People do get fined for littering I think?

Maybe just get a team each evening from litterers caught that day to clean up the littered area – too costly?

I’m failing to see the link. If you’re loaded you tend not to drop litter?

Well if you come from a better off background. I live in a Surrey village and don’t notice litter here – or in my parents’ Shropshire town. Maybe it’s a city thing? Do state schools make a big deal about litter?

As a teen I worked in McDonald’s mostly looking after the eating area. The expectation is that people throw away their own rubbish and we’d wipe the tables. Throwing the rubbish is a pretty easy thing to do but so many didn’t.

I wonder if it’s something to do with peoples’ perception of respect – some think it’s beneath them? Seems to me there’s a pretty strong correlation between how well off you are and how likely you are to deal with your litter – for some reason the worse off are more likely to think it’s beneath them, the better off not.

I used to live near Hammersmith and the litter on the main shopping street there at the end of the day was often unbelievable – a lot of council estates around there.

pop that suit on at a party and you become a babe magnet.

Is that because they got you to keep the suit on? Any problems with your helmet?

The Stormtroopers are clones of Jango Fett that were grown at an accelerated rate.

Something went wrong as they’re all pretty average when it comes to fighting.

But that’s at market rate isn’t it? Still seems wrong though.

I’d like to see figures showing the return councils get on their social housing, they get a lower return than the private market?

From what I know about Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Probes I’d say that’s a bit of a bargain.

I use Parkdean at Croyde but they have a fair few other centres

Yeah I been there as well as Trecco Bay in S Wales – both picked for access to decent road riding – not that I tell the wife that.

For those that missed a week or 2 of school each year and think it didn’t harm their education – maybe you could have achieved even more?!

My parents took me out each year until I was 9 and they’d started paying for me to go to Prep school…. 😀

30 and skint, or 60 and loaded

Depends on personal prospects really – though still skint at 30 suggests none I suppose – but plenty of students are still poor at 30…and some may stay that why really! Would be interesting to ask 60 year olds that question.

Don’t you find that out when you say what you want?

Maybe my line of work is easier than some for this as I know roughly what people will have to pay for various relevant roles for me. Having said that I think they always give a salary range to indicate what level of person they want.

Yeah but you might get blown out for being difficult. I don’t think it unreasonable for companies to want to filter out those who’d only join them for a salary above what they’re happy to pay.

Hora caused me problems by talking about his intense orgasms some time ago – I need a Hora filter.

You cal always negotiate again if they do make an offer – based on info gained since you told them your initial requirements. Package, role, whatever. They could offer less than you ask anyway. Have to be willing to walk away in order to negotiate hard if that’s what you want to do – but if the job is good with good prospects then worth compromising.

Depends on res of package really, current job has little beyond salary so was pretty aggressive on what I wanted.

Seems to me there would be more bike riding time here so that’s got to be taken into account.

My wife’s just gone back to 5 days/week job after having a baby a few years ago, we don’t need the money but she wants to work. I’m now planning on retiring early.

Delaying pension makes sense if you have shorter-term priorities – like getting a house, or paying off debt. Not sure why you don’t think delaying contributions until a higher rate tax payer makes sense – perhaps only for those who’s salary will increase rapidly in early years. Getting 40% tax back is nice.

Even as a basic rate tax payer paying into a pension makes sense

Only if not planning to be a higher rate tax payer as would save more tax by waiting – obviously using the money for something else such as ISA or property deposit.

If company putting money in then pension is good at anytime but if a low rate tax payer might want to wait until a higher rate one – if likely. Anyway, I didn’t bother with a pension until paid off mortgage – except for getting the small amount of pension from my company they offered. I did build up my investment ISAs though which can be viewed as an alternative to a pension but flexible in that you can get at the money if needed. Once mortgage paid off I switched to throwing money into my pension in chunks getting the higher rate tax back.

My sister bought a house then had to replace the boiler straight away – over £2k she paid. I had £1200 to put in a new connection to the mains a couple of years ago. Not too bad overall but mine’s a solid 50s house, the older the house the more the bills really. Oh the showers leaking somewhere 🙁

Mole Valley in Surrey, where I am, is obviously a typical Tory area, only existed since 1983 but always blue.

I never understood why people worried about this, it only matters if you want to sell up and rent

What about those unsure how safe their employment is?

If once you had paid off your mortgage you sold up then invested in stocks, or whatever, you could find that the growth on those was enough to cover rent with the benefit of someone else dealing with the property maintenance. It’s a risk but if stock market outperforms property price growth, as is not unlikely, then you’d win. I wouldn’t do this but it could work.

Yes but he can get a return on his capital when invested.

The reason property does so well for people is mostly due to the gearing aspect, decent unit trusts can compete without that.

In the short-term gearing like this can wipe you out – negative equity.

Aren’t Christians meant to be evangelical? No problem with them ‘spreading the word’ surely? Political influence is a different matter.

Don’t bother with pension for the time being – wait until a higher rate tax payer at least but mostly save to get a property if that’s an aim – property is still good value in many parts of the country, interestingly Brooess’s graph seems to show that. Saving v investing is always a difficult decision but max out your ISAs if you can.

£60 to find best policy? Brilliant!

I was told I needed indemnity insurance when selling my last house in case land was contaminated due to a battery factory once nearby. I told the buyer to get it if they wanted it – which they did.

My non metered rate was £600 odd when I moved into my current house 8 years ago. Meant to change to a meter, eventually did and now pay about 2/3 what I did so annoyed I didn’t do sooner. Change was easy except that I initially had a massive bill due to an undiscovered leak. Fortunately once fixed under house insurance they recalculated my bill based on subsequent usage figures. We should all have meters really.

Moving into a SIPP seems pointless at this stage – unless you have high fees now in which case moving to II would be a good move. Main thing is to move into less risky investments as getting close to annuity time, if that’s the aim, and so managing that is key. Maybe your current pensions manage this already?
