I’ll give it a point for being a pre unit! Nice shiny alloy too.

Could have been a Norbsa! I wasn’t going to risk much considering I was already sticking my neck out saying it was a twin!

err what engine unit is it in the first pic then?
That amal carb looks sufficiently offset to me to suggest there’s one on the other side…not that all twins have 2 carbs…

<5 mins of carfully studying picture>
nope. definitely looks like a twin to me. Triumph or BSA.

Mais le premier est un twin!

    J’aime le XT.

Je voudrais un Velocete Venom Thruxton Clubmans or a Goldstar (DBD34) or a manx. Yep a manx norton would be no.1 choice. Very practical…..

I could post a picture of my MZ, as that’s a mono (deux temps), but I don’t have any digital ones of it.

Please Mrs Mugsy buy me a nice bike……

On the mountaineering front, not sure exactly what you’re after, but the last couple of years have seen great styrofoam like neve on popular snow routes such as the Eperon Migot on the Aiguille du Chardonnet and the routes on the tacul triangle etc in Mt. Blanc Massif Sept and Oct.

Kid: Ok. Mais Il y a combien de vitesses? Le velo de mon papa a 30000 vitesses. Et donc il est plus vite que vous.

Cyclist: Oui, tu as raison Gaston. Mais tu est un coin.

Well, sounds like you’re in sheffield, so it simply has to be a Record.
I got a big record one for about £20 from B&Q on Queens Road.

Planet X Kaffenback is the geared version of the On One Pompino and very happy I am with it too. Depite the lack of a cable stop on the rear for cantis/ V’s.

Used it for winter club runs, commuting and now it’s starting life as the tractor unit for Little Mugsys touring set up!

    Or.. a roadrat?

they do sound like transit bolts…..

what’s the worst that can happen?………………………………………………………………………………

    mugsys_m8

    We had the same problem.
    We cured it.
It was a bit of a big fix though…
Moving from a Sheffield 2 up 2 down with suspended timber floors to an old farmhouse near Lyon, France with a garage with concrete floor and washing machine plumbing. It works a treat now! Silky smooth

Seriously, check all transit bolts are out, work through the instructions step by step, get someone else to have a look with fresh eyes. Then if still doing it I always thought about it eliminating the problem i.e machine or location. Try it somewhere else on a concrete floor. If it still happens it’s more than likely the machine.

If proved to be the location then try big rubber feet, stiffening up the floor frame locally etc etc.

Michelin Pro3for commuting? yeah that’s a good value option. Will last nice and long….

Having said that I’ve put some on my road bike and they are streets ahead of various high performance contis I’ve tried in the past

I thought sintered had sinters of metal in them, to keep the heat in the pad and therefore designed for colder climes such as uk.

In the heat the sintered will get hotter no? vis a vis the organic ones for the alps?

DesF: Des are you the one who sold me your singlespped inbred? You replaced it with a Spot I think. Anyway It’s still going great. It lives in England. I live in France now, but used 1 week/ month when I’m over there. I love it.

I know my USE carbon seatpost advises placing the slot in the clamp 180deg from the slot in the frame. From an engineering viewpoit it would seem to spread the load better. It doesn’t distinguish frame material either.

Isn’t Julian A’s bridge phoot’s of the bridge in Prior Park, Bath?

I’m almost certain the first one is, and the 2nd one is a bit more abstract, but that looks like Bath down below.

The actual brake mounts should be the same. So the brake calipers will be fine. However I think the ‘pull ratios’ are different, so that they might not work well with a lever designed for cantis. Not sure what you are planning lever wise.

Prob not directyl relevant, but to give you an idea of pull ratio problems: On road/ cross bikes V brakes need a travel adjuster etc if a road STI lever is being used because of the difference in pull ratios, whilst cantis are designed t work with the pull ratio of the STI lever…

I’m sure someone will be along to say I’ve got it right, or to say I’ve got it wrong…

Sudocream, so I’ve been told by a cycling pharmacist (of the official kind: I mean a qualified pharmacist who cycles…) isn’t ideal as it’s paraffin wax based and does not let the skin breathe.

    Juan,

You could always come and visit us and help us to get to know our local trails better. Mind you if you came, you’d have to come on the SRX (as I’m a fellow proper bike, classics, mono etc fan), and then how would you bring your mountain bike?!

Joking of course, It could be good to meet you.

The French are 10 times surlier in l’arve vallee (i.e Chamonix and outlying posts) than generally the rest of France. It’s a known (by the french too) fact.

I love the Mont Blanc Massif, and the Aiguilles Rouges (i.e. the other side) for the climbing and ski touring etc. Not biked there though. But absolutely hate the circus of the valley. Typically the residents are so far up their own backsides it’s laughable. And that is the expats and the natives. I accept that that is a mass generalisation though

Oh no. You’ve got me worried about tyres now though. Will I need to beef up the suspension on the Metro to cope with the speed bumps?

Sorry. The stress and excitement is getting to me. I’ve corrected my spelling before someone eats me before I even get in the car…

Hiya everyone, as above really. I’m a bit worried about it, it’s all so foreign to me over that way. Will I get eaten alive? will my car survive? what do I have to have to avoid random searches by the Trolley Staff? What paperwork do I need? Will it work ok, when, if, anything goes wrong I just plead ignorance and say ” Hello I’m from London doncha know”

…Thanks in advance. It really is a big step for me.

re the speeding fine ‘a little bit over the limit’ and tolerances etc.
I got coaught a month ago here in France on a 70kph section of motorway through St. Etienne. I was caught doing 76kph, and the ticket said upto 75kph was allowed as a margin of error, so effectively I got done for 1kph over what they allow.

Effectively over what they allow is over.

if HTII BB PINCH BOLTS rather than BB CUPS then I think you’ll find it’s 5nm not 50nm….

D’oh. of course. The headtube stays at the same angle to the top tube, but the whole thing rotates around the rear axle. Cheers

How will a longer fork slacken the head angle?
or is there is a diff between head angle and headtube angle?

Diff between the two option James questions, is with the spacers, won’t it raise the handlebars vertically, therefore height diff between saddle and bars is changed without raising the front of the frame…err is this where head angles rather than head tube angles come in to play? I’m interested, i’m starting to think about frame geomteries these days.

Norway, as suggested higher up is not a bad idea. Plus your near the Arctic, so presents an extra snow like twist.

If you’re not wanting to ski…then I’d try skiing. Bear with me. I mean cross country ski ing. Avoids all the faff and the Timothy and Imelda’s and the resorts. For this, Norway is great, but I’ll stick my 2p in and suggest the Jura. Immediatley north of Geneva along the border of France and Switzerland. Easy access. It would even be worhtwhile for a long weekend. Have a play on the planks. Hire kit is dead cheap and dead easy to arrange.Signposted prepared trails, Then you can go sledging, snow shoeing, sittng in nice local not ski set cafe’s, visitng Comte (the local cheese) factories etc etc.

For accommadtion there are loads of great value gites which offer half board and are very family orientted dishing u plocal food etc. None of this generic pizza in a concrete jungle on top of a mountain rubbish.

Contact me if you want further details. We live about an hor away from the Jura.

I’m getting a bling new cutom carbon frame, and want it pretty flash, but the only thing I can’t justify is the money they want for ‘carbon’ bottle cages, or at least a bottle cage that looks good. It seems there’s a big gap between a bog standard £5-10 and then a £30+ flash one!

    Let’s stage a strike. It’s shocking.

That’s the thing though. A commission free deal is meaningless if the exchange is rubbish and vice versa.

I get paid in £ but live in euroland. Usually I just reserve online with travelex and pick it up at the airport, taking a wadge home to the family like in the old days. I should look into Nationwide, been meaning too ever since Oct when we left UK. I wonder if I could set one up without having a UK address though. Barclays were happy to let me change my address to France. But I’m not sure if any UK bank would let me open an account when I don’t live here.
