I notice he’s only planning to do a few stages, maybe if he doped he could get through the lot?

Comparing him to Millar is not useful, Millar became part of the solution, Lance is still causing trouble.

Those you mention aren’t trackers they are funds

That’s what he saying right? Decent funds beat trackers, that’s my experience too. If I didn’t have much cash maybe I’d go with a tracker as lower risk but I like a bit of risk 🙂

He he, people used to say that on here a few years back, those that listened probably lost a bit:

I’ve got quite a selection…best performing one is Old Mutual UK Smaller Companies- did better in the early years than in recent times – still 106% in last 5 years though.

Spent 2 years as a student there in the early 90s. Spiders for me – my nights always ended with pink milk IIRC.

Some decent pubs about – I used to live by the Mainbrace.

Is the princes quay still OK? Someone told me it was slowly sinking….

Love seeing other people’s ones but would never want one – or anything old really as I like cars to work with minimal effort/expense. So I like nice cars but want to own relatively boring ones.

Your Grandad was what is technically known as a Lucky Bastard.

Well he did lead a rather adventurous life until settling down in his 50s buying a farm on Anglesey spending much time shooting and generally socializing with old money types. So she joined in on all of that and presumably feels she had a better life than she would have done marrying one of the Holyhead ruffians…. They used to own Penrhos and the land around Anglesey Aluminium which some of you will know.

The OP seems to imply that short-term value falls could be a problem so anything riskier than a savings account is probably not appropriate. I invest in funds but any money I want to access quickly stays as cash.

My Grandad was 50 when he married my Gran at 20. He was a fading aristocracy she was bored with the local urchins, stayed together until he died in his early 90s and she says she has no regrets.

The pension rules mean we couldn’t do that now but if they did I’d rather enjoy it now than in old age.

Should get a better return with the right unit trust ISAs IMO.

I’ll switch mine, shouldn’t count as part of annual ISA amounts should it?

Car seat would have to be new, I couldn’t buy one second hand no matter how good it looked, just in case it had been damaged.

Just need to check the polystyrene is intact. I know someone who bought on on Ebay, checked it out to find the polystyrene had been taped back together so returned it. It went straight back on Ebay.

That figure is odd – is it assuming 25% taken tax free and income received on the rest? We don’t have to take annuities now so more likely to do well by investing the capital and living off the income plus a proportion of the capital – so estimate when you’re going to die! If you outlive that date then sell you’re house if you have it still, need to live in a home then anyway I imagine.

I’m useless at remembering birthdays and wedding anniversaries but my Mum gets a card and phone call from me on Mothering Sunday as would be disappointed if she didn’t. I don’t bother with Father’s Day as that’s more of a made up thing – I won’t expect anything from my son as he gets older but for now I get cards he makes at school.

A mate’s house was called Three Ways, possibly I only find that funny because of a line in a Zappa song.

convert – well done but you do seem to have a higher than average income as many couldn’t do that. I don’t pay in regular amount but instead drop in lump sums as suits.

I have 1% pension – apparently it’s only on my lower lever taxed income as they don’t have to do it on the higher taxed income. I don’t really care as I have a SIPP which I put useful amounts of money into.

was in her 90’s. They took her license away, I felt awful.

Wow, I’d have no problem with that, too many old people causing danger on the roads; Was nearly knocked off by an old lady driving on the wrong side of the road as she came up to do a right turn. I feel bad about not reporting her.

Can’t remember the lst time I saw a Cougar, for some reason I always felt my Puma was the better buy. I sold my Puma 4 years ago but still had some spare wheels/tyres in the garage which I finally got rid of on Ebay. Bloke that bought them arrived in a Jag and had the Puma as his 2nd car.

Is it best to use live or dead swans? I suppose using live ones is more environmentally friendly.

I’d do 2 yrs as it’s so much cheaper than 5 esp taking NPV into account.

My wife doesn’t seem to worry about where money goes as I pay all the bills, etc. I’ve now decided that no amount of explaining the cost of things will make any difference so I have said we’re paying half each of everything now so she can feel the pain of it coming out of her hard earned money.

GF is on her second C3 Picasso

Some rate those but I test drove one and hated it – the Roomster I then tried felt so much better that I was sold – plus exactly what I wanted. Decided not buying it for how it looked was a bit silly though I think they look a lot better than many other similar (shortish with good space) cars.

Having had to replace a few windscreens in cars over the years I was wondering how an owner of that expensive car with the £15k one-off windscreen would do if a crack developed.

My two front windows are double glazed white PVC, perfectly functional.

Except that, for reasons I will never fathom, they have this diagonal leading on them.

Same for me but vertical/horizontal lines. Must have cost more but no point to them – the house is a normal looking 50s built one and not some sort of mock tudor thing which might be the reason some do it.

I’ve had to tape the second one up to stop certain people leaving the loft light on for weeks at a time

Loft lights should be high up so only be reachable when up the ladder – or in the loft like mine.

Previous owners extended our house adding a dining room making joining it to the sitting room with double doors. The light switch to the dining room is by these doors but in the sitting room. Best place for my TV is in front of these doors so can’t use them so to turn on the lights to the dining room have to go down the long way around to the switch in the sitting room.

CGT on sale would stop some old people downsizing I imagine, though stamp duty isn’t a good thing anyway IMO as reduces numbers of people moving house.

People with mortgages would benefit from inflation, it’s savers that would have a hard time.

Well interest rates would go up so monthly mortgage payments would increase and savers returns too. So short term pain more of an impact to capital owed for most house owners and savers maybe stay the same overall.

How have you set it up? I have mail forwarded to my Gmail account and when sending mails from Gmail I can select what address the mail is sent from – can be automatically set to the one the mail was sent to. No Gmail cost for that.

I was suspicious from the start because of his poor English (not meaning to discriminate) and realized

Not so common but still OK.
