Thanks all. I’ve just put in a bid for a Record 23 on Ebay…

Thanks Delibury. I did look on ebay for second hand vices but they seem to go for silly money. Are the old ones really that much better? The one I linked to claims to be made in Sheffield.

Don’t know about that but I live just down the road. The wood was “thinned” in the autumn and is a bit of a mess. Lots of the trails suffered from heavy logging equipment driving across them.

I hope it gets re-instated and would be happy to help. In the meantime there’s always Aston Hill.

Just removed a rack from the wife’s bike. Drilled the head of the bolt (done this loads of times before), drilled a pilot hole with a 2mm drill without snapping the bit and removed using a screw extractor. First time I’ve ever been successful. Key seems to be using new drill bits with frequent cooling. And luck.

    I’m so lucky[/url] :-)

Borris bike – why bother buying? Use it then dump it.

Remember to allow resting time after it comes out of the oven but don’t sit it in a draft to cool down!

I’m glad that Mk 3 Cortinas became obsolete. Mondeos are far better cars in all sorts of ways. For a start it’s now the norm to get 100,000 miles and 10 years out of a car.

Pyrex isn’t what it used to be thanks to crack dealers. Kitchen stuff is now tempered soda lime not borosilicate. Lab stuff’s still the real thing – apparently lab break ins to steal the glassware now happen!

I’d love one but don’t have gnarr to justify it

Capital One 1% on everything, no maximum per year. Amex if you spend enough in places that take it (not nice to retailers, it’s the most expensive card to accept).

18 Bikes sorted me out some lovely gold Pro 2 hubs with Crest rims. Nice guys to deal with.

I was in a similar position last year. Went to the GP, had a liver function test (all OK thankfully) and was given a referral letter to an alcohol charity. I gave up completely for 9 months drinking pints of sparkling water insetad of beer or wine in the evening. The letter was my back stop – every time I thought about drinking I thought about the letter and didn’t. The key for me was realising that I didn’t want to be drunk – it’s boring.

Best of luck and if you want to tlak just email me.

Glad to see the Fat Cat’s still doing well. Had my first raspberry beer there in the 80s.

It’s only fabric and PTFE. Soak overnight in Dettol (strong anti mould ingredient). Also works with ski boot liners and trainers.

If it’s Stockholm or Gothenburg normal “UK Winter” gear is fine. I’m assuming you’ll mainly be inside rather than in a forest for 3 days.

Go for a walk (or cycle or skate) on Djurgarden. Easy walk from Ostermalmstorg metro or basically anywhere in the centre.

<edit>The Vasa museum is also good. Think Mary Rose but sunk on its maiden voyage</edit>

One of my German friends in Stokholm had one as his drinking bike. He’d abandon it anywhere knowing that no one would nick it and if they did it had still cost less than the nights drinks. Happy days!

+1 for clothing. I’ll happily buy a rear mech online but it’s harder to tell if a pair of shorts or top will fit and not look stoopid on me :-)

MIG or TIG weld an alan key in it. The heating will probably free the threads anyway but you’ll get a lot of leverage. Again, make sure it’s a reasonable quality key not an Ikea special!

He may be Scottish but the SNP don’t want him to have a vote in the referendum (not resident in Scotland). At least it’ll prevent Sean Connery voting too.

Wot Stoner said. We’ll inflate it away and our (and all of Europe’s) currency will depreciate compared to the rest of the world.

But we’ll still have wide screen TVs and enough to eat ;-)

My 80 year old mum’s had this for the last few months, escalating to abusive calls. It’s probably a sad loser with no life. If it carries on inform your telco provider (not BT in my mum’s case – sadly some of them are crap) and the police. It may stop the sad loser scaring another old lady.

I was English when I lived in Scotland, Sweden, Russia and Australia so it’s obviously not where you live. I was born in England so that might be it although my American friend’s kids born over here are American. My mum was born in India so by a process of elimination it must be country of father’s birth – he was born in Croydon.

    Who cares? :D

Had some made up at Halfords 4 years ago in store. They were B S marked and I had to provide my documents. Sounds legal to me.

TJ, load following is always seen as a weakness for nukes but the French manage it well across the whole estate.

“France provides a precedent for load-following and load-cycling in Ontario. France has been producing nearly 80 percent of its electricity from its nuclear fleet for many years with the balance coming from hydro and fossil fuels in about equal amounts. France has 58 pressurized light water reactor units on line so the national grid controller can select units that have been recently refueled and have high reserve reactivity so have the flexibility to provide dispatchable load-following, load-cycling, and AGC. Power is varied by so called “grey” control rods and boron use is minimized. Steam bypass is not used for these operations. When units are around 65 percent through their 18 to 24 month fuel cycle they play a diminishing part in load- following and when 90 percent through their fuel cycle they are restricted to baseload operation. CANDU flexibility is not affected by fuel burn-up limitations since it is refueled on-line.”

Used to have the same thing with my motorbike alarm/immobiliser. Consistently failed to work in one Shell petrol station. Not so bad with a motorbike but saw several cars pushed off the forecourt to start.
