Running the same bmx tubes on 717’s with eight different tyre changes over the last 14 months – NO TAPE.

Why the faff? Schwalbe bmx tubes, JRA milk, fairy liquid, track pump (or sometimes CO2 with certain tyres)8 tyre changes on the same bmx tube and still no worries. Rim tape sounds like way too much hassle.

Was eaten alive by midgies on Skye last week- huge red welts which looked bad but no real discomfort. Were only baby ones don’t fancy chances in another week or two.

Had 32 Talas on mine at a time 100mm-140mm – 120mm seemed to work well but the fork went a bit noodly if you wanted to crash through rock gardens. 36 Talas was a bit too much fork. Air Pikes seem to be the best all round fork for my sort of riding

Currently using 4 sets of sintered that were bedded in correctly – lasting well so far in a lot of wet riding, plenty of power but bit of a squeler in the wet (07 and 08 XT)

Halfords LHM is £10.95 for a 1lt bottle -unless you have a stable the size of a Sheik go to a decent LBS and get a small bottle for much less

Galicia is an absolutley beautiful part of the world, completely unlike the typical costa’s – if you want to stay somewhere very special there is a pension right beside the cathedral in Santiago which is veery reasonable

Did the PGCE for a year and then taught for 4 months after it – that was 12 years ago. By far the worst 18 months of my life. If you are the type that likes to pull the shutters down come 5pm and have a life outside of your job DONOT even think about teaching.

Lidl silicon spray – 99p per can

Montane Featherlite – cracking lightweight smock for the money – unless it is really chucking it down it will keep you dry, packs down to “a small eating apple” and breaths fine. Used to have Gore Paclite and not worth the money imho.

Put the chain on, get an old towel (the terry towel sort) give a good 20 rotations with you grabbing the chain as it rotates to try and remove as much shipping grease as you can- go out and ride, if it’s wet clean the bike as you normally do and start oiling the chain if you think it need it – shipping lube = sh*t magnet

In recent years they have definetly been overpriced and underspecced and the fact that CRC bought a couple of containers from the Swiss distributor and then sold them at much larger discounts than anyone else pretty much put Paligap back a bit with their potential sales.

Having had a ti456 which I replaced with a PA (due to imminent redundancy) Yes the inbred builds into a superb bike and everything you have probably read about it is true. However having bought a PA second hand at 90 quid I can definelty say the 456 is not ten times better than it. I have to say the PA is as capable in most situations and the only time I really miss it is on long technical climbs where the weight saving of about 2.5lbs does help- though I keep telling myself that fitness will soon overcome this. Unless you have money burning a huge hole the PA really is a cracking frame.

Had a 03 SE estate from new, third Primera in sucession and from what the Nissan service manager told me I got a decent one – “only” my door lock failed whilst going round a roundabout with my 7 year old in the back, door mirror motor failed three times, 35mpg, handled like a galleon. LAGUNA IN DISGUISE.

It is the predictable answer but look at an Octavia instead

Can vouch for Malcolm as a top guy – bought a DB off fleabay nearly two years ago for £180 without hardware for the bike I needed to put it on. Sent it off to him after agreeing what I needed in two emails, within 10 days I had it back with hardware, service, correct spring and shipping. All for $40 which at the time was about 22 quid. BEST customer service ever

Had a set of 36talas on a ti456 – super slack and brilliant at crashing through things but unless you are riding stuff that points down bigstyle a set of pikes will make better sense 95% of the time.
