    oh ffs

seriously? why not put a drivethru in as well

should have left it the way it is, charged everyone visiting £1 and spent it on trails and a cable car at innners. seems odd that they seem to be forgetting why everyone is there in the first place, and that it needs to grow rather than look nice to draw more people in….

oh and stop clear felling areas around the trails, the tourism must be worth more than the trees, they ruined most of ae that way

having a bad day – rant over

owned a nomad (1st gen), demo’d a nomad 2 for 2 days and have demo’d a 160 for 3 days. i too am torn between frames to replace the ageing nomad – i would comment

    nomad –

    supple vpp feel

unpredictable vpp feel (never absolutely know what it is going to feel like) blows through mid travel a bit (better that the old one)

    quiet

bearings (must be better than the old one which costs a fortune in money and missed weekends to replace the bearings) Apparently the new ones need to be regularly greased or the bearings die quite quickly.

QR – the QR constantly releases itself on my nomad 1 (which may be my fault for not tightening it enough but after 5 years the metal is getting a bit deformed down there).

    alpine 160

suspension – a bit ‘chattery’ compared with the buttery nomad, but will come down to set up and may be better with a ccdb (although i am a bit convinced the nomad 1 is super supple because of the mid stroke softness, which is great for the rough stuff but rubbish for getting any support of the face of jumps, kickers etc) So i would say the 160 is 90% as good as the nomad, with 10% of some aspects better.

noise – a bit noisy (who cares)

    maxle – love it

bearings – its just not going to be an issue

price – frame with ccdb for price of nomad….

personally i am still to decide, but am also interested in a tough spec 5 – because of the lightness (both the nomad and 160 are a fair old slog to get to the good bits) or a blood, which i have demoed for a couple of days and absolutely loved (like a sparky short travel slack and lairy nomad) but the lack of all round use puts me off slightly.

longer travel APP is pretty likely – as the bullit is a little old and weirdly unpopular

would love to see a carbon 4x but apparently they didnt sell many the first time round. i think its popularity is a weird british thing – like hardcore hardtails

cool, now the forums back up i can read the responses – glad there is no ‘one cable suits all’ solution – the missus will have to lump it

seriously, i just realised that i could have gone and learnt some new skills in the time it took me to read that – which would be more effective than any pivot based BS.

i have a vpp and have had SP and will be going single pivot next time for 5 reasons

    1. maintenance
    2. i would say vpp is better at different things than SP, but sp has more consistent feel, and mid stroke support.
    3. maintenance (run vpp for 5 years and you will know)
    4. I am not convinced the axel path makes anywhere near as much difference as a good well set up shock – ie nomad with rp23 probably not as good as alpine 160 ccdb
    5. maintenance – seriously £100 every 12months on bearing replacement

snow was seriously back today – nice and grippy though

pretty damn cold as well -3 all day and windy, one of the burn crossings was frozen over and any moisture from the burn splash froze instantly on my frame. good fun though

er – it looks well icey – is there plenty of grip – did you do the full route? is the car park open?

    thinking about it for tomorrow

we had something similar – which seems ok as you get time off. then they ask (tell) you to work full time for no return of salary levels or they threaten redundancies. so here i am working full time for 20% less.
