BBC had a story about this earlier, BBC bloke was saying that customers, potential or actual, have too much power and have threatened hotels with bad reviews to get discounts so perhaps there needs to be some way of dealing with this. Not that the dirty stinking hovel that is The Broadway Hotel, Blackpool are going about it the right way.

I’ll sort my own plan out.

    You mean a SIPP?

not exactly what you want for your long-term savings…

    Seriously? Where’s your money?

Absolutely- the message is “don’t drink at all and drive”, it’s not “You can now only drink 5/8ths as much as you used to be able to”. It’s a much simpler message and I think probably going to be an effective one, people see wriggle room in the current rules.

But it can never be so clear cut – how long a gap is suitable? A lunchtime beer then drive home in the evening? Over night? 24 hrs?

I’d quite like the 7% interest those rascals are getting

Not unreasonable if investing in unit trusts or similar

You mean they get a lot of tax relief which everyone subsidises and afaik the rich do very well out of these subsidies

Well the very rich don’t as there’s a pot limit now – £1.25m? That’s more than I’ll save but not sure those people are particularly rich

The majority of council tennants aren’t monsters either!

Possibly not but I still want to choose where I live.

    asked your neighbours that lately?

    They’re all lovely.

My point was maybe when you’re in need of council housing you don’t get too much choice.

    A council house is irrelevant.

Are there enough of those for everyone who wants one? And how are the neighbours?

Not really, they’d just have to have enough children to replenish the numbers sustainably.

Is there no max population we have room for?

Prior to that I’d been investing in property

Ooh are you one of those ‘evil’ BTLers?

    mudshark

Yeah but that would be the rational thing to do…..can’t have that can we?

Like any ponzi scheme it’ll only work for so long, then we’re in even more trouble. At the moment immigration works nicely as they mostly nice young types busy working. Then they get old and start costing more. Plus there’s there ever present housing issue to sort out.

I have twice the average pot at 35, which can only be a good thing.

Yeah – got a link? Wondering what’s average – and even what’s recommended.

For many though it would be better to wait until got a deposit and/or paying higher rate tax.

Is there an App for working out chance of being over the limit? Enter each drink and time drunk – could work…?!

your employer has to enrol you on one and take 1% to pay into it

That won’t be worth much though.

Interactive Investor SIPP for me, happy enough with it as very cost efficient.

I know a few folk who have stopped working, have no private pension, and manage quite well

State pensions are rather generous at the moment – it’ll get worse.

Yay, we’re the drink drive capital of Europe.

Best at handling cars after a few beers?

We could all buy scrappers, fit big spikes to the wheels, dress like australians, get bladdered then let rip at each other.

Sounds like some of those funny places up north you hear about.

Turn it back to you: would you continue to do so with a 50mg/100ml limit?

I’d what I do about everything in life – ask on here and do what was recommended….

I figure I’ll have one pint early evening and then drive later and be OK, not sure if that would put me over the limit if it changed to 50mg/100ml.

Is this the modern equivalent of being ex directory? Some people in the olden days seemed to think of it as a bit special to not be in the phone book.

I’ve got block paved but have problems with weeds in between the blocks – just use weed killer?

My experience with dog insurance was that we would have been much better off sticking the equivalent money into a savings account.

All insurance is like that but what happens if your dog gets ill within a few months of getting it? If you can afford the bills easily then don’t need insurance.

Stella Street was recorded on the road where I used to live, I felt my rights were most infringed.

Not really my sort of place but I’ve bought a few things from SD which have all been fine – Muddy Fox jacket and some boots. Decathlon is preferable though.

A friend who’s living with a guy who has kids won’t post group pics of them all because they’re not her kids. Shame really.

My (aristocrat) Gran has an oil one which she adores – though moans about the fuel costs. When she moved house she insisted they moved the Aga too.

The plates on top take ages to boil water. I’d far rather have a modern range thing (smeg or whatever) if I cared about having something that looked good.

Is it possible to unblur out houses? If I bought a place where the previous owner had been an ar5e and wanted to blur it out I’d want that corrected.

I deal with ones who specialize in my area, got to know some agents quite well and hope that helps with how they deal with me. Do need to accept though that if you don’t get something you want you’ll likely never hear back – and maybe never from them again.

Dunno about that but my Gran lives in Holyhead and it’s always busy I think.

There’s even talk of needing tunnel:
