Hate to be a pedant CountZero but that’s actually an Octocopter.

My quad randomly fell from the sky today, not sure if it was the super cold temperatures. Off shopping for new landing legs…

My mate has just moved to the Yukon, it’s -37 at the moment!
He’s keeping a close eye out for Lisa’s truck :)

Lucky it didn’t hit your Impreza, claim would probably have gone 50/50 then!
My insignia company car has a wee habit of rolling away itself, hunk of crap!

But make sure you get the latest version, amendment 3 is now out and has a yellow cover. I’ve got 56 in the boot of my car to drop off at work this week, hopefully get a quiet moment to have a squint through it.
Do building control come out during the course of the build to see how you are wiring it up? Do they look over your cable calcs and check if they are buried in insulation etc etc?

And on a more serious note, a look at my test results by someone experienced enough to interpret them will prove that the cables are undamaged. We also get an annual niceic inspection where they pick jobs at random and go to inspect them. If you had any concerns about work I’m sure they would arrange a “random” check.

To find someone you can trust take local recommendations and get someone that takes pride in their work.

Flaperon, your welcome to watch me work if you want? You can measure the distance between cable clips and do a wee vid for everyone else :)

18 weeks per year in blocks of 5 or 6 weeks.
Once your oversized cables are all fitted and connected how do you determine if the supply authority earth is of an appropriate impedance? That’s right, you get someone with appropriate test equipment and training to do it for you. Like I said before, it’s easy to get something powered up but it doesn’t mean it’s safe.
Oh and cable sizes/types are selected depending on various factors none of which is the size of protective device. Back to YouTube I guess…

Takes five minutes to look up.

I often wonder why apprentices bother to spend 4 years at college when they can learn everything on YouTube in 5 mins.

Op, don’t worry about the safety of your family or any visitors, just fling it in yourself. As long as the lights work it must be safe…right?

Good luck smuggling anything with my quad, a battery only lasts 11 minutes!
F450 frame, 920kv motors, 2.2 batteries and a kk flight controller.

My quad cost about 150 all in plus 35 for a good lipo charger. I think fpv kit would be about another 100 on top of that for a cheap setup.

I’d not connect and sign off a job that someone else had wired. How do you know they are clipped/supported properly, no damage to them and that they are in appropriate safe zones? Who pays for fault finding if a cable is damaged?

Anyway, is it lathe and plaster walls or solid stone strapped and plasterboarded?

In Scotland we have an adult apprentice scheme for electricians. A lot of employers look for adult apprentices as the can be much more focussed and disciplined than a 16 year old! If that sounds of interest then I have plenty of info to share :)

I built a quad recently for £150. It flies well (despite having me as a pilot!) And I’ve just Velcro/tie wrapped my action can onto the frame.
For the difference in cost vs extra features I’d build a kit any day!

Not used an etrex but my Dakota 20 is a great unit. Get a mobile phone screen protector and you’ll be dandy.

I got a 2nd gen motog at tesco online about a month ago. It was part of the club card boost promotion so using vouchers I got it for £77! It’s a great phone and I seem to remember is splashproof too. Dual sim slot is handy and its not filled with non google bloatware like my old Galaxy S3!

I’ve fitted a few 3kw Zip heaters and found the flow rate not very good. It slows to a trickle when the supply water is very cold, is most of the winter.

Check the price/availability of spares. My Accord type R had a receipt for £230 for a rear abs sensor when I looked through its history folder.
    Ouch!

Could be the transformer has burned out. Have you access to a multimeter? Test the fuse first, sometimes they look OK but the fuse element has blown.
Would you be confident in opening the case with the power turned off and measuring the output voltage from the transformer?
Don’t take any risks if you’re unsure!

Hate to be a fanboi but there have been a couple of times that I’ve had to contact Danny and his replies and subsequent action have been beyond rapid. I lost the charger extension cable and had a new one on my doorstep within 20 hours of emailing, foc!

I’ve an Insignia as a work car. It’s not that great with bikes despite its size. Can get a frame in the boot with one rear seat folded down but you’d be better with a roof rack. Things randomly stop working and it keeps rolling away when the electronic handbrake is supposed to be on.
Makes me miss my WRX Impreza wagon even more :(

I loved them, just started reading them to my own kids now.
Dingo Dog was my favourite and Lowly worm was a close 2nd. It’s only as an adult I think about and realise the meanings of the names. Ie, Goldbug really is a wee gold bug!

I just got a 2nd gen Moto G and it’s brilliant. Best feature so far is the dual sim card slot, no more carrying a 2nd phone for work :)

A Jackson king v kv10?, I sold one a couple of years ago for £150 but I had fitted active pickups which were worth £100 alone.
I’d aim for £150 and see what happens, it was a nice playing guitar and pretty robust.

Chippy must be less than 3/4 of a mile, in a straight line. Maybe I could leave a spare battery with them to fit when they load my dinner on.
What’s a good forum to start with, the quad equivalent of STW!

I had read about the restrictions on flying them but being in the Scottish Highlands space is abundant. I’d like something that could carry a small HD camera or maybe long term send it to the chippy with a wee hook on the bottom for fish supper attachment…

    Thanks for the advice chaps!
A lot of the fun/challenge will be building and setting it up so not worried about being time consuming and that is why I’d avoid a rtf model.

The Chinese model I linked to seemed viable as despite being a clone it is cheap enough to allow me to buy a good spec flight controller if the one that came with it was junk, presuming the rest of the bits would be pretty similar to the more expensive ones.

I’ve just finished building my own 6×4 workshop. The satisfaction gained from standing back, admiring it and knowing that you built it is worth all the late evenings!

Surely £4-5k would get you a bespoke building by builders?

I built a 6×4 shed thingy this summer but I got carried away and it’s now like a mini house.
Concrete base, built with 4×2, fully insulated, lined with larch, corroline roof, power and data cables with plasterboarded internals and a wee breakfast bar for me to work from.
Total cost is sub £1k so surely you can get one made for £5k? Slightly skewed figure though as the concrete was hand mixed = Cheap.Wife’s Dad runs a sawmill = wood at cost price. My Dad is a retired joiner and ran the construction/maintenance dept of a hotel chain. I’m a sparky with a desk job = cheap cable. Labour = free

Need gutters to finish it and then plumbing for the washing machine/tumble dryer but I’m pretty chuffed with it, even the roof trusses were hand made :)

I always liked that in the 3rd film when they got back to 1985 Clayton ravine had been re-named after Doc stopped Clara Clayton from being killed there.

    BTTF geek!
