Maintenance Electrician in an Aluminium smelter.
Aced the interview and technical tests, offered the job, given a starting date, passed the medical assessment, quit my old job and then got a phone call to say that they were retracting the job offer due to my mild asthma (despite all the lung function tests in my medical being fine!)

Had to go un-quit my old job sharpish!

Presuming your bedroom walls are sloping and the bit of wall under your dormer is vertical then their should be a void in behind the vertical section of wall. Also called a coomb I seem to remember.

I’d go option 3 with an inline fan mounted in the dormer void of the upstairs bedroom. I recently fitted one from Screwfix in a mates house to solve a damp bathroom. It’s dual speed, pretty quiet and could sook an apple through a letter box!

I work managing electrical apprenticeships in Scotland and have several classes of adult apprentices. It’s a good route to go down and getting more popular with employers.
If you want to leave your email address then I’ll try and point you in the right direction :)

I honestly despair about some of the things some people deem acceptable!

Both mine are still working great, almost 2 years of grimy Scottish crud…

Even if they chained a bike to your first born son, it’s still totally unacceptable to tamper with a QR skewer.
Fingers crossed they leave it there on a regular basis, OP’s head explodes with rage and the rest of the street ignores the minor trivialities of modern life.

For balance, I’m a sparky and I’m almost OCD like in my timekeeping and attendance!
Poor timekeeping from anyone in any job above the age of 16 is just rude and ignorant!

Have you maybe damaged the cable feeding the oven? I can’t see how it can trip the MCB with the ovens turned off?

I’ve used dimmers in the past that have a wee fuse but they were commercial spec ones from years ago.
Likely its just failed and needs replaced.

Tried the credit card, dug it out to find it expired in 2011.

Apparently it’s part of a weekly deal which presumably ends tomorrow, will the price go back up if I add it to my basket and buy it when I get paid next week?
Anyone have prior experience of these deals?
Curse my wife for buying all the Xmas presents early this year and leaving me devoid of bike cash!

I gave up looking! I got a Shimano road 34t ring, alloy with no ramps/pins and was only £5. Fitted a Superstar chain guide and running an 11-32 9 speed cassette with an old XT non-clutch mech and I’ve never dropped the chain yet :)

I’ve RSP plummets on 2 bikes, coming up for 2 years. Both still working great :)

Surely if they stopped at the end of the section after that behavior you would mention it to him? Rather than bottle it up and go home to bleat about it on the internet? Sounds like that forum is the rambler equivalent of Sidetrack ;)

Is there not some issues with the DSG gearbox on that version? Might be worth googling.

I once went for an interview at Dyson. As we left the interview room, I made small talk asking if they got a discount on Hoovers…. I didn’t get the job

My mate used to work there, he would never ever call them Hoover’s. We used to try and catch him out after a few drinks but he never broke and always called them vacuum cleaners :(

I’ve a Roland micro cube as a wee house amp, it’s brilliant and really versatile. I’ve wired it so I can run it through a 4×12 cabinet too :)

Can you not get some type of 12v tank heater run off an external temperature sensor? Maybe I’ve just found something for Dragons den…

For the amount of cash specialized charged to service mine, it bloody well better have a unicorn in it!

Agreed, I’m equally as slow on my newish stumpjumper as I am on my 1996 CinderCone! I find the Kona is actually quicker if the type of trail suits it and I use it just as much as my full suspension Stumpy.
Certainly doesn’t feel outdated, just rides differently.

We’ve a Burley D’lite (I think!) 2 seater. I’ve 2 boys who are now 4 1/2 and 2 1/2. Both have been in it since 6 months old and still fit now. I love it and the kids love it as well, one of the best baby related buys we’ve made. Gives the wife a rest, kids have fun and I get to pedal!

Eldest rarely goes in it as he’s been riding his own bike for the last year or so but still loves it when he is allowed a shot!

I borrowed a Chariot Cougar before I bought mine, the seatbelts were better and the suspension was a boon but they cost a fortune and it didn’t seem worth it as the Burley is 80% as good and was £80 second hand.

    Get one!

Get in touch with Samsung and complain. I bought a broken Samsung with a view to fixing it myself but found through Google it was a common fault.
I emailed Samsung who asked me to drop it off at their local approved repair centre, a week later got it back fixed fully and for no charge!
It was 2nd hand and 4 years old at that point!

Their first album is my favourite, the first album I ever bought, at the tender age of 8!
I’m sure my country and western loving Dad and classical music Mum were delighted ;)

A weekend in a log cabin (with jacuzzi) near kirroughtree would be what I’d do. We did this when our wee one was 8 months old. One day cycling on my own and the next with wife and wee one in trailer.
Not for my 40th though as I was only 31 then, you might want more of a keepsake though.

Peebles hyrdro is lovely though and comrie is nearby…

Fit a couple of fire alarm sounders and a strobe inside, controlled by a door operated switch.

A hidden override switch outside the shed to stop yourself getting deafened every time you go to get your bike :)

I can’t help with any of your issues, I’ve no experience at all. I have an old Trek you can have though, if you felt that MTBing helped you feel better.

I met her in a pub in Fort William, she’s chatty, down to earth and quick witted. Was a fan before I met her and after seeing the road her life took and an apparent turnaround I have even more admiration :)

Shameless plug: I’m about to flog a mk4 Golf 1.6 petrol estate, it’s been a great wee bike wagon for us.

Oh, and I have a 2.2 tyre on the back with still a bit of clearance, the old Kona’s were designed really well :)

I have a ’96 Kona Cinder Cone with 1×9 gears and a modern Fox 80mm fork. I have a front disc brake and a Magura on the back. It rides really nicely and the front disc doing most of the braking means it’s not really a disadvantage.
Best of both worlds, having modern gear on an older frame.

One on my Stumpjumper has needed serviced, the one on my hardtail still smooth.

I’m a bit of a TV luddite, mostly it’s just kids programs that are on so just the basic Freesat channels will do. Are humax a fairly safe bet then? Can you record one channel and watch another?

I’ve still got a Frosties reflector, it’s now on my 4 year olds bike, handed down through generations.
    Sort of!

My favourites were the wee submarines that you filled with bicarbonate of soda. They sank in the bath and then bubbled back up to the surface!

    Inverness!
A bit further north than you had hoped but you could fly down to visit family.

he population of greater Inverness grew from an estimated population of 51,610 in 2003 to 62,470 at the time of the 2011 Census.[1][5] Inverness is one of Europe’s fastest growing cities,[6] with a third of the Highland population living in or around the city[7] and is ranked fifth out of 189 British cities for its quality of life, the highest of any Scottish city.[8] In the recent past, Inverness has experienced rapid economic growth – between 1998 and 2008, Inverness and the rest of the central Highlands showed the largest growth of average economic productivity per person in Scotland and the second greatest growth in the United Kingdom as a whole, with an increase of 86%.[9] Inverness is twinned with one German city, Augsburg and two French towns, La Baule and Saint-Valery-en-Caux.[10]

Inverness College is the main campus for the University of the Highlands and Islands.[11] With around 8,500 students, Inverness College hosts around a quarter of all the University of the Highlands and Islands’ students, and 30% of those studying to degree level.[12]

In 2014, a survey by a property website described Inverness as the happiest place in Scotland and the second happiest in the UK.[13]

I’ve taken my bike into a few hotels. Leave the wheels in the car and carry the frame in wrapped in a sheet.
I don’t even ask and give them the opportunity to say no, just stride past reception and into the lift with my head held high!
