(she even has a singlespeed cross bike – v.niche)

oh, I think I've found her blog …

    Hi bikey babes!

We were out riding with four other couples. Most of them did singlespeed for a little while.

'You're not still a singlespeeder are you?' in a disbelieving tone, and when I replied sheepishly, 'Well, yes, of course' the look of shock on their faces! It kind of made me laugh a little, 1 at me feeling sheepish in my answer, and 2 why would I singlespeed any other way?

I've recently completed my singlespeed training, and I'm eager to help other new singlespeedies out. And yet, a friend asking me if I'm still singlespeeding made me feel sheepish, and kind of like I'm being a bit weird to still be singlespeeding? I know it's thoroughly against the norm to still be singlespeeding at this age, and even more so that my bikey has never ever had a derailleur. It shouldn't be this way though.

My hubby and I were raised soley on singlespeed, and I wouldn't have it any other way for my bikey. Just think of all the money we've saved!

I can't believe anybody still regularly writes a blog. It must take a certain kind of person to believe the world has such an interest in one's inner-most thoughts to go and splatter them across the internet. And how your friends came to discover the blog is a little beyond me unless the said blog was well publicised in your circle of friends. But then again I really can't grasp the need to blog in the first place.

Some things are better off not said. Other things are better off not published.

striking to save your job is like shagging to keep your virginity.

the UK employment market has progressed far enough and is heavily legislated without the need for Luddite unions whose own management are first to call a strike but last to lose their jobs.

bogus personal injury claims are on the up.
insurance companies are clamping down and scrutinizing them.
i believe whiplash to be one of those injuries very hard to prove – hence it is favored by the scammers.

yoohoo999 – just read your LIBEL LIABILITY link and I don't see how this can be relevant to the thread. You're quoting Godfrey vs Demon Internet – a case where an individual felt he had been defamed on forum newsgroup hosted by Demon. This individual complained numerous times and was unsuccessful in getting the article removed. Here lies his case.
Demon had no procedure and were uncooperative in removing the said article.

In the defence of "Innocent dissemination" – ie if a formal complaint is made and the defendant then removes the article. There is no case to answer for.

Therefore, you have to find the current owner of the bicycle. Prove he purchased it in good faith and then lodge a formal complaint against the forum host. This is if you are to pursue the Godfrey vs Demon case law.

I wish you success in identifying the individual. In fact, even if the internet biking world is large enough and the picture clear enough to find him (which I doubt) – he can only request for the thread to be removed. And we've seen that many times on here. End of.

reading this all a bit late but afaik a claim of compensation has to be substantiated and quantified by the claimant. and seeing as the person pictured is
    1) unnamed
    2) not easily identified.
side shot obscured by window shop frontage.
    3) and previously acknowledged as possibly "having bought it in good faith".
    4) and posted onto an MTB forum as opposed to a national newspaper.
Can you substantiate any damages from the readership of this forum?

BOTTOM LINE – I DOUBT VERY MUCH A SUBSTANTIATED CLAIM FOR DAMAGES COULD BE MADE.

If this site's users can stump up cash to fund some poor kid's rent (aka Mikey's rent thread) it can't be anymore difficult to do the same and bring a county court judgement against this guy. I'm really surprised nobody has done it yet.

Yes, on the old forum about 6 months ago.
And then I got no response from your middleburn ad.
And then I saw this thread which I thought ironic.
And fwiw your ad for your slx brakes it looks clear the first poster wants
the brakes – you just don’t give him a chance.

Like other people have said it’s upto you who you sell to but a little bit of patience wouldn’t hurt otherwise it becomes a lucky dip.

i trust people on here and so far have never been let down.

A certain poster on here ‘bought’ some gear off me and then never sent the money or bothered to say they no longer wanted the items. I also replied to one of their ads hoping to buy but never even got a reply. Won’t buy or sell to that person again – but my fault because i trust people on here.

A time ago people used to hunt, trap and snare their animals in the name of food. These days we use modern intensive farming techniques to breed, feed, kill and process animals with maximum efficiency. Most people won’t see this or recognize this. We call this civilized and humane. In reality how far has humanity and civilization evolved – not far at all.

btw: i’ve seen lobsters done by boiling water, a chopstick straight down the head or the clever placement of a cleaver.

    they all tasted nice.

    a free first consultation.

As a word of warning and from experience the initial consultation is only “free” – if you don’t engage them to do the work. Once you instruct them – the consultation is charged.

You might want to clarify this at the consultation.

    another for viewranger.
i bought the national parks which is great value.
you can buy separate “tiles” (areas) from viewranger. Something like £20 buys a fair number of little areas – you select these through the pc app.

i use a seperate GPS via bluetooth on a nokia 5500 phone and find battery life to be OK for a few hours. you might look into spare batteries if you do longer rides.

support from Augmentra the viewranger people is excellent.

unfortunately, from my own dealings with solicitors they won’t be cheap. if they can charge you for it – they will. we dealt with a big firm and from that experience would probably look into a smaller firm where we might not be treated like their walking bank account.

fwiw the original post is about private junior or primary schooling and you are all preaching about the virtues of tough under achieving comprehensive schools. it’s not the same thing. we are thinking along the lines of private for the early years and state for the latter years (probably due to the increase cost) but at least they will have a good start in schooling.

additionally, from my own experience, at state school i did under achieve because of disruptive influences. i didn’t have to waste a year doing resits before going onto sixth-form college and then university (and in those days it was harder to get into a *real* university – makes me a snob!) – but some of my friends did. And some never made it there at all.

racism, bullying, gbh, abh, truancy, teenage pregnancies, smoking, drugs etc were all present at my comprehensive and i’m sure too are present in ALL other state comprehensives to a lesser or greater degree. so to bang on about how great it was to be a product of this kind of education is not a unique feat. if i had a choice, i wouldn’t like to have seen or experienced any of it.

it simply didn’t make me a better person. and anybody who says it does is wrong. and anybody who thinks it good for bringing up rounded children has a very warped take on life.

also works well on black shot peened alloy components.
doesn’t work on black cranks tho.
