    1 egg
2 desert spoons of froamge blanc or yogurt
3 desert spoons of son d’avoine
stir up in a flat soup type bowl

Angle adjustment of front mech can help in this instance.

Assuming you know about the trim function for both rings. Read the shimano instructions and start over from scratch.

Barcelonette. Further south. Hotter. More Provençale. Great road cols and probably great mtb too I think.

Got a Chariot Cougar single off here 4 years ago for £200. Still in use. Done 3 touring camping holidays and numerous jaunts. Will be sold for the same when we’re done with it in no more than a year.

A 2nd hand Chariot, Croozer etc will be much better in use and investmnet rather than a new cheapy.

Just been trying to find the Big Apple Tara for my new Ogre. It seems they are as rare as Hen’s Teeth. Thought I found one at Bike24, but they’re stock levels weren’t clear.

Oh well I’ll make do with the normal Tara, as realistically I’ll only be using the front rack with 40mm tyres on I guess.

I’ve put an entry in. First timer yikes!

Waited up late on Sat night ..and then realised I would have to wait up an extra hour as forgot the hour time diff between you lot and us lot.

Spent the time getting uber psyched by watching 3 peaks footage!

Under no illusions that an early entry will make no difference whether I get a place or not. But I have done all I can. Here’s hoping.

Looking really forward to getting my Surly Ogre built up for dual duties of MTB and family camping touring. Waiting for frame delivery and numerous packages!

Looks good Iain. When you bringing it to the alps? It will be 100 % fine as an only mtb. My mtb is à rigid singlespeed inbred and I live near the alps and I am still alive…just ordered à surly ogre to replace it though as it doubles up for touring with the kids too.

I go there for work now and again and have the same issues. You are looking at an hour absolutely min each way and prob about 40 euros worth off the top of my head. Even for a 2hour cab ride the price is nrver restrictive, more a question of time. I have stayed in the Green Park hôtel on the asian side which was very popular but quirky. On the Europe side Have stayedin the Hilton Park in Macka which is nothing Fancy and stuffily hot , the rooftop restaurant is very good though with great views. The Polat Renaissance near the hôtel is also ok but not worth it. Best option I found near the airport is actually the Novotel.

We’ve got heating that has UFH in the main open plan part of the house and rads in bedrooms etc. It has lots of motor assisted ‘servos’?, and now a new control box link to an outside sensor. I really don’t understand it and one of my planned projects is to sit down and understand what box, valve, bit of pipe does what. Anyone want to help?

It’s good…but in my opinion there’s better places for purely alpine road. The problem with Morzine is it’s in the northern alps which generally gets worse (wetter) weather than further south.

Bourg d’Oisans would be a more traditional choice for many from many countries. You have the Croix de Fer, Ornon, Alpe d’Huez, Lauteret, Les Deux Alpes, Col des Sarennes, La Berade, Galibier, Lauteret, Glandon etc….

Best road biking trip I’ve had to date though has been based from near Barcolentte S. of Briancon. Bonette Restfond, col d’Allos, and lots of others whose name currently slips my mind. Alpes Provencale scenery. Another option would be the S coast…but it’s starting to be holiday season shortly.

Loads of options, I would never think of going to Morzine specifically for road biking. But depends on thiks such as airport destinations etc.

I live near Grenoble and to date this spring the weather has been awful by normal standards. I encountered white fluffy stuff at 660m 3km from my house on Saturday…

Self propelled normal mixer will be fine normally for such size. Get à mulching one so you don’t have to stop to empty the bag and get one with à wide blade and big engine. Think 6hp about 190cc and 53cm blade. Chasis in aluminium or plastic . We have this but in steel and have about twice as much. Am After à tractor though.

and I wish they would do a slot or sliding drop out inbred in small with v brake bosses for my wife for use a famiy tourer.

I bought a 2nd hand sliding droppout 6? years ago 2nd hand off here as a ride to train station hack. It’s now my main mountain bike I love it that much. It also makes a great tourer, esp when touring with the chariot trailer for pulling Pia and all our camping kit.

Mrs Mugsy REALLY wants one in 16″ ish that will allow her to run gears and singlespeed (or at a push gears only) and v brakes. If it had more mounting points and a touring fork then it would be perfect. The road rat doesn’t really cut it for heavily laden touring and pulling a 5year old with a follow me…. flexy to say the least!

I really like on one. They’re cheap and cheerful. I’ve also had a kaffenback and a team superlight frame, and now also have an Uncle John.

I got a cycle fit done by cyclefit 6 years ago (by the same bloke that fitted Cancellera this year none the less!) after lots of knee problems when I was faced with the chance of needing an operation.

They deduced that simply put I needed a 60cm frame height wise but a 56cm frame reachwise.

So I really echo the voices saying get a proper good fit done, get your ‘numbers’ for the measurements I list above and then find* a frame to fit.

    * this is the difficult part and I opted for custom…

Don’t approach it from “I want a tall headtube”. Work out what height drop you want between the saddle and the bars and then find a frame* that will allow you to replicate this position.

    Saddle height
position of saddle tip relative to bottom bracket axis
    reach from tip of saddle
height difference between saddle and bars

Seal on the freewheeel not sitting properly can apparently do this according to the Hope rebuild video. I need to have a look at mine since I have the same draggy feeling, it’s very slight though and freewheels fine when riding.

719 is probably lighter and more expensive?
Is the way with the 3 and 7 series XC rims.

I understand your wishes! I need to build myself up some touring wheels in 26″ and whilst they will be for my inbred which gets used as tourer and mountain bike and has hope mono minis usually, I’d like a bit of flexibility. Plus if something happens to my hopes mid tour I can easily find some v brakes somewhere and stick them on.

    Have fun Sue, sounds great.

We’re planning to return to Denmark for 3 weeks this summer with the two kids. Planning on going north. Last year we did the Islands.

Can’t wait to be wild* camping on a beach somewhere.

It’s been bobbins here near Greonble and beyond too. Our road clubs annual training camp in mid march down near St. Raphael was a wash out for the second half. It’s usually wall to wall sunshine. Even when we have a few days proper weather for Spring here, it rains in the next few days. Or it’s grey and just depressing, like today. Farmers are all getting depressed.

I bought an effetto supposedly bling one from wiggle. The bits aren’t well machined, the cut outs in the box used for other sets makes it look like something is missing, the magnet in the hole to hold the bits has come unstuck. Found out last night the 3mm allen head bit does not even fit 3mm allen heads………

Saturday: the kids were ‘a bit of a handful’ Went for a very samll walk with the kids on their bikes. Then Mrs Mugsy took them swimming whilst I gave my roadbike a long overdue fettle including new bars and cables.

Sunday: Rescued Mrs Mugsy as she got knocked off her road bike in the first 20km of what was to be a 3hr ride. Headed up into the Vercors with the family and tried to compete in the Department Championships UFOLEP road race. Was never going to be a contender but would be happy to finish. Course was HARD with a strong headwind on a 3km stretch then a STEEP narrow 500m odd climb Settled down was in a good group of 4 others behind the main peloton and then 4 laps in of a 7 lap race my saddle clamp on the seatpost slipped and I couldn’t ride anymore.

Luckily could have been a worse day: Mrs Mugsy is not hurt, bike is a bit of a mess though and she needs to get training, but could be without a road bike for a while due to insurances etc.

Alps is a big place. I live in them and ride nothing but a rigid singlespeed. It’s not ‘the alps’ that defines, it’s the locations, the trails you want to ride and how you want to ride them.

I’m a mincer and I took my rigid singlespeed to Meribel meet up with some riding friends who were over from the UK. I was told not to bring my bike, you won’t be able to ride it. Hire one. Needless to say I ignored their advice, had a hoot and suprised everyone.

    Whatever you do have fun!

Guys get a grip and if you can’t say anything useful don’t say it…

Sounds to me like there’s a need for ‘fun’ and a need for transport. Motorbikes can do both, but sometimes you need to focus on one aspect or the other….

A motorbike can be more useful than a car for commuting, sometimes a car is best. Depends on lots of aspects. Have you considered a minimising risk approach? Keep on riding but only for commuting, i.e for the times when you can’t use your partners car, therefore reducing your exposure but still riding. Or public transport/ push bike combination for commuting and keep the bike for the occasional fun blast.

It might make sense financially to keep the bike rather than sell and get a tin box. It might not be an important aspect, it might not make much difference. It might be an idea to get a more sensible bike? Lots of things only you know.

Having been brought up with a father who spent the majority of his time commuting by motorbike and being an ‘enthusaist’ who loves riding to races and cleaning and working on the machines, but not one who deliberately hung out with bikers or always went out riding at weekends for fun; I personally struggle to grasp the concept of people who view motorbikes as toys (it’s not a criticism) and not as a transport option. Sure I like Sunday afternoon blasts, and going to the races (when I have a bike) but for me motorcylcing is a mode of transport, and not purely something to do for fun. I can think of more people I know who have hurt themselves badly by riding for ‘fun’ on public roads rather than using their bikes as a means of transport.

Plus…in these times there’s the unnecessary burning of fuel issue. But I’ve no strong feelings on that.

So, not much useful to say I guess, just the dribbling drivelling of someone who loves bikes, even MZ’s!

Can reccomend the follow me tandem. It weighs a tonne, it’s relatively expensive it has a few manufacturing inaccuracies but it’s way more sturdier than a trail gator.

Having said that we use ours mainly for family touring i.e. 3 weeks in Denmark camping last year and planning the same this year
