The thing that strikes me about the Oxford study, is why if so many folks have already had it are we only now seeing lots of people seriously ill/dying

I’m no scientist, but even I can see the flaw with that theory..

Well you’re no scientist… ;) I work for Imperial so will be loyal to their conclusions….

Over in USA, MIT and other universities clearing out undergraduates, telling them to leave by Tuesday and not expect to be back until Autumn term. Switching all classes to online.

Wonder if/when UK follows, I have a kid at Imperial with two European field trips booked.

I work at Imperial, seem to be planning well and working from home support for for staff who need to self-isolate, not heard about anything on the student side though no cases yet.

Many years ago I used to get emails to my mudshark@hotmail ac from people forgetting to put a number on or whatever. I used to reply telling them but ended up having conversations with some, best one was a lady from Boston, USA who I ended up spending an interesting weekend with.

Had a Roomster, now have a Yet, both manual TSIs. Love the flexible rear seats. Dealt with 2 dealers, both fine. I did have a problem with the turbo actuator on the Yeti which I got a local garage to replace – annoyingly Skoda say you have to replace the whole turbo unit but I sourced an actuator saving good cash.

I just switched from iOS to Android, very happy. Looked at the Samsungs but got a Nokia 9 as far better value and it’s Android One.

Should sound a lot better once sorted out. Us Naim owners get our kit serviced (10 yrs?) at this sort of cost.

I was surprised to find my previous house in West London was in a flood plain when an insurer refused to cover me, seems a lot of people would be covered by that.

I now live on a little hill in Surrey.

I’m back into gym training after years away, I’m fortunate to work at a Uni and use the very well equiped gym at lunchtime and very motivated to use it which I wouldn’t be if having to go once I’d got back home after work. Can be a bit crowded with young ladies though….

a pro body builder told me once that no one can eat enough to keep more than three stone of muscle on, so beyond that it’s roidys.

Nah, I went from a skinny 10 stone to 14 1/2 in my mid 20s and wasn’t chubby and plenty of bigger people than me in the gym – not all doping I’m sure. These days, late 40s, I struggle to put on muscle though, use the very good gym at work (Uni) currently around 12 stone which seems a sensible weight for me now.

even with the vat off and a discount an iPhone 11 makes no sense (for me) i paid £450 for an iPhone 8 and £17 month for 12 gb/unlimited and expect to get 3 years use out of that phone.

Is that because you think it’ll be tired after 3 years or because no more iOS updates? Would you spend an extra £300 for a better iPhone that’ll get updates for 5 years?

I’m looking at replacing my iPhone 5s as it’ll no longer get iOS updates, a shame as mostly does what I need to do with it. Seems to me that only Apple guarantee to keep a model going with updates for a reasonable length of time, I believe with Android only likely to get for 2 years? How much of an issue is this?

I see good value(?) Android phones for around £200 – Moto g7, good ones for around £500 – Samsung S10e and then the iPhones from around £600. So if going for an iPhone 8 then that will be cheaper than the latest ones but will get updates for fewer years than the latest ones so a false economy? Or do we not really need to care about updates? Perhaps security is the only thing to really care about with updates and they pretty secure really?

So the message from Planet X is no problem with the significantly inaccurate detail? Some will buy thinking they’re getting something that costs £50 at full price. They’re just fools for believing what they read then?

Interesting that replies to the FB post on the deal commenting that they are OEM were deleted, surely replying is the honest approach?

I go the 2nd hand route with my son, he’s a bit big for his current one but I put a longer seat post on – a nice Thomson one I had spare :). Got his next bike ready so hopefully big enough for that soon.

Well there was no single dominant go rider which added interest I think but not enough climbing. My fantasy team did well :)

Yes paid for a month then holiday already planned after that so maybe she can get something sorted for her return.  Not a big deal for us financially so wouldn’t think of claiming benefits.

Wouldn’t think about her claiming benefits when I’m working.  Not sure how easy it is for a potential employer to find out but losing a job for poor performance is unlikely to help prospects I’m sure.

Seems to me that the owner will do her role for the moment but will hope to replace her later so redundancy could cause problems with that.

Well told she’s got to go but agreed she would resign and not have to work her notice.  Put in her letter that she was leaving due to the company’s financial situation.

    mudshark

Well she’s now asked to see if redundancy is an option but boss isn’t interested in that.  So I’ve got her to ask for time to deal with the issues raised – the letter says she’s performing fine for most of her role but just mentions certain areas of dissatisfaction so seems harsh to push someone out for that.  Maybe wording is just to standard legal stuff as hels says so maybe there’s a chance to deal with things – would be nice for a bit more time for her to find a new job at least.  They’re not paying her that much so hard to imagine getting a better replacement I think – she’s an accountant so there’s lots about but she puts up with the lower pay as employer has been flexible about hours which helps a lot with our son.

I now hear that the HR lady isn’t in tomorrow so I’ve suggested she try to insist on her presence and also that 1 day notice of this meeting doesn’t give her enough time to prepare.  But yeah she’ll surely have to leave so it’s negotiating an optimal leaving deal that’s the aim – maybe having HR there will help but boss will aim to pay minimum no doubt.

Yeah it’s about the riders but support Sky I suppose.  Used to like Slipstream due to Millar and that’s the only kit I own/ride in.

I’ve had one for 18 months, used to have a Roomster which had a bigger boot especially if have a spare wheel.

It’s a lot cheaper than similar options and the back seats are great for me as I just keep one in for my son and then have loads of space for luggage, inc my bike, on holidays.  I like how it drives too and not bothered about its looks – well it’s prettier than the Roomster….

In work I have a large bowl of cereal and a little muesli for breakfast and lunch.  Outside work I eat what I want, mostly low fat plus weight train and ride.  Lost my winter weight 2 lbs/week last Spring and kinda doing the same this year though riding has only really started getting going in the last few weeks.

Are you sure that the ISA is still free if you have a SIPP?  I don’t think that’s the case anymore.  Pretty sure I pay an annual SIPP fee and a quarterly ISA one.

I moved to them from HL, happy enough but comms is poor if needed.

My pal took his motorhome to Holyhead & said he’d never go back cos it was a shithole.

Yeah but the rest of Holy Island is fine.  Maybe I’m biased as my Grandparents used to own Penrhos – soon to become a holiday resort:

In a different life I used to try to find big burgers to have a go at, biggest was a Sumo Burger with a pound of meat in NYC – http://www.bignicks.nyc/page.php/about/page/31.

Also there was a triple burger from Wendy’s and I vaguely remember a big Big Mac at some point. Also did the shakes – and the US go-large shakes seemed to be served in a bucket.

I’m looking to redo one bathroom and tidy up another – both medium sized. Quote for bigger job was £5.5k with me providing everything. Rather put me off; I’m in Surrey, think I need to get some more quotes….

I’m surprised there are jobs that ask for both experience and a degree, I’ve moved jobs quite a few times and focus is always on what experience I have, would any of them not recruit me if I didn’t have a (good) degree? Can’t see it. Recently started working for a top Uni, think I’ll ask if they care.

I’ll have built up my 35 yrs of NI contributions (according to gov’t website), thanks to various part time jobs in my youth, by the time I’m 55. That might persuade me to stop working then though I’m now working for a top Uni which I’m enjoying and their pension scheme is good. I’ve always invested in the stock market which has done me well though if it crashes badly that’ll upset my retirement options….

I watched the earlier ones online as missed them originally. Faves are:

    A Quiet Night In
    The 12 Days of Christine
    Séance Time
    The Riddle of the Sphinx
And all from the 4th series so far.

Not sure I want to watch The Harrowing again, good but eek….
