Went to Golspie on Wednesday for a pedal in the sun, had a great ride.
Went to Ft William yesterday and watched a bit of the SDA race, then went for a cycle round the witches trails with the Wife.
Despite having grown up and lived in Ft William for 20 years, I’m still amazed at how much it can rain there!

Your mains supply goes into your meter.
Two separate supplies leave the meter. One for Econ7, the other is live all the time. These separate supplies go though the two double pole isolators.

The mains tails then go from each isolator into their respective fuse board.

It’s hard to tell as I can’t zoom in on the pic but it looks like the LHS isolator supplies the domestic DB and the RHS feeds the Econ7 DB.

Each DB also has an isolator of it’s own, the black switch at the left of the DB.

My advice, get a sparky in before you blow yourself up ;)

Or at least a proper voltage tester to make sure it’s not live!

I’ve got a Deore DX thumby on my 96 Cinder Cone. Set to friction mode as I’m running 1×10.

    Works well, looks cool :)

I have a vague memory of the Challenger disaster, I was 6.

I’ve a vivid memory of the night of the Lockerbie plane crash, I remember watching it all on the news, it probably struck me more as it was in Scotland and relatively close to home.

Agree to sell it to the guy for £100, get his address, go round with the phone, burn his house down. Blame it on faulty phone.

Karma/Eye for an eye etc etc

Or, sell the phone back for £100 and the go to the original seller to get him to refund the difference.

Or, punt it on eBay for spares?

I’m a patient chap, Ben. I’ve had the bike 21 years so I’d be happy to book it in for whenever you’re free ;)

Wasn’t a white BMW that was involved, was it?
An eerily similar thing happened in my village today!

My sister has a 2.0 TDi Scirocco and got the software update done. Yesterday the EGR shat itself so she’s booked it into VW after I told her about the extended warranty on emissions system components.
Fingers crossed they sort it FOC!

The guy selling this is local to me. It’s in absolutely mint condition, as are the other few 80’s classics that he has.

All said though, I’d be very surprised if it actually sold for that amount!

Edit: Having checked his other items, he’s selling his RS1600i and Fiesta RS Turbo as well. Looks like he’s about to make a fair bit of cash, all three are mint and now pretty rare.

OT: You can see my old High School in the background of the Fiesta pics!

On roughly the same topic, I’ve been after someone to weld a rear disc mount to my 1996 steel Kona and then respray it.
I tried Shand but they are not doing repairs/paint as they are so busy with their own bikes.
Anyone have any suggestions? I stay near Inverness but travel all over Scotland for work.

I’m 5ft10 and a large Stumpy fit me perfectly. My last bike was a medium 2011 Stumpy so I assumed the new one would need to be medium too.
When I tried both I found the large a much better fit.

Brilliant bikes, I’m delighted with mine :)

Enjoy the road while it’s there. Get some timing gear and charge the local Ned’s to use it as a drag strip?

Or start an R/C car/plane club?

    :)

My 6 year old has a specialized hotrock 20.
He’s delighted with it, it’s a great wee bike.
I got it for £40 2nd hand in pretty decent nick, just needed new cables/brake blocks :)

I work all over the Highlands and go to Golspie quite often. It’s a great place but can be pretty savage in winter, like the time I struggled to the top and found the top section of the descent axle deep in snow!

I think my best time for a full lap is just over an hour (was late for getting home!) and I think I’ve cleared the lactic ladder with no dabs about 2 or 3 times, It’s not easy!

    What day are you going?

Thanks to Aide and all the other marshalls/organisers :)
I did 4 laps as part of a pair (8 in total) and cleared Heartbreak hill 3 times out of the 4, (had to push the last 20m) as I cheerfully predicted to the marshall on lap 3!

My lap times were much more consistent that when I did it in 2015 (was ill and missed last year) and I was between 10 and 15 mins quicker per lap, happy with that :) Last time I checked we were 16th out of 50 in our category.

Great atmosphere, good weather (I did my last lap before the monsoon!) and really good fun :)

Does anyone have links to the timing and any picture websites?

There are also trails at Abriachan, just down the A82. I stay in Drumnadrochit, 12 miles south. It’s a great wee place to live and we’ve got a decent network of natural trails built :)
Feel free to pop down for a visit, always happy to show people around.

I bought a Stumpjumper 650b about 6 weeks ago. Compared to my previous bike, a 2011 Stumpjumper, it feels brilliant. Couldn’t be happier with it, other than the slightly garish paint which was compensated for by £1300 off list price :)
I’m 5ft 9 and went for a large, all my previous bikes have medium, definitely try a size up from normal.

I took my son in a trailer from 8 months, round Kirroughtree (not the rough techy bits!), Carron Valley and various forest roads.
That was in a Chariot cougar, he was well supported with enough head control. He was delighted with it, is almost 6 now and still begs me to take him out in the 2 seater Burley that I got when son No.2 came along.

Just take it easy and he/she will be fine. My wife is a physiotherapist and ok’d it all so that was enough for me :)

I saw a child size Jackson Dinky in my local guitar shop. Had a wee look and the quality looks good, I had a full size Dinky and loved it.

I’ve got a set on both bikes, 6-8 years old and stood up to the worst Scottish weather/mud.
One rear needed trued and a couple of spokes snapped, lbs had straight pull spokes of correct length in stock for 50p each, just not the flat blade mavic ones.

    Get them :)

How using one of the explosive dye packs that they use to protect cash in transit?
Put in a jewellery box in your drawer, once it’s been activated there will be no denying it ;)

On a serious note, good luck. I was a bothersome teenager and my parents stuck it out, I like to think I turned out ok :)

Last time I went to see my Dad he gave me a 15 year old Golf TDi and a chainsaw!
I like his stories about the old days but have to admit I’ve heard some of them a few times…

I remember getting a call out to check a commercial freezer in a frozen food shop. The outer case of the machine was 100v to earth.
Turns out the earth of the supply flex had snapped inside the plug and when the windings had started to fail on the 25 year old compressor and leak to earth then the outer case became live but without an earth path wouldn’t trip the circuit breaker.
A few customers had complained about it but the staff had told them it must be a static shock from synthetic clothes!

Cut the cable off flush with the back of the machine so they can’t just fit a new plug. Time for a new machine, not worth the risk!
