There are some well cute pics on here and I would love the companionship of a dog, take it running/cycling! Friends have a lurcher cross of some sort and I love her. She comes MTBing around Afan and is so well trained that she will run behind us all on the DH’s. She disappears into the trees, whistle and she returns to run along side you! She’s brilliant and so does NOT get in the way and runs all the way around to sleep int he caff at the end and get a sausage sandwich!!

thing is despite Molly dog I’m terrified of dogs, I’ve spent a lot of time trying to overcome my absolute fear but it just doesn’t work. As long as it doesn’t bark at me or jump at me i’m okay … except for big dogs which scare the bejesus out of me! I know people say a dog can sense fear .. but what else can I do if I’m terrified!!

Guess I’ll just have to look at all the cute pics and dream.

Not too bad to get to Avoriaz however I don’t know what time you’d be able to get there with the lifts as they probably just start for the PDS. Previously we had a friend who had a ticket to start elsewhere but he just played pretty and dump in Morzine and they let him start there.

(Mr M-C posting) its my 8th summer in Portes du soleil and I last did the organised ride when it was called the Freeraid (maybe 6 years ago?). Me n M-C then tried to re-trace the loop a year or 2 later, and I got confused between “my” loop and the signposted permanent (and slightly different) PdS loop. then the chatel chair shut for about 2 hours due to thunderstorms…

I wouldnt dream of riding it without a full face. M-C did on her first year and came off on the les gets 4X and made a mess of her face (and more importantly the Smith glasses I’d lent her . Ive had a few big offs over the years (broke a foot, dislocated a shoulder, and a couple of concussions in separate years) and have slowly acquired kit to the extent I now own the Dainese Pro Shuttle one piece full body suit. Got my moneys worth last year when I came off one of the highest bits of woodwork in Chatel bike park…

Along with the usual bits I’ll be carrying spare dropouts and jockey wheels (again the voice of bitter experience) and some cheapy but goody walkie talkies which are good for easing the worry after waiting for someone for what seems like too long.

SammyC get in touch with MC nearer the time I’m sure we’ll make you welcome. And if you kick are arses we’ll both deny it on here :-)

Full face all the way it’ll give you that extra bit of protection, never bother taking XC lid with me. I’m super excited as I love Morzine but just not done the official PDS before. Should be a good un, guessing me and Mr MC will potter off on our own then by the sounds of it! as I actually want to make it around.

I was guessing it must be a DH bike but that still seems small. I can’t imagine riding a 13″ DH bike, would just be crazy! each to their own and all that.

Let’s hope the weather holds for Passporte on 26th!! You’ll have to start giving us a weekly trail and weather up date in the run up …. sun makes such a massive difference to a great holiday and the trails.

Well we are supposed to be doing it in a group of maybe 10, however most of the blokes are doing it on the Saturday to fly around, mainly because the other 2 girls (not me) aren’t really DHilers and probably won’t make it round at all!! I want to make it round and my skills at DHing are way better than theirs and I know technically I can handle the trails. I have a funny feeling me and Mr MC may end up off on our own, as the girls won’t make it and the boys will stay will stay with them (being boyf’s) and since they’ve done it hte day before (we aren’t!!!).

Oh and does anyone know about the freebie points on the chip lift pass? I know you get bonus points, does anyone know how many bonus points get you a free days lift pass? As we have 90 odd points each and wondered if that’ll get us a free day, as they haven’t told us each year. Yet last year a mate was told to use her points but we can’t remember how much you get. I know it’s a lot more in the winter say 300 instead of 90 … any helpers!!?

    Man I’m waffling now….getting tired!

In 2000 I completely tore my cruciate ligament in my right knee playing competitive rugby, my god it was THE most painful think I’ve ever done. I had an arthroscopy originally as they thought it was cartilege damage but turns out it wasn’t it. When I came around from op I remember the Surgeon saying to me “do you ski?” me: “No” s: “Good cos you’ll never ski again”. He explained that I should have reconstructive surgery where they slice your leg open from hip to below knee, tear off strips of your muscle and sow it through the knee cap to create a new ligament. He said it would be 6 weeks off my feet completely. I was going into my final year of uni so decided it wasn’t the best time to do it, then ended up getting a new job in London so never got around to it. Spoke to Surgeon about NOT having surgery and he just said if you keep your quads and hamstrings strong you MAY not have a problem, but you will not be able to do any sports which involving twisting, so football, rugby etc etc, but rowing and cycling (my other 2 sports) would be fine.

9 years on I rarely have problems with my knee having never had the reconstructive surgery. In the cold it gets a bit sore, if I do a lot of running it gets a little sore. Cycling no problems, running 10ks maybe 3-4 times a week no problem, never want to run any further as I’m paranoid pounding pavements will knacker it completely.

About 4 years ago I decided I wanted a ski holiday, since I remembered the Surgeon saying I couldn’t ski I decided to try snowboarding, no problems at all and been every year since.

So there you go I dont’ really have many problems, the Surgeon bigged it up to me and made it appear and seem to me like my sporting lifestyleways over … clearly not!!!!

I was always told that physio was pointless for ligament/cartilege damange, I never had any, especially as mine is completely torn.

Good luck and keep us posted on your diagnosis.
Oh PS the only thing I can’t do is sit cross legged, or kneel on the floor! way too painful!

I have got a completely torn ACL ligament in my right knee. I didn’t go for major reconstructive surgery as (a) it was at the wrong point of my life and I couldn’t be off my feet for 6 weeks and (b) was too lazy to go under the knife. I was told to build up hamstring and quads and I wouldn’t have any problems. Well about 2 1/2 years later my knee suddenly started locking up and I got some acupuncture. Was brilliant, I didn’t have any other treatment and afer maybe 6 weeks it made a huge different.

Mr MC had a back problem and had some acupuncture which wasn’t quite so effective however he believes that it is because his problem were to do with bone rather than muscualture however it did help him relax a bit. I think in your situation it’s definately worth a go.

Keep us posted on how you get on, would be intruiged to know.

I have never had breakdown cover however when I discovered you can get RAC with Tesco points I decided to splash out (as I have a motorbike as well and I guess slightly more important sometimes having a motorbike and cover). It’s great £34 of vouchers gets us joint reoadside recovery and something which would cost something like £120!!! bargain … I don’t know what else to use my clubcard points for as all the holidays/hotels etc always look so complicated to arrange!

I can’t believe people don’t put sunscreen on for what they perceieve as “minor” things, you would’ve thought that skin cancer was publicised enough! Remember it’s one of the worst as they just have to keep hacking away, cutting the skin until the surrounding areas are clear! skin cancer is like an octupus it has it’s centre and then tendrils out. I’m sure Fat simon Mk 2 is thinking along the same lines as me. It’s NOT pleasant.
Just put some sunscreen on it’s not hard!

No they are bonkers!! I am a size 30 waist which is allegedly what the large are, they came through and I could fit 2 small children into them as well, sent them back. NEver got the medium though as I couldn’t be bothered to keep getting some through to try them on to send them back again. I’d probably go down a size.

I’m glad everyone is dissing him so I don’t soudn like a bitchy woman! But when I saw that I thought very manly and gross! Women shouldn’t have super muscles like that it’s rank! Now I’d have a six plack like Kelly Sotherton or Denise Lewis, super toned without being MANLY!

OO those 661’s look like they might fit the bill, I guess you can buy them from CRC and send them back if they don’t fit. He desperately needs a pair before we go to Morinze for PduS as he ripped through his 10 year old ones recenly so his little toe hangs out!!!

keeping items without taking reasonable steps to identify the owner is theft by finding. Even if there were no numbers left on it (or the battery is too flat/handset is locked for you to find the numbers) you should still be able to identify the phone by the IMEI printed inside.

You should be able to search for it on

    http://www.immobilise.com/index.php

Or you can hand it in to the police and make it their problem, if it isnt claimed you get what the law refers to as first baggsies.

Okay now I think Mr MC has picked the frame .. he now has to choose some forks. Looking at something reasonably lightish with 140 mm of travel? Suggestions anyone?

He was looking at these but knows nothing about them:
Rockshox Revelation 426 dual air: http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=29870

or Manitou Minute Elite Absolute 140mm

I read Of Mice and Men as my GCSE book and loved it! Maybe not if I read it now though, who knows.

Right just finished Perfume, the lat 40 pages were brilliant, why couldn’t the whole book be like that! But having to read the preceeding 220 pages just to get to the last 40 doesn’t make it worth it .. .shame!

I’m a strongly against people wandering in a marriage however to make it a crime? I don’t think so, think about it realistically I know loads and loads of people who have an extra marital affairs, whether they were caught is a different matter. I can honestly hold up head up and say I’ve never been unfaithful (and I’m not even married).
But to make it a crime, I know it’s extremely painful, humilitating etc etc but to push her down the stairs! I mean come on a bit excessive!!! IMO.

Before people think I am, I’m not agreeing with the sentence but what was the offence he was convicted of, as will have an impact on sentencing? I’m guessing they couldn’t stick a charge of attempt murder (have to prove intention to kill) so maybe it was S20 GBH carries maximum of 5 years, or s18 GBH with intent which carries life (in theory). Still absolutely shocking!!! What has happened to our country!
