Has anyone tried Specialized’s SWAT bibs? I think they’re too expensive, but I like the idea and would love to give riding without a pack a go (at least on shorter rides).
Happy with my Links mid tops which I’ve owned for about 8 months now. They’re very comfy and they do dry reasonably quickly. I alternate between flat and clipless shoes and I like both on the stiffer side.
I have the Feedback Pro Elite. Before I had the X-Tools/Revolution Tune up stand (which comes rebranded under many different names). The Pro Elite is expensive, but solid piece of kit. Very stable and the clamp mechanism is a joy to use.
Crashtestmonkey: the Touring is based on the Edge 800, but official specs list the Touring Plus (£249) as having a barometric altimeter, while the regular Touring (£199) doesn’t. You can always use the altititude correction feature on Garmin Connect if your unit doesn’t have a barometric altimeter.
Really tempted to get one of those as I’ve missed out on the Garmin 30% off code from a few days ago. I wanted to get an Edge Touring since I have no use for the HRM strap and cadence sensor. Just want a unit that I could use to follow a plotted route with good battery life. I could still pick up the Touring model for about the same money, but it doesn’t have a barometric altimeter. Maybe I could get this one and eBay the HR strap and cadence sensor. Hmm.
Northwind: how long have your HT AE01s lasted before they developed play? And was it excessive play or just the DU bushings wearing out and it’s not something you feel while riding.
I was going to order a pair of Shimano Saints but now considering those HT AE01 clones.
trail_rat: I should have added that I have used mine successfully on SRAM Powerlink, KMC 10 speed Missing Link, and Whipperman Connex links. I’ve never tried it on a SRAM powerlock.
Seen a few mentions of powerlink pliers. I know it’s the right tool for the job and all, but small needle nose pliers work perfectly well on those links. I keep a small and light one in my pack all the time.
Another branch-in-the-spokes ride, happened about a mile and a half in. £24 for proprietary spokes, £50 for a new XT rear mech, £30 for mech hanger (£30 for a little piece of metal?! This is ridiculous!) and about £40 in labour.
Northwind, this looks great. I was just trying to figure out how to do something similar with a vented helmet GoPro mount. Thanks for sharing your mod.
I have also looked the Phantom, but liking the added durability of the reinforced elbows on the Fusion Cross. I have decided to go with the Fusion. Cheers all.
Hmm, I might try this. No need to wait for the Sugru magnet kit to become available. N52 neodymium magnets from ebay, one SRAM quickview mount, and a pack of Sugru.
Received the light but yet to take it out on the trails. Light itself isn’t too bad for what I paid. Doesn’t seem too waterproof, though. Mount is made out of very brittle, cheap plastic.
Has anyone tried using Sugru to bodge a SRAM quickview mount for a Defy? Any reason why I shouldn’t just bond the adapter to the back of of the battery cover using superglue or Sugru?
No idea about the Garmin maps, but how about a homemade gps for mapping and tracking (see link below) that does the same thing at a fraction of the cost? Just done this and it works a treat.
When I rode the bike last weekend the front was very rough. Should be a straightforward job as the exploded diagram shows that the axle caps and dust covers just pop off easily without special tools. I think I might just service the rear as well since I bought the wheels second hand and the rear bearings might be on their way out soon, too. That said, if the rear has the DT Star Ratchet I think I remember reading somewhere this needs a special tool to remove/refit. I’ll have to take a closer look at all of this tonight.
