I’m an electrician,I turn up for jobs 5 mins early, work tidily and professionally and try not to inconvenience any customers.
We’re not all bad but there does seem to be a higher proportion of people that do the opposite in the trades.
I now work for the organisation that oversees the training of electrical apprentices and try to instill in them the need for professionalism and good communication.
It’s not easy with whole classes of bored looking and seemingly indifferent 17 year olds though!

Exact same thing happened to my mate a few weeks ago! Started a small fire and ruined walls/carpet/doors in his hallway. His blew just as he was going to bed, had the fire brigade out and got a stern lecture.

I charge mine under a sturdy bucket on the slabs outside my garage, fed via an rcd socket.
Totally trust my gloworm battery, wouldn’t trust my solarstorm one as far as I could throw it!

Low voltage all the way, you could chew through the cable and not even notice ;-)

Do you have test equipment to verify that the modified circuit will still operate within it’s design criteria? Ie, will the circuit breaker still trip in time after you have extended the earth conductor down to the bottom of your garden?

Confidence is great but it can’t beat actually understanding what you are working with.

Sorry if this sounds abrupt, I’ve seen far too many diy bodge jobs that have the potential to kill :-(

Or you could run it along the back of the wall in earthed steel conduit or heavy gauge pvc conduit.
Butyl flex is rated for outdoor use but has no mechanical protection.
FP200 would be ok if you could get some in a dark colour but still doesnt have much In the way of protection.

Twin and earth isn’t rated for use outdoors. The weather will make it brittle the insulation will snap if it gets moved.

Use swa as you can bury it, it’s waterproof and provides mechanical protection too.

It’s your decision but after having had a couple of shocks as an apprentice I would do everything possible to minimise the risk!

My cousin died of MND a couple of years ago, her husband had remarried within 18 months.
It seemed pretty soon to me but I guess he had had a long time to come to terms with her illness and subsequent passing.
Can’t judge till you’ve been faced with the same situation I guess :-(

I seem to remember that the mk2 mx5 was the one to avoid?
They have double skinned chassis rails that trap moisture and rot from the inside out. By the time its visible the chassis rails are orange dust right through!

Not quite the same but I have an 08 Stumpjumper. I replaced the brain shock with a Fox RPL. Cheaper and easier to service and has made it a better bike to ride (IMO).

A word of warning to those with cheaper battery packs:
My mate had his battery pack start sizzling and then explode. Proper explode, burned walls/floors/carpet/doors, fire brigade out too!

Charge mine outside under a sturdy bucket now!

I’ve got 2 and have been using them since March, not serviced or cleaned either and both still work as they did when new.

There is loads of good natural trails round Drum, give us a yell if your back this way and I’ll try and get you a guided tour. Abriachan drains well so I tend to go there in the winter, get the Mrs to drop me off, do a couple of laps then pedal home down the GGW.

Great pics. I live in Drumnadrochit, the climb up to Abriachan is much more fun the other way round. A great wee descent!

Car tyres: Inverness tyres are good.
Garage, Subaru garage in Beauly are great, there is a place near the BMW garage that is also good but I can’t remember the name!
Electrician: me? Not self employed though so can only work for magic beans/90’s XTR kit in case hmrc get wind :-)

Your not far from Contin, get round there for a pedal!

I lost a cable for mine, sent an email about lunchtime and had a new one through the letterbox next morning, foc!

One of the connections in my battery failed, had it replaced in a similarly quick time.

    2 thumbs up from me!
    (Lights are great too)

Really? I’ve got some Easton/Answer Hyperlites from 1995. Should I stop using them? Other bars are from late 90’s and 2008.
Better call my dentist and warn him ;-)

How often does a genuine opportunity like this come along for any country?
I can see how people would be jealous knowing they are stuck with the same old corruption and 2nd rate treatment with no hope of real change.
Whether we sink or swim as a free country only time will tell but will see how the vote goes first.

I saw a brand new 2-11get side swiped right in front of me at a trackday, saw the owner later looking decidedly unhappy!
Might even have a vid buried somewhere.

As above but with a round metal tube, 25mm metal conduit.
I have a length of threaded rod with a couple of big/thick washers and a couple of nuts.

I’ve got rear wheels but only normal old skool QR ones.
I’m just south of Inverness, you can borrow my ’08 Stumpjumper if it fits, and leave your bike as a deposit.

I’ll be standing at the boat club in Ft Bill with my blunderbuss charging you a fortune to get in!
No English notes will be accepted of course, just a snooty expression and a “What is that?”

It’s fairly straightforward to get an adult apprenticeship as a sparky. I’ve got people on the adult apprentice scheme in their mid 30’s-40’s. That’s in Scotland though, where about are you?
It’s a good job with potential to lots of different things and money can range from good to great.

After we vote yes we’ll rebuild Hadrians wall in the style of the Berlin wall with one wee door to let native Scots back in.

I was in a similar position and bought myself a Gibson Flying V. It’s a timeless design, a work of art (to me!), practical ( as long as you play guitar) and even if I gave up and never played again it would still look great hanging on the wall :-)

That, my steel Kona that I bought new and a couple of watches given to me as gifts are the only things I’m a bit sentimental about and will never sell.

I’ve got a Gloworm X2 which I’ve been using happily the last couple of years. Just bought a £15 solarstorm for the bars, can’t have too much light.
Will charge it with my Gloworm charger and if the batteries are duff I can build a pack with some spare cells I have from a laptop battery.
    Roll on the dark nights!

Oh, and I’ve still got my Trek Y bike too but I’m not at all sentimental about that, just haven’t got round to a clear out of my parents garage!

I hope I’ll always have my old Kona, had it since new (1996) and I’ve done a lot of things and been a lot of places with it.
It holds a lot of memories and still rides brilliantly and if it ever snaps It’ll looks great hanging on my garage wall :-)

I’ve got 80mm Fox RL 80’s on mine.
Nice and light, work well and haven’t changed the handling.

Oh, on a 1996 Cinder Cone.

She doesn’t normally dress like that, certainly not the time I met her. If she had I’d have probably crashed!

On a side not she was very friendly and chatty and very, very quick!
(Although I’m not that quick, for comparison)

I’ll be selling mine soon and hope to get £1500 upwards. They are fairly rare in stock/well looked after condition.
Ebay with no reserve will decide its value.

How about buying an old nokia with a battery that will laat a week? Just use your existing sim card in it.

No use if you’re actually looking to use the smartphone functions of your phone of course!
