aren’t human or incorporated? Insurance for dog owners seems valid – it’s the owner’s responsibility to control the dog not visa versa (although many dogs seem to be more sensible).

Beware – just because it’s available in your area doesn’t mean its available to all houses. In our village there are 2 green cabinets. BT Openreach upgraded one but not the other. Luckily it was the one closer to me. Unluckily the existing copper goes from my house to the other cabinet, so no FTTC aka Infinity.

    Check your number here.

P.S. If anyone knows how to get Openreach to move a line between cabinets I’d be very grateful.

Our 5 year old doesn’t each much whereas our 3 year old eats like a horse in exactly the same environment. The 5 year old has a fondness for milk – I’ve noticed that when “bad dad” doesn’t let her have any milk until after she’s eaten her food she eats more. The other thing that’s worked is explaining to her that the reason her stomach hurts is because she’s hungry and then going into some detail about what happens if you carry on not eating. We also talk about which bit of the meal is carbs, which protein etc. She now eats fine with me but still plays up with Mrs Murray.

    Good luck.

If you’re only doing a bit of light resort bashing you can get away with touring skis and bindings. If you’re goign to be doing moguls all day, hire dedicated resort skis and bindings!
