IIRC the Arc drop
was one of his annual New Years Eve red bull stunts, the year before he set the world record with a 300ft jump, which looks like CGI its so far

>I found the shoot 'em up bit at the end distasteful given the deaths in Afghanistan this week.possibly wasnt the best-timed episode, but TG have done several similar stunts with the armed forces, and the MOD obviously threw their support and assistance behind it. Came across as more of a recruitment drive, and an entertaining way of addressing the points in the media about lack of equipment by showing off their expensive and impressive toys.
I agree its getting tired, and youre expected to suspend disbelief (live rounds I think not, shumacher-stig accidently hitting a camera etc etc) but theres a lot worse on TV (like the whole of ITV's output, all the tired generic reality/talent shows). I think Fifth Gear is on a hiding to nothing by ripping off TG's format- theyre doing exactly the same stunts (sports car chased by gunship, or driving round firing range trying to avoid being shot) with less money, originality and poorer production. They should stick to their differences, ie actually testing real-world cars but in an entertaining manner.
Munqe-chickFree Memberspongebob good point, loads of people are losing motorcycle and the D1 (minibus entitlement) when they get licences back. Its affecting the old bill as you need D1 to drive their Transits (seat over 7 passengers so counts as a minibus) and people are moving house etc and then losing the entitlement.
Munqe-chickFree Member(mr M-C posting) I love white bikes but think you can have too much white. White frame and possibly fork lowers, everything else black.
My "old" ride had a white mainframe (well more ivory) with black everything elseJust bought this on fleabay, and fancy getting the fork lowers powdercoated white possibly (and getting rid of the red H/S spacers!).
Daisy Duke I reckon you need a black seatpost to "match" the black seatstays,d and the white post makes the bike look long and top heavy IMHO.
Munqe-chickFree Memberare you 3 or 4 years in? I'm pretty sure the actual procedure is a bit perverse in that they "drop off" your record after 3 years (in other words if you get 3 points in 2 months time, you will have 3 not 6 points) but they dont physically remove them from your licence for another year.
Worth checking DVLA website, youre sending licence in anyway but youll know what to expect.
Munqe-chickFree Membermotorcycle helmet manufacturers (which use the same basic materials) usually recommend a lifespan of 5 years for a helmet in use, whether its been crashed or not, due to the damage caused by UV, so suggesting they have a shelf life too.
I dont replace my m/cycle or cycle lids that often and am always dubious of manufacturers recommendations – they have a vested interest in encouraging replacement. I would buy a new old-stock lid if it was suitably reduced in price – my 661 from CRC cost £39 and from the colour scheme I knew it was a few years old.
Munqe-chickFree MemberMasala Zone around the back of Oxford Circus/Carnaby Street does great curries cheap! Get the Grand Thali .. yum!
Munqe-chickFree MemberIf I'm doing a triathlon in open water do I need to hire boots!? I didn't realise you could "hire" them from wiggle, am I getting confused here? Or is it a dodgy use it and return!!??
Since I saw this:
http://www.wiggle.co.uk/p/Womens/11/Orca_S2_Womens_Wetsuit/5360041585/Munqe-chickFree Memberoh yeah,
http://www.400greybike.info/newforum/index.phpas its name suggests is dedicated to grey import 400's, might be worth a look.
Munqe-chickFree Memberyes lives life on the edge…of the king size bed in the 5 star hotel he is staying in. I can't believe (well I can) that they can still make and show all this pseudo-extreme stuff when it's all been outed for the charade it is.
Munqe-chickFree MemberJust pay the bleeding fine and stop being such a muppet!
If it's the letter you've received then it's the NIP where it is asking you to declare who the driver is and it's sent to the person who the vehicle is registered in, so there is nowt you can do!Munqe-chickFree MemberExactly whta I was thinking .. not riding it but drinking beer and cheering them on!
Munqe-chickFree Memberlooks like you need a quarter turn more compression damping.
Happy to help.;-)
Munqe-chickFree Memberas Jonb said, a lot of creaking whilst pedalling (which sounds like its coming from the crank area) is the seatpost clamp, or saddle clamp bolts being dry/dirty. Easy enough to eliminate- if it still creaks when youre pedalling out the saddle its not these, if it stops then it is.

all the rear bearings in my Coiler are nice branded stuff from bearing-king.

>Surely if you own an R1, a speeding ticket is simply proof that you got >caught!
oh the irony- I got the ticket driving MC's 54hp 3cyl 1100cc car at 83 on a motorway. Thankfully I have avoided detection on my R1 ;-)
Munqe-chickFree MemberTimmo, no for engine oils the higher the number the higher the viscosity. The 2 numbers refer to multigrade oils with the equivalent viscosities of the oil in summer and winter (before multigrades people used to have to change oil for the season). 5/40 is thinner than 10/40 within the appropriate temperature range.

see for example
Munqe-chickFree Membershawshank by a league. Green Mile was overly sentimental and deliberately heart-tugging, may as well have had cute furry kittens being starved to death as a sub plot.
Munqe-chickFree Memberer, gratuitous plug but I have a new unused Float R Propedal in classifieds for £70 – less than a rebuild on yours!
Munqe-chickFree Member(Mr MC posting) both me and MC have 3 points (SP50 and SP30 respectively) and neither had any impact on our insurance (so for her car insurance both named drivers have speeding tickets). And I insure an R1 where you might expect them to be sensitive to proof I speed!
If you get a course you dont have to declare it to your insurer.
Awareness courses are down to the force, and your speed. In Thames Valley (TVP) its only offered to low level offenders – ACPO guideline for prosecution is 10%+2, TVP prosecution threshold policy is 10%+2+1, and the course is only offered for a couple of mph over that.
So in a 30, in TVP you could expec to get prosecuted at 36mph, and the course might only be offered if you did 36, 37, or 38. If your speedo read 40 you were probably doing ~36-37.
Munqe-chickFree Memberditto durf's recommendation, http://www.biketrader.co.uk and http://www.motorcyclenews.com classifieds are by far the biggest, and you can set the distance from your home postcode your willing to travel (so wont get frustrated by finding a minter in Cumbria….).
As a lover of the import NC30, all the ads Ive ever seen for BAT suggest their prices are sky high, but still worth a look.
Munqe-chickFree Membergit.
Top tip- dont crash on the "10%" on Pleney, stay clipped in and break your knee. It wont enhance your holiday :-/
Munqe-chickFree MemberIcj- the more direct cable routing (ala Sram) makes a tangible difference to the quality of the shifting. Thats why I rate mine. I was and am sceptical of the "out of the way" claim as when ive ripped off a rear mech its been bounced/pushed/flexed/dragged into the spokes, not taken off by a rock directly. However I finally have 9 speed (running XT shadow with 2008 XT shifters) that work as well and reliably as my XTR 8 speed did.
Munqe-chickFree Memberthe camera man came close to gettin beheaded by the overhangs too. Stunning bit of riding with drop of death on one side.
Munqe-chickFree Memberit should be fine, like brant says if a 40mm stem will grip, why wont 40mm of a 60mm (for example) grip? Ive seen plenty of stems with just a single steerer pinch bolt too, and u say the steerer does clear the top, second bolt.
Come to think of it I rode a bike with a short steerer/stem overlap as you describe for so long I forgot about it.
If YOU dont trust it then change it as you will have a psychological/confidence problem riding the bike, but physics wise it will be fine.
Munqe-chickFree Member3" isnt a big G-clamp! Mine is more like 9-12 inches and is effectively a mobile vice. Might be worth cslling it quits and getting a shop to do it if youre getting frustrated though.
Munqe-chickFree Memberheard lots of negative things abut how they must be fragile (though not heard of people breaking em). I got one and was a bit sceptical but it is the first time I've had perfect 9 speed shifting in 4 years. The long cage seems bonkers long, which might undermine the supposed advantage of having it tucked out the way, but from a pure performance aspect I am impressed (comparing shadow XT with standard XT so like for like).
Munqe-chickFree Memberhitting stuff with hammers never worked for me when I did bearings. You need something like a big G-clamp to PUSH it out.

>Who'd have thought, MBR in route wrong way round shockeryeah, isnt that what theyre most famous for?!
Munqe-chickFree Memberif youre literally a week out I'm surprised they wont sort you out something out of goodwill, even if it was, say, do the forks at cost for you.
I agree specials are to generate new business but companies with good customer service surely benefit from repeat custom, and having evangelical customers who plug their product to anyone who will listen (such as On Ones on STW!).
Munqe-chickFree Membersteveh, Ive no doubt youre right but as you and others have said they dont know their own rules, and they will usually win the argument. Best case you get charged excess and have to claim it back, worst case they refuse to fly your bag, or even you if you get aggressive. Appreciate you "championing" your cause though, we'll be saving this thread and the contact names and numbers.
In my experience they are worse at the geneva end-where its often generic booking-in agency staff not sleazyjet employees (as Del says). I know a few cases where people have got to geneva with no problems then been charged XS flying back.
Cynic-Al tell us more about getting refunded so quickly.
Munqe-chickFree Memberone of the Oxford shops (cycle king i think) had a carboned proflex, think it was an 857, in the window for years marked up with the full RRP and then a "sale" sticker. They forgot to put the "10 year old bike" sign on it though…
Munqe-chickFree Member(Mr MC posting) are you torquing them up in the right order? For any application where multiple bolts hold components flat youre supposed to work opposites, so if you numbered the bolts clockwise you'd tighten 1, then 3, then 2 then 4.
First came across this re-fitting a cylinder head to an engine but it holds for all such situations.
Personally never heard of ANY stem plate breaking.
Munqe-chickFree Memberi thought the OP was asking whether you put extra grease around the cartridge bearing, not in it.
I periodically re-grease the cartridge bearings in my coiler rear and apply the same theory as other posters to the headset, ie. if its full of grease theres no room for water. I also put extra grease around the headset cartridge bearings on the same theory (no room for water) and also to prevent the external faces corroding as tandemjeremy says. I wipe off any excess that gets pushed out which could attract/hold grit.
Munqe-chickFree MemberJust watched "Deja Vu" with Denzil Washington..took me a while to get into but good film.
Munqe-chickFree MemberLuckily Mr MC only lasted 6 months and hasn't worked in bean cans in 7 years .. I'm saved :-)
Munqe-chickFree MemberOh no here goes Mr MC with his interesting stories of cans!!!! ;-)
Munqe-chickFree Member(Mr MC posting) presidents of the USA, brilliant.
Flies like to fly, cause they dont like to stay
Theyre buzzin in the ears of a chicken all day
Chicken understand and they pick out the code
Send a sub-sonic signal through the snot in the middle
Of an elephants long wet cold grey nose
But thats totally Feather-pluckin Insane!Yes, its to give the cans strength. I worked for Crown Cork and Seal (worlds biggest maker of cans) as a metallurgist, I could bore myself to death with can-related factoids…
